There is no higher maintenance for ip, that is not true. You will not be able to run multiple locations on one server (too much data to transfer)..there recording device should be on premises. If for whatever reason you dont want to go with ip, at least have him use ethernet cable with tvi baluns so you dont need to rerun cable if you choose to switch to ip... Also note that the DVR you mentioned is only 4 channel so that is the max camera count. The extra cost for ip for 4 cameras vs TVI is about 300-500, dollars depending on the cameras and NVR/dvr...well worth the extra expense. I might have posted the wrong dvr. But the one I was getting was 8 channels. If its cost me about 300-500 per system. I would be looking at about $1500 more. So the system he offered me can not be good for having alot of locations to use on one app? One app and one server are two different things. You can use one app to view all the dvrs.. If he is installing those cameras and dvr for 500 in each location then its a good deal.

They are rebranded hikvision and very good depending on the type of camera and dvr/nvr....if these are analog cameras then its a bad deal. Ideally you should install ip cameras in a new installation. Most likely what is being installed is TVI cameras that can transmit HD over analog cables...please provide model numbers. EDIT: is see the model numbers in the title..these are TVI cameras....For the price with install its not bad. I would upgrade to IP cameras for future expansion/upgrades.. I asked for IP cameras but he said those are better but is higher maintenance if something goes wrong. Is that true? and I am trying to expand now. and plan on having over 20-200 locations by next few years. I want to have my cameras set up the right ones from now. so would it be wise to go with ip or those are good enough for having over 20+ locations in one server. Looking for home security camera -

I need more than 1 camera... Probably about 3 or 4, one in the front, the back, and inside the house. THanks for your input... I guess my next question is..... Is there a difference or is it just based on your needs between the system saving it in SD card or DVR system? Seems like the wireless ones are saving it in SD card and that seems easier for setup? I"m still reading up on these things so any input is greatly appreciated. Lorex seems to have good reviews so I might get one of their system but when I go their website, there are so much to choose from. I know some of them are for bigger properties and businesses so I'd like to narrow it down... Looking at below. It's a Wireless home monitoring system with 720p cameras "LW491HD"... Seems like a good system for starters, easy setup and good enough to monitor around the house and just right in front of street or driveway. https://www.lorextechnology.com/Home-security-cameras-and-Wireless-home-camera-systems/Home-security-camera-system-with-HD-recording/prod590027.p stay away from wireless, you have to run power to them anyway, you might as well run ethernet and do it right. http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-IP-NVR-with-2TB-HDD%2c-4-1080p-Cameras-with-130'-Night-Vision.product.100153164.html

Dont even consider analog..the resolution is poor...its outdated technology and takes more work to install. With ip you can run a single ethernet cable to the camera. For indoors you can use nice looking cube tabletop cameras.

    DNS server problem

You need a device on your network like you camera or router to be compatible with noip...or use another service that is compatible with one of your devices.

Need advise on what system to get.

Consider a model with stronger IR. look at the exir hikvisions with 50 or 80m rated IR... Also not that most of the hikvision cameras on amazon are china region and if you upgrade the firmware they will brick...

.........this is a two year old thread.

double posting is not going to get you a better response. ADT is junk. Dlink is junk. Start reading the ip/megapixel forum section. Understand the limitation of pixel based motion detection...learn about the camera options.

Need advise on what system to get.

Question is though, will the SD card record at 3mp resolution or scale down. I suspect it will scale down thus making the 3mp a waste of time. I have no experience of recording onto SD cards so just a theory. Why do you suspect it will scale down? It wont. Why theorize? A generally the basic varifolcals are 2.8mm-12mm..its varies depending on how you set it..if you get a 12mm that should be fine as well...it all depends on the distance you mount the camera from the car.
  12. First thing to do is to download onvif device manager from the soundforge website and see if it can pull information from the camera including the proper rtsp stream URL.. This is not going to be plug and play.

Need advise on what system to get.

That is a junk cloud based system...you will not get any good footage. You need to get a camera with a 12mm lens or a varifocal camera that you can precisely adjust. Consider a hikvision 2732F varifocal..or one of these with a 12mm lens http://overseas.hikvision.com/us/Products_accessries_10533_i7584.html Can you please elaborate for me as I am a complete beginner. Does the camera you mentioned record to SD? How can i playback footage? yes, it does record to sd..you need to take the time to read though the ip/megapixel section of the forum and understand the technology and options you have.
  14. The rtsp stream is NOT the wifi stream... Here is my advice to you. Return the cameras. Then, read this and other forums and learn about ip cameras before getting the improper equipment.
  15. Swann camera are selling by Costco and are made by Hikvision. I have 2 Swann model 820 and they are identical to the Hikvision DS-2CD2032. Use the SADP tools from Hikvision and will be able to access your camera. There is a difference between the 820/825 and the 815...costco canada sells some kits with the 815...
  16. This is a spam response. OP, all your questions are already answered on the forum..look at the megapixel forum..
  17. It depends on the software you use..and if you display the cameras on the screen..its a bad idea to use your general purpose pc for NVR..you are better of simply buying a kit with an NVR...
  18. First, do you know if your pc can handle the task? What are the specs? how many cameras do you intend to run?
  19. to the store you purchased them from...
  20. yes, those are not rebranded hikvisions....maybe made by hikvision, who knows..you will need to see if you can find the rtsp stream from those cameras...return them and start over.

    IP Camera Wiring on Cat6

Why are you doing this? to save a few dollars on cable or switch?
  23. What model swann cameras? You dont need any hardware other than a POE switch to power the cameras. Then you can use vms software like blueiris, exacq, milestone to record. If the swann cameras are hikvisions rebrands you should be able to use ivms as well.

Need advise on what system to get.

Is the car going to be parked in the same spot each night? You don’t even need an DVR..just get an IP camera with an SD card slot.
  25. 960h is very poor by today's standards. IF something happens and you need the recording you will want high resolution so you can get a proper ID. POE is the norm for all but the low end junk cameras. Some higher end PTZ's use too much power for poe, but that is a different situation.
