Okay. So with this box, which compression format and channel output do I need? I understand that channel output is how many cameras in total, so if I have one - 8ch is more than plenty. But with the compression format - I do not know the difference. I also don't know which camera to buy with this set, I was looking at: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2015-Original-Dahua-IPC-HFW4300R-Z-1080P-gun-waterproof-network-camera-3MP-IR-ip-camera-cctv/638300_32327131317.html Is this a good choice? Now in total I understand; the camera has an ethernet port that goes into the poe injector to power it, from the poe injector it goes into the dvr box - then the dvr box is connected to a monitor. As well, the box is located outdoors, and I would it to record at least around one week, better if it was a month. The compression method is just a way to select if you want 8ch or 16ch with or without built in poe...see the chart in the image... get the 4mp, it has better night image..

You are an ungrateful loser, who got pissed when you were provided with multiple methods of accomplishing your task. You then proceeded to post passive aggressive responses and further took the extra step to PM expressing your disappointment as to my delivery method. For gods sake I posted LINKS for you. Its is very obvious that your are completely incompetent to complete this task. Why anyone tasked you with this project is beyond me.
-
Please dont help this loser. She PM'ed my ranting about how I my responses were not to her liking. I guess she expected us to make a trip out there and install the equipment for free. Quite frankly if I was a parent I would be really concerned about sending my child to that dance school.

If you are covering an entrance you dont need ptz...are you going to sit there and man the camera? If you only need a few days of storage you can get the 4mp dahua (3.6mm lens) and record to SD card. You will need a 20 dollar poe injector to power it. If you want a NVR you can use this http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Dahua-NVR-DH-NVR4208-DH-NVR4216-POE-switch-Plug-Play-8CH-Up-to-2MP-Onvif-Network/638300_32374937737.html

thank you. could you recommend me a dvr box to get with this camera? I also will need cables, from the box to the camera - about 60 foot, could you recommend me all of this? also, I saw in your profile picture a ptz camera, this is it? It looks very nice. I wanted to know what the mount behind the camera is called, since I want to put it on a concrete wall. Understand that that is a low resolution analog ptz-its 2015, no one should be using that. ...what are you using this camera for? You may be much better off with a fixed high definition camera. What is your budget? You can pick up one of these and get MUCH better imagery, record directly to sd card and power and transmit data of a single Ethernet cable http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Dahua-4Mp-IPC-HDBW4421R-AS-IP-camera-network-camera-DH-IPC-HDBW4421R-AS-Support-POE-Micro/638300_32396199848.html

Then you can use IP cameras with a dedicated NVR for the central monitoring and a 40 dollar amazon fire stick at each tv to view independent channels..This is the best and also the cheapest way to handle this. http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-4-1080p-Cameras.product.100153164.html http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-W87CUN-Fire-TV-Stick/dp/B00GDQ0RMG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436996685&sr=8-1&keywords=fire+stick

The cheapest and simplest way to do this is to use a video camera with live hdmi out. The next step is to use HD ip cameras - dont use anything low resolution, it will look terrible and reflect on your business.
-
why are you seeking a subpar solution that will likely cost you more than using ip cameras and result in inferior image quality. Want a simpler solution? Buy a few camcorders with hdmi out..run an hdmi cable to the tv http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Camcorder-Recording-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B00PNWEYB6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436987153&sr=8-1&keywords=camcorder+with+hdmi+output Double check that it can output live video from the hdmi, many can.
-
if you put standard definition cameras in on large screens it will look terrible. You can easily do this with a 1080p IP camera and an amazon fire stick for each TV..cost will be about 150 total for each setup..
-
Before you ask about the dvr, you need to determine the quality you want...this is the first question...
-
First determine the picture quality you want...if you want good quality imagery get an HD cameras...you can use ip cameras and a cheap amazon fire stick at each monitor if you have a good wifi network..

If you purchased on a credit card, many offer and extended warranty with each purchase. Usually an extra year. -
Grandstream gvx3504 problem... incompatible camera type??
Boogieman replied to Boethius's topic in Security Cameras
Those cameras will not work with the gvx..the gvx supports analog cameras but will not support SDI cameras... You can try using the dvr with blue iris instead. I hope you didnt pay 359 for those cameras...it would have been cheaper to pay someone to run ethernet and use a true ip camera.. I installed 4 hikvision cameras. This ez watch company is such a rip off (I did not buy these). It's disheartening to see how they can be in business at all. Thank you so much for your help. Keep in mind, that price might be the going rate for that camera, it doesnt make them a ripoff-even if they charge more than others they can, its a free market...there is a market for SDI cameras....its up to the consumer to do the proper legwork...the hikvisions are a good choice... -

I agree...however, we dont even need the TSA now..they failed at 95 percent of their tests and let explosives on board... http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/01/politics/tsa-failed-undercover-airport-screening-tests/ They failed to identify 73 airport employees with ties to terrorism.. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tsa-fails-identify-73-employees-terror-watch-lists-n371601 They are missing over 1600 TSA badges http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/special-report-bret-baier/blog/2015/05/26/hundreds-tsa-badges-missing-airports This is only the incompetence that we know of...I bet there is much more... What a freaking JOKE of an organization.

