Dont mess with wireless...wire it up with ethernet - make sure to use solid copper cable, not cheap copper clad aluminum or CCA..this will give you ability to use good POE cameras... If you can do it yourself, hire a professional to run cable...they do this all day and can run it clean with zero to minimal damage. If you go wifi you will have issues...you gotta run power to the cam anyway..may as well do it right. Ethernet? how long of runs can I use, who sells these Ethernet cameras and systems? wiring thru my walls will be impossible not even from a professional stand point walls were later foam filled for insulation in older house that uses real 2x4s and lots of cross members, I had a plumber one time and electrician that were pulling their hair out before having to tear into the walls...thinking of just running the line down to the basement wall and then drilling it thru the foundation into the basement, guess I could hide the wire under the downspouts running down... IP cameras..that is the standard today..they run over ethernet..POE-power over ethernt..the data and power are supplied over a single ethernet cable...the run can be 100meters - 300+ feet.... You can have longer runs if there is a switch in between or you use an extender..the benefit of network cameras is that you dont have to homerun all the cams...run 4,8,12, cams to a switch then a single ethernet cord to the network connection... Professional wire runners (think phone and pro alarm guys) can run cable no problem... start reading the ip camera forum and learning...

Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?
Boogieman replied to bestfootforward's topic in General Digital Discussion
He is not even sure its the pc...how would replacing it help...the problem needs proper diagnosing not simple replacing parts. PC DVRs can be clunky and are susceptible to all sorts of problems. It's an easy way to prepare for expanding the system and take out a possible current and future problem. That is absolute nonsense...its nvrs that are clunky...pc NVR's run the most complex ip camera setup just fine....you just need to properly set it up...as i pointed out - we dont even know if its the pc at all. I have over 20 pc setups all running super smoothly. -

Tell them to take a dna sample... While wifi battery cameras are generally not recommended for your purpose it will work http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-VueZone-Wire-free-Monitoring-VZSM2200-200NAS/dp/B00IVEHFS2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1428117303&sr=8-3&keywords=netgear+wifi+camera or this is much cheaper but larger http://www.amazon.com/Moultrie-Low-Glow-Game-Camera/dp/B00AP311JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428117309&sr=8-1&keywords=wildlife+camera -
Camera not appearing on LAN / can't assign IP
Boogieman replied to bassguy's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
There are several ways of ding this.... What brand cameras do you have? You need to either change your pc's subnet to match the old ones so you can connect the camera direct to pc (or both to a switch) and then change the cameras....you can temporarily change the routers subnet to match the cams and then log into the cams and change them... Some manufacturers like hikvision have tools like SADP that allow you do easily make the change. -
Noise/static during the day. Perfect at night.

Horrible advice...cvi,sdi is a step backwards..How in the world is cvi "more convenient" how it it anymore on its own system than an NVR...IP give the op the ability to add any ip cameras he wants to add in the future... You are recommending he run all new wiring so that his system is now limited? Please... FYI..last time i checked you can attached a pc nvr or poe switch to a UPS..dont see how cvi is any better in that respect.. OP, check to see that the static ip address for your cameras are either outside the dhcp range of the router or reserved for the specific camera on the router...have you tried unplugging the switch and the router and see what happens? You are obviously not reading what he said. He's been having problems with the current NVR and IP cameras that he has, so much that even the contractor who deals with this system is recommending replacing it with a DEDICATED system. I choose to recommend CVI because of all the systems I have installed, in my opinion is the best bang for the buck for what you get. The newest technologies and the fanciest stuff is not always the way to go in some situations. He already tried IP, and he's not happy, so why spend all that extra $$$ on more IP stuff that may or may not do what he needs, and considering this is an office system, CVI, SDI, running at 1080p (1920*1080) is more than enough, and yes is COAX, but who's to say that he can't use CAT6 with video balums? I did in a couple if installs that we had wired for IP, until the customer saw some CVI systems and opted to go with those instead. Just because he has problems with a bad camera or bad network equipment doesnt mean he needs to step down to cvi. CVI limits the ability to upgrade and camera selection. You make it sound like cvi is trouble free despite your other thread where you cant figure out why you are getting a noisy image. Why is cvi a better choice than a dedicated NVR with ip cameras? no new wiring using poe. What he needs to do is get someone who can diagnose his problem not some subpar tech whos solution to a glitch is to replace the whole system-thats a dumb approach. -
I'm sick of cheap crap, what's next?

Foscam is crap...look at dahua or hikvision ptz...there are US sellers selling these albeit at a premium over direct from china. -

Hotel Video Surveillance Recommendation(1080p, BNC, 20 cams)
Boogieman replied to kinkachou's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Look at a dahua CVI Tribrid NVR..you will need to bump your budget... -
you really need to post model numbers when asking questions. Swann sells ip kits thats are hikvision rebrands as well as analog kits...
-
Your mate has no idea what he is talking about (i would not trust him for further advice).....If you are on a super budget and MUST have 4 cameras look at dahua CVI technology, it runs over coax but is hd 720p or 1080p....if your primary concern is watching your car, and your budget is limited, then my recommendation is a single camera with sd card slot and record to the card...look at the hikvision 2132F-IS...it must be designated F- for it to have sd card and 3 axis rotation http://www.hikvision.com/europe/Products_show.asp?id=9893 or the hikvision 2732f varifocal... OR something like this http://www.hikvision.com/UploadFile/image/2014101311390770075.pdf Look, when you get your system, you will see what im talking about...you will want to return it asap
-
yes it will..dont waste your time...look for an ip system that is at minimum 720p, 1080p is better..an ip system with POE will allow you to run a single ethernet cable to both power and transmit data from the camera.
-
1) the ir is reflecting off the plate 2) the camera is poor resolution so even without the reflection there is no way to magically add pixels and get the plate. Forget it...it is a waste of your time...
-
The problem with the plate is not a focus issue...there is no way to fix that - the data is not there.
-
These are junk analog cameras with poor image quality...consider going with an HD IP system..its easier to install and will give you MUCH better image quality... You are better off with a single 2MP hd camera than those cams if you want to capture someone messing with your car...dont waste your time with this.. check out the megapixel sectiom
-
if you want to also be able to access the cameras then you need to change the password..and you should also change the dynamic dns address to something else...you may need to pay someone to do this for you.
-
Like numb said, just unplug that wire and you are done...this is only ONE such wire going to your dvr...whats the problem?

Need help from the experts - camera to monitor horse birth

you can add ir light... yes you need to add your own mic...the hikvision will accept a line level and a mic level audio source... -

yes, if its just for a few months you can get away with a foscam...they have 3x optical zoom indoor models...I would never use that junk for a long term install, but for your case it may be the way to go... Another alternative is a hikvision 2432 3mp cube, it fixed so no pan tilt..but you can digitally zoom in..good luck -

Hikvision DS-2DE4582-AE http://www.hikvision.com/europe/Products_show.asp?id=9661 can be had for 500 from a US seller...google it, this website wont allow mentioning names... only 4x optical zoom, but its nice because unlike the 12/20/30x high zoom cameras this one has a wide field of view when fully zoomed out so you can see the entire barn... It has an sd card slot and you can record to it without an NVR.. Run a single ethenet cable to it and use a poe+ injector (this needs poe+ not standard poe)... -
Even with ir cut they are going to look pretty bad...who really cares about color when you cant get a clear image....you might want to save the money that you are going to spend on more expensive analog cams and put it towards a future purchase of HD cams..

dahua cvi cameras are cheaper than £60 GBP unless its 60 for all the cameras together??
