Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?

Because if they're not going to learn how to maintain and service milestone, they will be relying in their vendor. Even though they could use another vendor, they would still be tied to a vendor. Most small businesses don't want their hands tied like this unless necessary. Yes, using an NVR does have limitations, but businesses don't tinker all day with their nvr's or security systems like toys. They set them up, expect them to work, and then go run their business. Except that the OP is competent enough to use milestone just fine...he was having a technical issue that may or may not be related to the pc...there are hundreds of thousnds of pc NVR's running perfectly..there is no need to "tinker" with them after the initial setup unless you want to... I also have seen lots of failed NVR's/DVR's...it all depends on the end users needs.
  2. He is wiring ethernet and using poe...an electrician can wire it all up just fine...its not rocket science....Just use quality solid copper cable...and know the distance limitations of ethernet...

    Selling my house

If you are in the US, it is against the law to record the conversation...some states allow you to record when you are a party to the conversation, but if you are trying to eavesdrop it is not legal.
  4. You are not doing it correctly it works every time. try a different browser...or use hikvisions free vms software... If you dont like the way hikvision handles zoom you can use other software to record, milestone, blue iris etc..

    DVR with 8 Cameras

what you are looking for is an ip camrea system...look at hikvision/dahua or check costco for their ip camera systems from swann and lorex (they are rebranded hivision and dahua)
  7. 27 cams is going to need some serious hardware to record it. You are probably going to need to look at an enterprise grade dual processor server based NVR with an enterprise VMS solution. That's not a setup you do with Blue Iris. You will be looking at a setup which will need a rackmount chassis, a pair of 16 port POE rackmount switches, as well as the hardware in the NVR before you even get to the camera's. $8K wont go all that far. I would be talking to a CCTV professional rather than an electrician who has installed a few consumer grade DIY systems. What you are proposing is well beyond an off the shelf Swann system. Also why so many camera's? Are you trying to cover every square mm of the place? First, you dont need a dual processor server and an enterpise vms to record 27 cameras...it all depends on his recording and analytic needs which he hasnt mentioned. This can easily be accomlished by using a 32 or 64ch NVR from hikvision/dahua. Or with an i7 haswell pc running ivms or pss for free, or exac, milestone for a fee... And if you are going to use a dual processor server, you can absolutely use blue iris for 27 cameras..at 1080p you can even use a single processor high end haswell... A 32 channel swann (hikvision rebrand) if it exists can handle this too..stop making it more complicated than it is...

    What basic card?

Foscam is a low end junk company... That camera is low image quality vga Has crappy motion detection... That camera has no sd card so you will need a pc or nas to record to... It also has a narrower field of view than say a 4mm hikvision... The camera is not poe-you will have to run an additional line for power. Get a decent camera and record to sd card..dont be pennywise and pound foolish. Go to youtube and look up some image from hikvision 3mp cameras..then look at vga footage...its a no brainer. In the UK- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hikvision-DS-2CD2132F-IS-Waterproof-Security-Network/dp/B00UT6WMEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428787133&sr=8-1&keywords=DS-2CD2132f You can also order from china this is a reliable seller http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/FREE-shipping-Hikvision-DS-2CD2132-I-3MP-Outdoor-Network-Mini-Dome-Camera-30M-IR-Digital-HD/638300_1397050451.html

    What basic card?

best bang for your buck with sd card slot will be the 2132F..you must make sure it has the F in the model, that provides for the sd card slot and 3 axis rotation of the lens...

    What basic card?

Well that camera will not record in HD which is something you mentioned in your other post... Nightvision will not work though a window - the ir will bounce off... You are much better off saving you money and buying an HD IP camera that has an SD card slot...you will get MUCH better image quality, it will be more reliable than an old pc, MUCH more power efficient than running and old pc, and the motion detection will be better if you get something like hikvision that has line cross detection... and you can power it and transmit data over a single ethernet cable (if it support poe, which most decent ip cameras do)..

