Recommended vendors for buying Hikvision cameras and NVR
Boogieman replied to Alaskan's topic in General Digital Discussion
There is a difference between english firmware and US region. Keep in mind with china region cameras (even with english firmware), that there will be a HUGE issue if the user tries to update the firmware.....the camera will no longer work unless the proper fix is applied. -
PoE ease of installation. Please dont listen to HeightsCCTV....good 8ch NVR's dont cost 1000. ANY half decent ip camera will have POE. Whether or not a camera has an SD card has nothing to do with POE. Someone who suggests replacing ethernet has no business giving advice on this forum There are great cameras from hikvision and dahua - both reputable reliable companies. This lorex system is a rebranded Dahua system and will meet you needs. http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-4-1080p-Cameras.product.100153164.html If you have a bigger budget, this 4mp system is on sale for 1300. It is also a rebranded dahua system. http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-8-4MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100213199.html This is a rebranded hikvision system with 6 cameras - note you need to add your own driver (these hikvision cameras are not compatible with the standard hikvision 2cd-xxxx firmware, they have their own special firmware) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16881183053&cm_re=laview-_-81-183-053-_-Product You can also piece together your own system, just make sure that you buy US region hikvision cameras..many sold on amazon and aliepress are english language but NOT us region and you will have issues with firmware upgrades.

Not sure where you get the 1k for an i7pc...I get dell optiplex 7020 i7-4790 machines from the outlet for under 500 all the time. Last one was 439. With three year next business day warranties. Software VMS gives you way more options than a dedicated NVR...if the user wants basic recording functions and nothing more then a dedicated NVR is probably the way to go...

Are you saying you could view the cameras on wireless connections but not wired? if so its got nothing to do with the dvr as its seen on the network.. Are the wireless devices on cellular networks? Hi no the problem is the router is wired by ethernet cable to dvr but doent show on router says nothings in port 1-4 even tho its plugged into say port 2 ive tried all ports but nothing tried a laptop in all ports and the router fount it straight away its like the ethernet port on back off dvr isnt working properly . So going on tuesday with a spare dvr to test .... just wonderd if there was something on router stopping dvr from showing Cheers for your reply Then, follow topchips advice and make sure the DVR is set to the same subnet as the router..otherwise the router will not detect it.

Hikvisions are great. The new 4mp hiks have much improved night and low light vision. Why did you buy the samsung NVR if you are not going to use samsung cameras?

Did you even read the original question?

Perfect. That is cat5e ethernet, you can and should install IP cameras. Here is a rebranded dahua 4mp system. http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-8-4MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100213199.html

There are ip cameras and then there are cameras that run over coax cable that you are referring to as TVL(because most analong cameras are rated by tvl...Regardless of the cable you want HD cameras that at minimum 720p or 1080p...you dont want low resolution analog like 700tvl or 960h systems. Ip cameras require ethernet cable...post an image of your cable. Even if you have coax there are HD solutions...

FLIR NVR crashing my internet access....
Boogieman replied to pjwinstalls's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You will have to post the network setting page of the NVR and your port forward settings on the router..most likely you have something set inccorectly. -
For starters, with IP there is a wide selection of cameras to chose from. There are options such as the camera itself storing a backup of the video on an sd card. Higher resolutions are possible with IP than hd over coax..if you dont like the options on your NVR you an easily switch to a VMS without having to swap cameras. Tons of VMS options. Most of the time (if the distances are not too long) ip is easier to wire up with POE. If you want audio there are tons of cams with audio connections that dont require running separate audio runs and having a DVR that supports mulichannel audio. If you are working in a particularly difficult environment, you can use a switch to power and transmit data from several cameras and run a single line back to the NVR. As far as a secure system, an IP system is no more susceptible than an HD over coax.

