Need help from the experts - camera to monitor horse birth
Boogieman replied to SomeNewGuy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
budget? -
I dont know what the prices are in your area but for that kind of money it seams you can get ip cameras, or if you dont want to rerun cable, get dahua CVI that will give you HD over coax and will be miles better than the cameras you have...you will need a cvi dvr...

You can add drives if there is room or install larger drives if the units support them... Also some versions support esata/usb external drives...call them and get details on the maximum storage limits..

HD camera (with IR) that can be turned off remotely?
Boogieman replied to edwardh's topic in Security Cameras
Hook the cameras that you want to turn off to a poe switch...hook that switch up to a remote controlled outlet. Done. If you want to use a low power pc without paying an arm and a leg for licensing ..stick with one camera brand like hikvision or dahua and use their software. Another option is to use something like blue iris that allows you to automatically enable and disable any/all cams based on your phones location-home or away...its also very easy to manually disable only the indoor cameras by changing to another profile-they cameras will be on but they will not record - you can even set them not to display on the screen while inactive...you will need a more powerful pc though... -
HD camera (with IR) that can be turned off remotely?
Boogieman replied to edwardh's topic in Security Cameras
You can set any camera to a static ip..you can use a managed switch to turn the camera on and off..why do you want to do this? Forget about ispy unless you dont care about a monthly fee for remote viewing and alerts + limited number of alerts. -
Its a 16ch NVR..with 8 built in poe ports and a poe switch that can power 8 additional cameras...the benefit of not having all the lan ports on the nvr is that you can place this switch anywhere in the install and run a single cable back to the NVR-or a network connection.. The same system with 9 cameras is available here http://www.costco.com/Lorex-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-9-1080p-Cameras.product.100153135.html Costco has the ultimate return policy...

Just giving a heads up. According to some of the reviews, only 8 of the 16 ethernet ports are powered (POE). The rest are just LAN ports. So if you want to add additional cameras, you also have to run power to them. That is incorrect, the lan ports on the NVR AND on the switch are poe...

Sample maintenance contract / topics
Boogieman replied to dave1983's topic in General Digital Discussion
Yes, the cameras are mounted at least 10ft high, and some about 16ft. I wouldn't expect the customer to clean them. I have seen spider webs in all installations so far (only visible at night). Those were examples for a customer to understand, I understand that maintenance entails a lot more than just cleaning and adjusting. I just want to hear from experienced installers like yourself what is that you sell in such contracts and what it's covered. If there is a spider problem, 2-4 times per year is not going to help....she will be better off with one of these http://www.amazon.com/Evriholder-HR-STD-Hi-Reach-Cleaning-Extension/dp/B000ICRLHK/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1427160979&sr=1-2&keywords=extension+cleaning+kit If you are not offering a warranty repair with that contract, you are basically selling a cleaning service -

Cleaning? Adjustments? what are you talking about? Does she not own a soft cloth? are the cameras mounted really high? -
Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?
Boogieman replied to bestfootforward's topic in General Digital Discussion
Horrible advice...cvi,sdi is a step backwards..How in the world is cvi "more convenient" how it it anymore on its own system than an NVR...IP give the op the ability to add any ip cameras he wants to add in the future... You are recommending he run all new wiring so that his system is now limited? Please... FYI..last time i checked you can attached a pc nvr or poe switch to a UPS..dont see how cvi is any better in that respect.. OP, check to see that the static ip address for your cameras are either outside the dhcp range of the router or reserved for the specific camera on the router...have you tried unplugging the switch and the router and see what happens? -
Advice on using repeater for NLOS wireless CCTV camera
Boogieman replied to Quasar's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Dont mess with wireless. Have you actually tested the cable and determined that its not working? It may be the camera, dvr, or power supply. -
Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?
Boogieman replied to bestfootforward's topic in General Digital Discussion
the best way to test it is to pull it off the wall and connect it direct to the poe switch via a short patch cable....you may also want to swap ports on the poe switch and see if the problem follows the camera or the port... -
The qsee system is not made by them..its a rebranded dahua...same with swann, their ip systems are rebranded hikvision...if there is any issue you can return the system, even years later..Dont see how a clover system has any relation to dahua..yes costo sells junk analog systems too, you need to know what you are buying.. You dont mention what your budget is? That is a very important factor..if its the 3k that you were quoted, then you are looking at a system from hikvision or dahua...there are some us resellers of hikvision that carry the 2mp 1080p versions of their cameras..however this forum wont let me post any names.. Most systems can do 1080p at 30fps, but you dont need that frame rate..15fps will be way more than enough..

