Need Help Buying Security Camera
Boogieman replied to FreddieHughes's topic in General Digital Discussion
The OP was not asking about dropcam...dropcam does not even make outdoor cameras...he wanted cams with good IR... Regardless, for standard ip cams, the internet service does not affect wireless performance...its internal...wireless should not be used because its unstable.. -

Need help figuring camera systems out...
Boogieman replied to Ellusionz's topic in General Digital Discussion
Dont use your security company for cams..they will be terrible.. While blue iris is great, you most likely wont be able to run it on your home pc...you will need a dedicated pc if you are going to run a bunch of hd cameras and anytime you use a pc for NVR it should be dedicated to the task and not be used as a home pc..if you want basic recording you are better off with a dedicated NVR...if you want to tinker and want lots of options you can look at blue iris.. If you want a plug and play system look at this http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-4-1080p-Cameras.product.100153164.html Its a rebranded dahua...you get costco's unlimited return policy. -

HIkvision DS-2CD2232 VS HIkvision DS-2CD2032
Boogieman replied to noam12n's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just because lots of folks buy something doesnt mean its better...for example, the 2332 turret is a much better camera than the 2032..folks still go to the 2032 to save 4 dollars... The 2232 as others have said have better ir light and will also resist spiders more than the 2032.. -

Dahua 8Channel NVR Plus POE with Dauha PTZMinis 12X
Boogieman replied to videocheez's topic in Digital Video Recorders
you can do it either way as you described...note that if you will not be using the included poe ports you are better off with a non poe NVR, because the models with poe are pretty loud due to fan noise. -

Um... I'd hate to be your kids. What kind of message is this sending. As far as that goes, I can't see any reason to have a camera anywhere inside your own house. (unless you're concerned about your wife or babysitter) .......because he camera here asking for your advice in this subject... -

Not sure about rg59, havent touched that in a long time..but if you use ethernet, NEVER user copper clad aluminum or CCA cable-its brittle and doesnt conduct well..buy from a trusted source not ebay... something like this http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10233&cs_id=1023305&p_id=12728&seq=1&format=2 Not sure if they have cat6 though... if a 1000 foot roll is under 150 then you should be VERY suspicious that its CCA. But dont assume its not CCA just because the price is high...you may be getting ripped off.

Are you using quality cable?
-
You dont need to get an nvr with poe built in to accomplish this..all you need to do is hook the NVR and the cameras up to the same switch...it will have the same effect..traffic does not flow through the router if the devices are on the same switch...also consider simply using a gigabit switch and router with your current setup..no way those cameras will bog down a gigabit network... NVR's with built in poe switches are generally very loud...so consider its location..

720p, 1080p, 3mp....if you are installing cameras for someone else you need to be better educated on this subject.

Newbie Question: HDTVI vs IP Cams?
Boogieman replied to t310483317's topic in General Digital Discussion
Why ...... If you do a dedicated CCTV network then it will be just the same as a analog system .... Until connected remotely .... Same as analog would. Out of all formats ..... Nothing will slow your existing network ... And IP is still infront of all formats +1....zero affect on the network... -
Newbie Question: HDTVI vs IP Cams?
Boogieman replied to t310483317's topic in General Digital Discussion
This statement is absolutely false. If you run your ethernet cable back to the NVR it will in no way affect your network. Furthermore, if you have a gigabit backbone then your never going to affect the network with the typical home cameras... Also you say" in some areas if your network is already slow" the area you live in has zero bearing on your internal network speed. -
sdi is a terrible choice for a new install...limited options, coax, no poe option... If you dont want to worry about a computer just use an NVR with ip cameras.

Hikvision VGA IP Cameras
Boogieman replied to dcam's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Why is it a waste? they dont make the vga cameras because it would cost more to do so as there is little demand...like max said, just pull a substream or 1.3mp stream...these cameras are already way less than half the price that you were paying a few years ago for quality vga cameras. Or just by an older used camera.. -
No public ip problem - how to solve?
Boogieman replied to jolly_82's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
OP has no public ip...thats the point of his post...he is not using a traditional internet provider. -
Not all hikvision cameras have sd card slots...you need to check..they make the same style of cameras with and without card slots... hikvisions has their own vms software that I believe can also access the sd card...the hikvsion mobile app cam also access the sd card .... There is nothing wrong with axis, except that you will be paying 7 times as much....this is a small home system..
-
Forget about wifi...look at hikvision and dahua..each have cameras with built in sd card slots (not all, some cameras)...there are lots of threads on them.
