  1. Yes, I thought of that. One thing is if I use a separate IR illuminator the camera still needs to be in IR mode. Is there a way to have the camera in IR mode but with the IR lamp off so it doesn't illuminate the floaters yes
  2. Here's a link to a short (~5mb) video of the issue. Watch the wall between the pictures. http://gofile.me/2fscZ/uSzcCELa Its a dust particle or something...lots of videos like this mostly outside...this is an issue with every IR camera on the market...storage is cheap..so live with it, or tweak your sensitivity or area of motion detection...It is not a defect with the camera.
  3. Yeah that is from dust or a bug flying by..welcome to the world of pixel based motion detection...you may want to lower the sensitivity or area covered by the motion detection...
  4. There are lots of posts online on how to wire it up...google..
  5. Forget about foscam...whats the point of triggering a crappy camera? there are lots of other bullet/dome cameras by hikvision dahua for the same price as the foscam with alarm in/out. Just make sure to get a model with alarm inputs (not all have them)

    cctv mobile view

You need to port forward or setup vpn....otherwise it will NOT work.

    Single IP Camera with NVR

So buy the NVR. then also record to sd card and you will have a backup....
  8. The web interface "http" is not the same as the media port 8000... if you changed the http port you need to log into your camera differentlly ipaddres:port so for you 192.168.1.250:7400 In the future you dont need to change the http port...you can just use external port 7400 to internal port 80.. In fact if you are using the hikvision app you only need to port forward the media port 8000...

    Single IP Camera with NVR

I want to have 24/7 recording. There is no need for that for your purpose..thats the beauty of motion detection... If you insist...buy a small hikvision NVR like this...DS-7104NI

    Single IP Camera with NVR

The camera in your photo is a hikvision 2632 that has varifocal and sd card slot...you can record directly to the card..set up motion and a 32gig card easily last a week or more.
  11. I believe Loria thinks that neighbor is a member of this site....may God have mercy on her soul...This is what happens when folks dont take their meds..
  12. Oh god, enough of this already...you computer could be loaded full of malicous code but if your DVR/NVR is NOT CONNECTED to the network your computer cannot magically communicate with it...stop playing this board for a group of fools...you've trolled enough..

Would a larger hard drive live longer?

I don't see any reason to use SSDs for surveillance. Until SSD prices really drop HDDs are the way to go, unless you really, really, really need the best. I'm still not sure what is so great with SSDs. I have two (older ones). Neither gave me greased lightening speed improvement. One is a 60gig OCZ Vertex Plus SATA II. I installed Windows three times and three times after a few weeks the blue screen of death welcomed me. The drive now just sits, maybe one day I'll use it for something. The second I bought a few months later (A cheap 62gig ADATA) drive. It's never failed. Both of those SSDs only are slightly faster than the 320gig WD Scorpio drive that came with the laptop. I wonder what would be better (or easier) for data recovery, a failed HDD or SDD. For NVR/DVR use there is no benefit..but for use as an OS drive there is a HUGE difference. Boot times are cut to 20 seconds, programs launch instantly and the whole pc is fast...I install ssd's in every office and home pc... in fact i would rather use a core2duo with an ssd that an i7 haswell with a traditional drive for office use... The problem with your OCZ is that you went cheap...OCZ is junk....they have really high failure rates... i only use intel, samsung and crucial and have never had a failure...an ssd is the single best upgrade you can make to a pc in terms if direct speed increase results...The difference is VERY noticeable to the point where using traditional drives drives me crazy...
  14. That's what I said. Get a court order to protect the areas where you would expect privacy such as behind the fence. you are missing the point..if the area is visible from the street or for that matter a camera mounted on the street there is no expectation of privacy...I can point a camera on my house that gets my neighbors yard behind his fence...if the camera sees what the human eye can see then its no problem... You make it sound easy to get a court order...will probably cost you 15k in attorney fees and most likely yield no court order.
  15. If you did have a custom dome made you would need to shut off the ir light...
  16. Thanks for the reply.. we actually didn't want to view direct. It was because it was easier to run all the network cables to the garage for all cameras and just run one network cable to where the NVR is, in the livingroom of the house. I didn't want 8 cables running to the NVR just for esthetic reasons (since we ran the cable on the outside of the house) We have standalone POE switch in the garage. you can absolutely do this with your NVR..you can enter the ip address manually. This is one of the biggest benefits of using ip systems..you dont need to homerun everything.
  17. You have it backwards...850 is the standard IR that glows red and is visible by most cameras that are sensitive to IR light...940 is the one that does not glow but its range is much shorter...
  18. When we buy on ali express we assume no warranty. I can buy from local suppliers for a bit over 100 with 3 year warranties (the 2mp bullets from LTS are 99 when on sale). You dont have a warranty from you place either as sending back to china is prohibitvlly expensive thats why there is "no warranty http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2013-Hikvision-Original-infrared-gun-waterproof-network-camera-DS-2CD2032-I-3MP-IR-ip-camera-support/638300_1397052584.html There you go... Heck i can buy 8 cams and an NVR from costco today for 1300...thats not even a sale price. http://www.costco.com/Swann-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-8-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100146087.html 3 year warranty from swann, ANYTHING goes wrong or i just dont like it even 10 years down the line i can pack it up and bring it back. Every single time is see folks tout some obscure brand, they always come back with issues....its expensive to be cheap. There are hundres of posts by folks using hikvision and dahua reliably..if you dont see them then your arent looking.

