Newbie Question: HDTVI vs IP Cams?

Did they give you model numbers? Go with the ip system as it will be easier to expand and replace down the line because its wired with ethernet.

Looking For Consultant to help purchase system

DONT TRUST ANYONE TRYING TO SELL YOU THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT... If you are willing to pay an consultant, why not hire a local installer to do the job for you...
  4. The image quality will be poor.....at your 400 budget you could have dont 3 ip cameras with SD card recording or 3 cams with a basic NVR...with HD resolution... Or even dahua HD CVI, HD over analog... The problem with cheap dvrs is not only the quality of the recording but glitches in the firmware, motion detection, and whether it will even record properly..

Night time IR issue after rain

Actual spider webs...get an extendable pole and clean it...
  6. Your research should focus on whether you can use a wireless sensors with an ip camera line hikvision..im pretty sure it can be done if you have an receiver at the camera end...because you can use a wired sensor..or just rely on line cross detection or the pir sensor which are pretty accurate.

Reset DVR password to Factory default

The reset methods are not a security risk...they are widely known algorithms that require you to be present in front of the NVR and cannot be applied remotely...

    Manufactures are PC hacking us

No i dont...i actually recommend hikvision most of the time although i install both... based on your other posts it seems like you are a novice and simply don't understand how these cameras work....please do some more research before you start crying wolf... Keep in mind that analog cams connected via a DVR with internet access have the same concerns... There are security concerns with every camera brand..the firmware is always full of holes...but how is having an additional account any different that the admin account? You make it sound as though you found evidence of some sort of hack when that is not the case at all..there is a ton of info about the additional accounts on this forum or others... Also it always amuses me when folks think someone from a major manufacturer like dahua or hikvision is on these boards...they could care less...in fact they dont want you buying or using their cameras, that is why they only support and warranty cameras sold through authorized distributors, most of whom do not sell to end users..
  9. Dropcam is a total waste of money...300 dollars a year for 30 days of storage is insane.. As far as tabs...there are cameras that can accept external sensors - like the hikvision 2432...not sure if you can use them with wireless sensors though...however, the 2432 has a PIR motion sensor that will help eliminate false alarms. The standard pixel based motion detection has options like "line cross detection" that you can set so that it only triggers if the line is crossed, you can set it to work on both or a single direction (so for example, it wont trigger when leaving)...

    Manufactures are PC hacking us

oh boy, please, please do some research before you post stuff like this - this topic has been discussed many times here...Change the passwords on those accounts... Also remember that they would still need your ip address to access the account...it would be the same for your admin account if you dont change your password...regardless, port forwarding is not secure because all ip camera firmware is susceptible to hacking and the manufactures are slow with patches...use vpn not port forwarding and you wont have this issue... How are they hacking your pc though your camera? although technically possible you dont explain why you believe this is the case...That type of hack would work whether they had your account info or not.. There is no virus on pss software...in your other post you say ispy is infected with a virus, with no basis...what are you using for anti-virus? its giving you a false positive..upload the file to virustotal and you will see..
  11. The link was not for ispy...its a list of rtsp streams for dahua ... there is no virus in the ispy program..if your antivirus flagged it, its a false positive...regardless ispy is a poor choice because they charge monthly for remote access and alerts.. Download smart pss...its on the dahua website...' have you tried viewing your camera in chrome? You can also try downloading the demo version of blue iris and see the feed there http://blueirissoftware.com/download/
  12. smart pss is available as a free download from the website... http://www.ispyconnect.com/man.aspx?n=Dahua
  13. smart pss is available on dahuas website.. vlc will require an rtsp path.. chrome works as well
  14. You are doing something wrong with pss...did you try smart pss? I dont know the string off the top of my head but you should be able to find it with a quick search..
  15. No its not common..you either have a network issue or some other glitch...try streaming it to vlc or dahuas pss software and see if you have the issue..

    foscam f19828p/home guard

What model is the homeguard? it looks like an analog unit..my recommendation is that you return both and do some research before buying...none of those are good brands.. hello . the foscam cost £200 . the home guard is 6514b 4ch dvr 2tb £200 Seems like you purchased an analog DVR...it will not work with the foscam which is an ip camer..you got ripped off on both..return them both and do some research before buying. Do you even need a PTZ camera, you may be better off with two fixed camera...

  18. LTS sells rebranded hikvision products...with a full 3 year warranty...They are great to deal with.
  19. It does have a cut filter...It should pick up 850nm IR...You reference 840..are you sure its not 940? Either your IR filter is stuck, you are not using IR with the proper wavelength or you have a setting wrong keeping the camera in day mode.

How I wish I spoke Chinese

ipcamviewer by robert chou has a can feature that will attempt to identify the dvr..
  21. Are you actually checking the connection from a remote location or via cellular service? if you are checking by using the external ip while connected to your own network your issue is most likely related to nat loopback. This is a very common problem with modem/router combos...test by disabling wifi on your phone and use the cellular network to connect.
  22. I was using PSS and switched to BI as well. I don't think you can beat it for functionality vs price for a residential system but 27 cameras is a BIG residential system. The conventional wisdom has been that BI was too power hungry for big systems without sacrificing frame rate, bit rate, or resolution. Perhaps that has all changed with BI4 and the new fourth generation Intel CPU's. BI4 did not improve cpu consumption, however, 64 bit does allow for many more hd cameras without having memory issues...there are several folks for 20-30+ cams on other forums many on single processor systems....with the weaker processors you do need to sacrifice frame rates.. I have not tested the effects of using in camera motion for the hikvison cameras that can trigger BI...
  23. You learn something new every day. Is that on direct to disk?. What bit rate is that? I've been doing comparisons based on CPU passmark ratings but from what you tell me it appears that there may not be a direct correlation between increase in pass mark score and reduction in CPU usage. My experience seems to indicate that the big user of CPU on Blue Iris is having multiple mega pixels of cameras activated at once, rather than the number of mega pixels hooked up. Yes, it is with direct to disk...recording bumps up the cpu.not too much...higher passmark does lower cpu usage generally but there is more than just the passmark score in play.. Also not displaying the cameras can lower cpu usage further, or you can actually limit the live view to say 5fps but record at 15...though my numbers above are based on displaying at the same frame rate as recording. I have just never been happy with the limitations of ivms/pss and refuse to pay 100 per license for milestone or exacq for basic type installs...(the cheaper 50 dollar licenses have silly limitations like not being able to write to nas or no two way audio)..

Nokia windows phone remote viewing apps?

No one makes windows apps...there are a few wannabe apps but nothing solid exists for windows phone..you can try some of the apps and see if any work..just search the store... start with the ones with the highest reviews...
  25. IVMS and pss both use in camera motion detection, milestone and exacq as well. You wont have a problem with an i7 haswell...If op wants an NVR he can just get a 64ch which will support more bandwidth... As far as blue iris - with that many cams and MP's it needs to be run using direct to disk option...the newer processors are very power efficient, you are looking at about a 50-80w power draw...much less than ANY dual processor server... It all depends on the megapixels and frame rates of the cams...FYI blue iris can do in camera motion detection on axis, mobotix. It also supports in camera motion detection on hikvision cameras that have an alarm output, like the 2432, 2732IS, 2632IS, 2532IS... I have 23MP (8 cameras running) running an i7-4770 at 15fps-20fps displaying all the cameras and only using 17-22 percent cpu...27 cams at 1080p as OP suggested will not be a stretch with a 4790k..though just running ivms would certainly not be a challenge...