New Zoneminder Build - Looking for Advice
Boogieman replied to 5aq1b's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
so build a pc based system...use ip cameras...forget about zoneminder...buy dahua or hikvsion cameras and use their respective free VMS....if you plan on using those old pc's you listed make sure to check the power consumption as the old units tend to be high...if you are just doing basic recording, just use an NVR. -
Sunny I know from your posts that you know better than that. So PLEASE stop misinforming the poster. These are true HD cameras as you can clearly see from the spec. The nvr and the camera are NOT using mpeg4 but rather h.264. The reason why its the listing has the TVL and mpeg options is simply to let the user choose the type of lens, 2.8 3.6 etc and to allow choosing different options in the NVR like poe and the amount of channels. This is done because ali express does NOT have the option to let the vendor input the lens size. There are NO analog sensors on Dahua cams..the tvl numbers are added by the vendor in lieu of selecting the lens size. The vendor does the same think with hikvision cameras http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-hikvision-3megapixel-3mp-array-30m-IR-Network-Dome-DS-2CD2332-I-support-POE-free-shipping/638300_1396985171.html Do you understand now? You are deliberately misleading the op...these are the LATEST cameras from dahua. You know this and a purposely misinforming. Shame on you. Please stop recommending old analog junk to users. If 80 dollars for a camera is expensive then you are in the wrong line of work. Also please note that sunny works for a company that sells analog cards for pc...analog should not be used on a new install of this type. The only thing the op should confirm is that the NVR can support 4mp..its lists 5mp and 3mp...I am pretty confident that it will record the 4mp..worst case set the camera to 3mp.. Boogieman, I did not realize TVL number goes with recommended lens size. I am not quite familar to such terms in that field. It is quite shame that 4 Mega Pixel can be only represented as 600 TVL. But you seem to sell old IP cameras, as H.264 has been around 10 years. In our term, do not recommend a knife for a Bull to be for a knife for a chick. Every penny counts for all involved. Visit at ubiqmicro to see what I am doing for. Badmop is correct. Its only used as a representation on ALIEXPRESS...its NOT the actual tvl of the camera. Its simply used to select lens size becuase the seller CANNOT have buttons for 2.8, 2.6, 6mm..etc..buy from any other place and you can select the lens size normally. I dont sell anything. Thats the difference between me and you. You have an agenda - to sell analog pc cards. There is no excuse to be installing cheap analog junk in 2015. 1.3mp cameras can be had for 60 dollars that will blow away your junk. Its MUCH easier to install as well since you only have to run a single ethernet cable and you are done. The fact the h.264 has been around for 10 years is irrelevant - its excellent and meets the needs of todays 3-10mp ip cameras. Do you even know how many cameras you would need to saturate a gigabit network? This is a non issue - the fact that you bring it up is again pointing to your deliberate attempt to mislead to drives sales to old outdated gear. Please stop. You can then easily integrate ip the cameras with most VMS software, and not rely on buggy software with minimal features included in your cards. You can also use it with a cheap NVR...So lets take the op for example. He has a solid system for 260. He easily add 7 more cameras. No need for a pc, your junk cards, nothing. Super high resolution. I dont know how you can even look at analog anymore, i get headaches looking at that blurry crap.

moving color banding artifacts in low light
Boogieman replied to shdes's topic in General Digital Discussion
Actually its very normal, many cameras do this when the lighting is not adequate..including the popular 3mp hikvisions. -
Why did you post the same questions 10 times in various sections of the forum? Its incredibly annoying.

REcord Multiple Cameras on Local Mac and Onboard SD cards
Boogieman replied to Conzola's topic in General Digital Discussion
If you are only doing this for two days and want good audio and video..simply use camcorders. The result will be much better than ip cameras. Why is there a need to stream to laptops? -

New Zoneminder Build - Looking for Advice
Boogieman replied to 5aq1b's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I know man. I'm seriously considering it. By HD, I take it you include IP in that as well? There are 12 cameras. Yes. If you can afford it go IP...otherwise there are some cheaper hd over coax options... Here is a good system (made by dahua)..you may not even need 12 cams as these will cover a wider are and produce better images than your current setup... http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-8-4MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100213199.html -
New Zoneminder Build - Looking for Advice
Boogieman replied to 5aq1b's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
How many cameras? Consider investing in some HD cameras....its 2015... -
Okay, I have selected the following: Now in regards to the SD card. I would prefer it to record onto a box, since the location of the camera will be quite hard to reach. I read a little bit, and I understand now: its a network box - allows me to view the video live through an ip or some portal. If that it is, that works very well for me. But some sort of recording is probably still needed. Yes that will work fine...

The camera you selected does not have an sd card slot if you want that...Also, you have to understand what you are ordering.,..600tvl is NOT the image quality...they just use they to select the lens type..choose the 3.6mm lens for a standard install or the image will be too zoomed in...
