    Determining Camera Lens

it will say it on the camera near the serial number.. Shoot, camera is mounted outside already That is what made me think of changing the lens to a 2.8 if it is indeed a 4MM because I am not seeing people standing close to the door. I see them walk up, but not standing at the door so they can hide and I cant see them till I look out the peep or try and review a recording real fast before I check the door. if you didnt specify its most likely 4mm...can you angle the lens for a better view?

    Modest system with audio?

hikvision 2532-IS has a built in mic(weak ir though)..hikvision 2732IS, 2632IS, 2132F-IS you need to add your own mic. dahua http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hdw4300c-620.html built in mic - no speaker out, no sd card... Look though the dahua and hikvision sites...

    Samsung system opinions needed

There are two basic ways to get HD video..hd over coax which can use the coax cable used in older systems and transmit video using special cameras and dvr (there are several forms of this technology which are not compatible with each other, cvi, sdi, tvi) or using an IP system where there data is transmitted over ethernet as well as the power (single cable for both)..IP will give you the most flexibility for future expansion and is a bit easier to run the cable.. The hd over coax is a bit cheaper...whatever you do go with an hd system... For example this hd system (only 720p) will still provide double the resolution of the 960h samsung http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-HD-720p-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-10-720p-Cameras.product.100163062.html

You will be better off with an ip system that is 1080p the image quality will be much better...the install will also be easier because you will only need to run a single ethernet cable from the nvr to the camera http://www.costco.com/CatalogSearch?storeId=10301&catalogId=10701&langId=-1&refine=&keyword=ip+camera

I have a stalker and I need help

I was looking at cameras that could do video since that would be irrefutable evidence. That's not bad for the monthly service, but if that doesn't include the camera, then it's going to be too much like you said. That is for a very basic service with like 10 videos a month...the unlimited is at least 100 a month...this type of tech is useful for places like car lots or warehouses where a video will net quick response..not really suitable or viable for home use...

I have a stalker and I need help

First a wildlife camera is only 50 http://www.amazon.com/Moultrie-Low-Glow-Game-Camera/dp/B00AP311JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428357344&sr=8-1&keywords=wildlife+camera Second, I believe the monitoring is about 35 dollars a month for limited basic service (limited video) also you need to pay for the cell service on the sim card - monthly...more importantly the equipment is likely to cost 500-1000...

I have a stalker and I need help

If they can dispatch the police when something is happening and provide video proof--that's solid enough evidence for legal action--which is what the OP needs. There will be a cost to any solution for this problem. It is not likely such a solution will come for free. True, but its simply not an option for someone who cannot afford it...a hired security guard is also a great option but its simply not feasible. Its extremely expensive. A photo/video from a wildlife cam will be sufficient.

Videofied is not a good solution for the OP. Its cool and useful but not in this case. OP says that, she does not have much money.

Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?

You really need to watch your tone. It's obvious you don't know as much as you think and keep pounding your chest like a gorilla rather than providing proper logic to your conclusions. Custom setup comes at a cost of reliability and support. Most small businesses don't want to be anchored to a vendor. Like I said before, if you knew a single thing about small businesses, this wouldn't have to be debated with you. How is using milestone being anchored to a vendor..if anything...using an NVR anchors you to the seller to obtain firmware updates and limits the cameras you can use. Like i said before, if you knew anything about pc/nvr's you would not be making these comments.

Help with NVR to IP Camera

Why do you say this? Is it because of the onvif? because onvif is almost meaningless...no one is properly following the standard...so often you will find that an onvif camera does not work even though the NVR is onvif...and sometimes it will work but the motion detection will not work and you are forced to record 24/7....

Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?

Yes, their work was good. If your reading skills were as sharp as your attitude you would have caught that it was our employees playing on IE that caused the system issues, which are inherent to windows. If you do not know that IE is what most exploits are written for, you definitely don't need to be pushing windows-based dvr/nvrs, and you really need to re-think what you know about security in general. How can there be a non-critical time on a security system that is running 24x7? Do you somehow know when disaster is going to strike? NVR's made need firmware updates, but they will not be for core functionality. Updating the PC OS is part of the core functionality since without it the nvr is no more. One bad update and no more nvr. The spelling is immature, which is exactly what your trolling/bully-wannabe posts following me around have been. It is uncalled for and counter-productive to this thread as well as discussions on this forum, so just stop. I read what your wrote. Why in the world are your employees using IE on a dedicated NVR machine????? No one should be touching it!!! Something is not right here. Are you seriously blaming employee for infecting an NVR machine? How could you even allow something like that? If your installations are mission critical you can have a laptop record your cameras while you reboot a pc...OP is running a small business, you can have non critical downtime, like after hours... But maybe you are right and the thousands of users of avigilon, milestone and exacq are all wrong... With a pc you can build in much more redundancy then you can with an NVR because even a cheap pc server can support dual power supplies and raid..you have to pay through the nose for that on a dedicated NVR. You simply have no clue, and just did a drive by with 50 posts in one day. Furthermore, depending on the setup you NEVER have to update windows if you dont want to and just vpn into the machine.... You are performing a disservice when you discount a very reliable method if implementing NVR recording simply because you had a bad experience which appears to be your employees using an NVR for surfing the net.