If the cameras come back pk each time...try killing power to the pc and see what happens.... -

There is a good chance its the cameras...check to see that they have the latest firmware. You can test it by manually cutting power to the switch, then testing the cams that dont come back... -
Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?
Boogieman replied to bestfootforward's topic in General Digital Discussion
When the camera is down in milestone can you access the cameras web browser directly? Dedicated NVR's while generally more stable have less options...I dont use milestone on a regular basis, but im sure there is a setting that allows you to receive an alert when a camera goes down...have you checked with milestone support about this issue? What version of milestone are you running? -
Should I replace my existing office CCTV system?
Boogieman replied to bestfootforward's topic in General Digital Discussion
Run away from this contractor...if they cannot get milestone working they dont know what they are doing...the "different technology" is probably cvi, sdi or tvI, which is analog over coax..its a step backwards...they will have to rerun cable, and it will be difficult to upgrade. If you want to use a standalone NVR, vivotek makes some...you can then just add the additional cameras you need... How much is he quoting you for this "new" system? -
You would need an SDI dvr for it to work...
-
Tell them to take their 700tvl analog system and shove it...While there are new technologies that allow HD over coax (CVI, TVI, SDI) if you are building a new system, go with ipcameras... 720p ip cameras will generally have better night vision than 3mp versions of the same camera... If you want no hassle plug and play looks that this 1080p system http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-9-1080p-Cameras.product.100123665.html its a rebranded dahua... You can build you own systems as well, lots of posts about dahua and hikvision cams which will give you good bang for your buck...if you want warranty and support buy from a reliable US vendor...otherwise you can buy direct from china but understand what you are buying and be prepared to know what you are doing.

I need to install a camera a distance of 155m
Boogieman replied to faxtastic's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You can run ip cameras over coax...regardless, if your cat6 is affected by wind then its either improperly installed or its bad cable... -
I need to install a camera a distance of 155m
Boogieman replied to faxtastic's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
stop with the analog already...its dead...if the user wanted analog they would not have a question about 155m... There are many ways of doing this, 1)you can run fiber 2)if there is an area in between the run that you can add a switch then do that. 3)there are lan/poe extenders like this Veracity VOR-ORM OUTREACH Max LAN & POE Extender https://www.123securityproducts.com/vor-orm.html?gclid=CjwKEAjw56moBRD8_4-AgoOqhV4SJADWWVCcsvMXTjKh1jmuI70JUcjxVWPZy5v3xuHe8sgaxb_0jhoCH1jw_wcB 4) or poe over coax http://www.veracityglobal.com/products/ethernet-over-coax-devices/highwire-poe.aspx -

Because its foscam and its junk..lower you frame rate and see if it helps..better yet..if you can still return it, send it back. -
IP over a Cell Conection
Boogieman replied to NCPI's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
in theory you can use an app like skype...and just set it to connect automatically when you call it - if that is possible..but the downsides as you explain make it practically useless you build it into a clock radio or something then put a charger in there and plug it in.. -
Question? Upgrading Harbor freight Bunker Hill Security
Boogieman replied to mrangel101's topic in System Design
You are not going to get 100m of night vision 100-150...provide some more details of the area and what you are trying to capture... You will need to upgrade your entire system..look at the ip camera forum section -
IP over a Cell Conection
Boogieman replied to NCPI's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You dont give any detail...how big the device can be...how you plan on powering it...how long it needs to last...most importantly what is your budget...its not as simple as you make it sound... particularly the part about watching it anywhere live..also consider that what you what to do is most likely illegal..