    Aesthetics in Camera Placement

No ladder. I'm probably going get an assistant to help with the actual install (drilling through stucco, running wire in attic & wall, etc). But, depending on the experience of the installer, I wanted to make sure the exterior placement was expertly placed - getting as much coverage as possible without being an eyesore. I understand that these cameras only have a 59 degree view angle. If you havent installed the cameras yet, consider going with an ip system. Will be easier to run a single ethernet cable..You will be able to easily get cams with 70-98 degree viewing angles with MUCH MUCH better resolution than the system you are considering.
  20. My original post also states that these cameras come with software, IOS and Android apps. So your only complaint seems to be that Dahua or Hikvision offer twice the warranty and we all know that's not the case. If you buy cameras online you are stuck with the service from the seller. No warranty will be provided to you by Dahua or Hikvision. And, honestly, if a camera lasts a year, it's almost certainly going to last two, three, or even five years. If one in ten break that rule then you pay enough for 5 additional cameras to buy ten in order to get the additional warranty to cover that one-in-ten exception. The numbers don't add up. These are more expensive than hikvision or dahua 3mp cams...why would i buy them?? I can get a 2032 for 85 shipped.
  21. We are not saying that its hikvision dahua or nothing..but at the same exact price why risk it-they are know to be very reliable....dahua pss and hikvisions ivms are probably better than the uc2 software as well, but i never tried it. Often these cheap no name vendors cut corners like overdriving the leds (something that will not be noticed until a year in)...it also looks like they are not using an IR corrected lens..you night image is blurry (not grainy but blurry)...its hard to see because of the poor mounting angle of the cameras, but you can see it on the vehicle rims. In one post you knock costco systems which if chosen correctly are great and in another you advocate bottom barrel stuff like the mini NVR and these untested cams... Why in the world should someone by this cam when there a proven alternatives at the same price...and dont kid yourself, hikvision and dahua did not lower prices because of these cams..its the competition between the big boys and the costs of technology thats driving the prices.
  22. I dont know where you got your estimates..but there should be a significant cost reduction by installing in open walls..rather than fishing through closed walls...
  23. You should be able to just manually enter the ip address of the cameras into the NVR.
  24. Dropcam is a camera with a built in tax for those who dont want to deal with technology...99 per year is only for 7 days of storage..if you take a vacation for longer than that its worthless...the charge 300 per year for 30 days of storage..each additional camera is 150 per year...the cameras are not great and they do not offer outdoor cams...You cannot live monitor the cameras 24/7 on a monitor either unless you have no bandwidth limitations... It should not even be a consideration...
  25. Thanks so much for all the help. But we have decided to wait until we've moved into the house to rig the surveillance system. If your house is being built and the walls are open, it is very foolish to wait...run the cable now..