Help with NVR to IP Camera

This is what I was suspecting as well, but wired is better since it cannot be jammed using a wifi jammer. You can convert the wired to wireless, but I would not recommend it because of the ability to be jammed. How would I go about converting to wifi? get a tp-link mini router and set it up as a bridge... as far as your other question, foscam is unreliable, and the image is not good compared to a 100 dollar hikvision fixed camera...you generally dont need ptz unless you plan on monitoring it 24/7 or setup some advanced triggering via motion sensors which you are not going to do.

Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?

They did a good job or it wouldn't have even lasted a year. Too many people playing with IE on the system caused it to have issues. If you're having to reboot AT ALL, you have no clue about reliability or uptime in a real security or networking environment. Yes they do, but they are stable. Once you figure out a workaround to a quirk--it works. It doesn't break when a software 'update' breaks it, which can be all too often and unplanned. Diagnosing the original problem is pretty easy, but tedious, and may point to the pc anyways which they are already annoyed with. Replace the pc, and then move to diagnosing the camera. The pc probably won't have the capability to add 3 more cameras anyways, so that's another reason to get rid of the pc. If they didn't want to expand the system, I'd work straight on the camera diagnosis--but that's not the case. a good job lasts a year? Why is IE even involved? I dont think you understood - the reboot is to install updates at non critical times...NVR's sometimes require firmware updates as well... This guy is running a small operation, he can reboot once in a while without any problem [mod - slightly edited because of complaint]

No, they are not...its worthless if you dont know that whether the homeowner has wifi cams or hard wired cams...its easier to wear a mask....you have been watching WAY too much tv. I agree that cameras should be wired but not for the reason you stated.

to use this camera you will have to get a dvr that supports it..why bother with old technology that produces a sub par image...are you really going to sit there and monitor your home? are you using this to watch wildlife?

Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?

That explains it all - you outsourced it - and they did a crap job...You simply have no clue is to what you are talking about....my machines are run smooth and i just reboot them every two months for some updates... The fact that you outsourced it and paid a fortunes speaks volumes about your skill set and technical abilities. Standalone NVR's have their own issues and unless you spend thousands, do not have the capabilities of pc based systems. There is room for both..in fact I even suggested an NVR if the op determined that the pc was the issue and wanted to go that route....my problem with your recommendation is that you made it without determining that the pc was at fault...it may be a switch, router, or the cameras..that kind of "help" is worthless.

    Installation Help

If you dont have any other equipment..return this thing.. buy an IP PTZ camera that is self contained and you wont need any other gear...you are probably paid a fortune for this camera with poor analog image quality....what do you intend to use this camera for? a 500 dollar ip PTZ camera will have much better image quality than this camera. MUCH. The real question is whether you even need ptz for your home?? just get fixed high resolution hd ip cameras.

This is what I was suspecting as well, but wired is better since it cannot be jammed using a wifi jammer. You can convert the wired to wireless, but I would not recommend it because of the ability to be jammed. No one is going around jamming wireless signals-how would they even know if your cameras were wifi or not......wifi is a bad idea simply because its generally prone to random interference and not 100 percent reliable.

Help with NVR to IP Camera

Ah, so that's why it doesn't work. I'll just have to set it up in a different spot. Thanks for your input. Maybe you can answer another question. I have another camera which is not ONVIF compatible, here are the specs, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Foscam-FI9828W-Dome-HD-960P-PTZ-Wired-Wireless-IR-Waterproof-Outdoor-IP-Camera-/231410932946?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item35e12a9cd2 Is there any way I can get this camera to work with my NVR? Any sort of software, or settings? You may or may not get it to work... First foscam is junk. Second, dont rely on onvif...its not a sure thing... Its always best to match the NVR to the cameras...dont just by cameras willy nilly...

Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?

I've had the opposite experience. All our stand-alone dvrs are fine, while PC-based ones failed or started having issues after a year or so before being replaced. I'm sure it wouldn't be much different for a pc-based nvr because all the OS problems and vulnerabilities are still there with windows. Unix-based PC-based nvrs would be a different story, and I don't have any experience with them. Well then you are either 1) running poor hardware 2) running poor software 3) dont know what you are doing.
