New member trying to find a CCTV solution

Magnetic sensors do not need to sound an alarm, they can do anything you want them to do, turn a small indicator lamp on and off etc...regardless, it seems like you want a camera...quite frankly you are under budget for this and it cannot be done reliably with your budget. -

There is no connection between this forum and malware. A magnetic sensor will tell you whether the gate is open or closed..just like your alarm system detects whether a door is opened or closed. That link was for illustrative purposes use google to find the product near you or something similar. You will not get IR light to go 100m coming from a camera...also you will no need a serious zoom lens to get that far a view...You will need to run cable to get the camera closer or just use a sensor... Again the camera is a poor choice for your situation. You are better off with a device that will alert you without you having to go check. -

There are many ways to do this with a camera but its overkill for your application..You could just use a magnetic sensor at the gate...if you want something more advanced try this http://www.amazon.com/GoGogate-02W-Control-Garage-Opener-Smartphone/dp/B00MOJXF16/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1410458344&sr=8-8&keywords=gogogate you can check from your phone and even get alerts if its left open for too long. -
You need to compare apples to apples. I dont care how good the installer is the 960h system will not produce as good as a picture as a 1.3mp camera...it cant. This is assuming the cameras are both good quality cams. The only installers who say look at analog are those that make more money installing analog or dont have the skill to install ip. Most also run rg59 which makes it more costly to upgrade in the future...

need a little help with selecting a system for my house
Boogieman replied to sbettencourt's topic in Security Cameras
Note, some dome cameras cannot be mounted on a wall, only on an even horizontal surface (unless using a large mount)...For wall mount you need a 3 axis dome. Domes also pose more of a problem with IR reflection. Bullets are not as good looking and also less vandal resistant. Bullets are much easier to aim. You may want to look at a turret like this http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/Products_show.asp?id=9125 No ir reflection, you can mount it anywhere you want. 2.8 will be a wider view but less detail than 4mm... -

You can upload to a remote ftp server if you wanted...but realistically no one is looking all over your house for your network drive...just set up a network drive in a remote room or in a closet and you are done..cloud its just bogs down your connection...You can also get a cheap hikvision NVR for a couple hundred and hide that and set it to record 24/7 as a backup if you really wanted. Burglars dont spend an hour in your house looking for NVR's... -
Can you convert an IP POE Camera into Wifi?
Boogieman replied to wuneyewilly's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You can use any device that functions as a bridge...http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR702N-Wireless-Repeater-150Mpbs/dp/B007PTCFFW/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1413846796&sr=1-4&keywords=tplink+mini You can also use a power line adapter... They will not have poe use an injector http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PoE150S-Gigabit-Injector-compliant/dp/B001PS9E5I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1413846873&sr=1-1&keywords=poe+injector ...although i believe i saw a poe powerline device mentioned around the forums... -

New to Ip cameras What do i need
Boogieman replied to jpatz18's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Which camera are you looking at, what nvr are you looking at?...most good cameras support POE. Some do not. You should get cameras that support poe. Tell us which cams and how many and we can recommend a poe switch. Do not get no name crappy cameras or you will just be back complaining of problems.. -
If you are not technical get someone to do it. Do not let them install an analog system. Make sure the system is IP and at least 1.3mp a camera.

WARNING: you need to remove your ip address from this your post or else anyone can log into your system. Even if you didnt post your ip address, there are tons of folks who use scan the net for unsecure connections like yours. Understand that IP cameras are not secure your password is almost meaningless. You need to be using a VPN. You dlink is on port 80 (that is the default port when no port is added to the ip address) You need to put the other system on another port, say 8585. Then when you login you would use your ipaddress:8585 (ex. 132.123.23.123:8585)