the ir filter is likely stuck...try banging the camera to loosen it. Have you checked if you are still under warranty? I believe you can use any sdi camera.. -
Speco DVR-16TL beeping - no display output
Boogieman replied to bosco500's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yes, VGA. I was trying to hook the computer monitor that wasn't working with the DVR to a laptop, but couldn't get the monitor to display. I'm going to wait for the new hard drive and see if it fixes the problem(s). Thanks again. ok, i misunderstood...if the monitor is not displaying after being hooked up to the laptop, the monitor is likely dead...try hooking the monitor up to a desktop pc...or another source to confirm. -
Ownership is not unrestricted - do you know how difficult it is to get a carry permit in NY/NJ?. The problem is not with the law abiding citizen owning a weapon. This has been proven over and over again. The locals with the most restrictive gun laws have the most gun crimes. The problem is with the felons who have access to them - including this POS who murdered those precious worshipers. I urge you to watch some of the armed robberies on youtube - many with machete like knives and tell me that I should not be allowed to own a weapon to protect myself. I happen to no own a firearm, but I believe its my constitutional right to, if I feel the need to protect myself, my family, my fellow citizen or my property. Most of the anti-gun folks tout the virtuosity from the comfort of their picket fence suburban neighborhoods..how dare they. I'm all for gun ownership in the USA where it would now be impossible and unreasonable to withdraw legally held firearms because of the sheer number in criminal hands. That's kind of where I'm coming from when I say that focussing on a flag avoids having to deal with the gun ownership problem - because it's gone too far and cannot be dealt with. It's squarely in the "too difficult box". If I lived there I'd want to own a gun, although I'm not sure whether a non U.S national would be allowed. I would probably own a handgun here too if it were allowed but it's not, and never will be again. I see the logic behind the argument that gun crime is lower in areas where citizens can lawfully carry. It makes total sense to me. I've actually attended machete and gunpoint (not many) robberies over the years here as part of my job, which I won't go into publicly, and I'm thankful that armed crime is so low here that we don't need to to arm the public, or even the vast majority of police officers (yet). Understood. Remember its not about the "need" to arm the public. Gun ownership is a given right just like free speech. I could care less about statistics, when it comes to life and death all I care about is myself and my family. Gun violence can be dealt with easily, its just that the politicians refuse to toughen the penalties for trafficking and carrying an illegal firearm. There is no threat to the public from lawful gun owners. Non-citizens may own firearms https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/federal-firearms-licensees/ffl-tip-sheet-for-non-u.s.-citizens-purchasing-firearms-1

Using old system but want to be able to upgrade in future.
Boogieman replied to spickering's topic in System Design
Thanks Boogieman. You're right about wasting time twice, that's why I was checking to see if I would be wasting time replacing only cameras or if I would also waste time /money running new wire. If ethernet wiring works for legacy and new systems then if I use it now I would only be wasting money on the baluns and the time of physically upgrading the cameras, right? The reason i would like to use this system if I can is that I know a quality system (not the tigerdirect Qsee systems) are expensive and I just don't have the need (or money) for a real system. So, that's where I'm at. Either I install this now with the best possible upgradability or I don't install anything for a few years while I justify the cost and save the money to invest in a good system. I would like 8 cameras minimum. I'm not dead set on this yet, but I want to still consider the options. If I use ethernet with baluns, the power would run via the cat5, right? Or would i still need separate power? Thank you! -Stephen Yes you would only be out your time....to give the best advice I need to know your budget... -
Speco DVR-16TL beeping - no display output
Boogieman replied to bosco500's topic in Digital Video Recorders
It may be a quirk in the dvr that causes the output not to work if the hard drive is dead. When you say serial cable do you mean VGA? the laptop will not accept an input...the vga and hdmi ports on laptops are outputs not inputs.... -
Using old system but want to be able to upgrade in future.
Boogieman replied to spickering's topic in System Design
You will not be able to use the Siamese wire with ip cameras..there is hd over analog but selection is limited. Install your cams with ethernet and baluns at the end..this way you will be able to easily upgrade later..use quality ethernet cable not copper clad aluminum (CCA) which is junk. You forget about wasting your time twice and just buy a decent system now...why regret it later when your image is crap and useless. -
Speco DVR-16TL beeping - no display output
Boogieman replied to bosco500's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Thanks for the suggestion. I removed the HD and rebooted. No beeping and the buttons on the front of the DVR seem to be working. But still no display output. Is this normal with no HD installed, or should I have display on my monitor? Thanks it should display...check the cable, test the monitor... -

remove the drive and test...hard drive failures can make dvrs act strangely. -
Its probably fine..just set wrong. Replace the engineer not the dvr.. If she wants to upgrade, get this...you will be able to use the old cams, and replace some with these much better HD cameras. http://www.costco.com/Lorex-16-Channel-HD-Security-System-Bundles.product.100162999.html