I have a stalker and I need help

I would not recommend this model. The glowing IRs can give the camera away, and since it's battery operated and portable, it could just be taken and there goes your evidence. In some quick searches, I found several models that are better equipped for the task and also have video and timestamping options which will provide further evidence that the police could investigate: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Optics/Cameras/Trail-Cameras-Accessories%7C/pc/104792580/c/104752080/sc/104243580/i/103867380/Wildgame-Innovations-Blade-7X-7MP-Trail-Camera/1829353.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrail-cameras-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100265%2B4294387790%2FNe-4294387790%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Optics/Cameras/Trail-Cameras-Accessories%7C/pc/104792580/c/104752080/sc/104243580/i/103867380/Wildgame-Innovations-Blade-8X-Lightsout-8MP-Trail-Camera/1926490.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrail-cameras-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100265%2B4294387790%2FNe-4294387790%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Optics/Cameras/Trail-Cameras-Accessories%7C/pc/104792580/c/104752080/sc/104243580/i/103867380/Primos174-Truth-Cam-48-HD-Ultra-7MP-Trail-Camera/1846046.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrail-cameras-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100265%2B4294387790%2FNe-4294387790%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Optics/Cameras/Trail-Cameras-Accessories%7C/pc/104792580/c/104752080/sc/104243580/i/103867380/Stealth-Cam-P12-6-MP-Trail-Camera/1816967.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrail-cameras-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100265%2B4294387790%2FNe-4294387790%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU http://www.trailcampro.com/primossuperchargedblackouthdreview.aspx Here's a good faq on cameras too: http://www.trailcampro.com/staffpicks.aspx Not sure why you think that the cameras you listed are any better....they have the same "low glow" ir light..none of them list specifications so its unclear if they are 940nm vs 850...there is not reason for her to spend the extra money.... The one i linked to has "Moon phase, time, date and camera ID stamp" Please read specs before making recommendations. Also consider that the poster is on a limited budget. Its easy to put this camera on a shelf without being noticed...intruders do most often do not even notice cameras particularity one like this that is a non traditional design. Please provide one reason why any of the cameras you listed are better? The no glow 170 dollar primus has issues with close objects being washed out which is an issue here. From a review. "Night pictures have an overwhelming flash. For a no glow camera trap, the flash range is outstanding. We rate it at 60 feet but there are nights it will go further. The downside to this flash is the white-out potential. Anything close will get smothered in white-out and we have also experienced a decent amount of blurry animals when there is movement." A 50 dollar unit will be just fine.

    23awg vs 24awg cat6

I missed that part. Probably because I have terminated everything but patch cords for the last 20 years. Same here...

    23awg vs 24awg cat6

He was looking for premade cable...monoprice has 23awg in bulk cable as well.

    23awg vs 24awg cat6

please dont buy your cable on ebay...you cant trust the sellers..Monoprice is great, as well as "cable matters" on amazon. You will be way better off just making you own cable as it will be much easier to fish. If you dont want to do that, then you are WAY better off buying from monoprice even if it is 24...it will be just fine. At least you know what you are getting...they are within full cat6 specification.

I have a stalker and I need help

Yes this is the camera you need to get based on your posts and was suggested earlier... http://www.amazon.com/Moultrie-Low-Glow-Game-Camera/dp/B00AP311JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428710069&sr=8-1&keywords=wildlife+camera You will also need to get an sd card. http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Speed-Flash-Memory-TS32GSDU1E/dp/B00FB4657C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1428710155&sr=8-2&keywords=32gb+sd+card If you had 1000+ to spend you would have other options. What are you waiting for?

    POE or no POE

You can either reserve the ip address in the router for the camera "dhcp reservation" or assign a static ip address in the camera while using an ip address outside the dhcp range.
  18. That camera is junk as you say...there are much better poe cameras for the same price (just dont have pan tilt and most of the time you dont need it) Please explain what you are trying to do? how is everything setup...
  19. Battery? Thats your problem..did you factor in the attenuation over the long distance? What kind of camera do you have? does it support POE?
  20. what are you currently using to supply power? Are you using quality solid copper cable?
  21. Boogieman

    POE or no POE

The advice you received is good..there is zero benefit in getting the poe built in (it will be louder as well)...there are other issues like direct access to the cameras over the network that is resolved by using a switch...there is no downside except possibly cost...
  22. there is no log for settings...post an image of your stored folder settings...10gb is not very much for the new folder....
  23. This was not the case for me...once I updated them with newer firmware the audio is ok...
  24. BI wont delete recordings unless you have it set to delete in the clips and archiving tab...what are your settings? How many days or GB do you allow it to record before deleting? did you manually check the folders and see if the recorded footage is there?
  25. The hikvision can actually do 20fps at 3mp the 15 is an older spec...