Boogieman replied to rk899's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I agree, as stated in the OP I am not planning on purchasing Foscam or Dropcam. I am leaning towards Axis M1054 cameras but also looking at Hikvision & Dahua. Would love to hear from people who have had hands on experience with both. .. Hikvision has a comparable 2432 cube camera, that is 3mp vs the 720p on the 1054. The hikvision also has and sd card slot which the axis does not have. The axis uses a white led for nightvision, when it detects motion the led illuminates vs IR on the hikvision...there are pros and cons to both... The 1054 also does not support wireless..although i would not run the hikvision on wifi either if you want to use full resolution. Finally the hikvision can be had for 1/3 the price of the axis...its a no brainer... -

Are you searching this forum? Or google..look through the posts here. Forget about dropcam unless you want a very basic camera and monthly fees....a camera with a dummy tax built in. -

Boogieman replied to rk899's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Dropcam is a monthly service and you are locked into their system. Foscam is junk, dont even consider it. If you want something decent at reasonable prices look at the hikvision or dahua 3mp cameras...Hikvision and dahua are also rebranded at costco as swann and qsee respectively. There are tons of posts on these cams and systems...start reading... -
Another What camera PTZ?? to choose thread :-)
Boogieman replied to steve26's topic in Security Cameras
The first camera linked by dan732 is not an ip camera...just fyi...I agree that you should be looking for ip cameras. Dahua has some nice 2mp ip cameras in the 600 dollar range. Dahua SD59212S-HN 12x Zoom http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/sd59212s220s230s-hn-581.html Also, ask yourself do you really need ptz? are you going to set up sensors to ptz upon movement? Why not get two fixed cameras instead? What are you going to be monitoring? Whatever you do, if this is a new system, you should be using an IP camera that is at the very least 1.3mp...not any analog stuff that is generally rated using TVL... -
How to decide which camera style you need?
Boogieman replied to slimcubby's topic in Security Cameras
ok, stop, and start reading this and other forums first. Your first decision needs to be what type of system. If you dont know the difference between PoE, BNC, Analog and DVR styles you will end up with wasting money. If this is a new install your best bet is an IP system. You cannot just mix and match ip cameras and NVRS across brands it doesnt work that way. You will need to determine if you will use a standalone NVR or a PC based NVR (this will allow you to use various brands but is more technically complex)... You may be better of with an IP system from costco (not analog or SDI, but IP) -
What software are you using???

Can I use caox for a new digital system?
Boogieman replied to doo600's topic in General Digital Discussion
when you say digital do you mean ip? You want to use your old rg59 cable to connect ip cameras? if so there are converters but they are expensive and you are most certainly guaranteed to gave problems.... You have two choices, use SDI, hdcvi, cameras that can capture 1080p over coax, however, your selection will be limited. A better option is to pay a professional to run cat6...a pro can run cable where you think its not possible. This will be cheaper in the long run... -
None of those systems are worth your time. Those are analog. You should be using ip cameras. You cannot get a system with high quality cameras for 800. Here are some decent all in one systems...and since they are from costco you can return them easy if you dont like them. http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-9-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100123648.html http://www.costco.com/Q-See-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-6-1080p-Cameras.product.100129001.html Or build you own... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2013-Hikvision-Original-infrared-gun-waterproof-network-camera-DS-2CD2032-I-3MP-IR-ip-camera-support/1397052584.html http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2014-Hikvision-NVR-16CH-Plug-Play-8CH-PoE-Up-to-5MP-Onvif-Family-level-Network-video/638300_2052108539.html

wireless outdoor ip camera
Boogieman replied to extrabigjon's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
since you need to run power as mentioned you are way better off with a poe camera. You just need to run a single thin Ethernet cable from your poe switch or injector to the camera and you wont have to worry about signal strength... Another option -
Lorex - IP HD Camera disconnects randomly for no reason
Boogieman replied to riniboo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you bought your system from costco just take it back.. you can always put you nvr on a time to reboot once a week... The problem is certainly not hikvision, I have hikvision and dahua cams running 24/7 with no issues. -
