    NVR Location...in attic?

Its most likely going to get way to hot up there. Hide it behind your desk....
  3. Here is the deal...its really simple....if you don't buy from an authorized seller you don't get support. Therefore you need to make a decision at the time of purchase ...do I save a few dollars and forgo support (other than what the seller offers) or spend more and get support. This is not uncommon with security cameras as well as many other products....

I'm overwhelmed with all of the choices

don't waste your time with wireless..it will not be stable. You need to run cable. Get an IP camera system with power of Ethernet (poe) Most are, this way run one cable to each cam. You can place the NVR anywhere and just run a cable from the nvr to your router. Hire someone to run the cable if you cannot do it yourself. It will be cheaper than spending money on wifi extenders and hours of your time trying to figure out why its not working...then giving up.

Help me! - What to buy!

as stated its not that difficult. Here is one automatic solution.
  6. you don't want to "go analog with them"...because even if they have a bnc out it would not be megapixel quality. I doubt the geovision software could be used with this camera. Honestly you are much better off selling them (they look horrible for a home application) and go with some variant of hikvision dome cameras, using an NVR or pc based NVR software. There are tons of posts here with info. ds-2cd2532f is a great choice. or if you want varifocal ... DS-2CD2732F-IS
  7. http://www.milestonesys.com/Software/XProtect-IP-Video-Surveillance/xprotectgo/ xprotect will limit recording to five days....otherwise you will have to pay for an upgraded version For 40 buxs you can get blue iris, its not free but damn close to it for the feature set you get. You will needs a decent system (if you are going to use motion detection) and depending on the megapixels of your cameras, you will need an modern sandy/ivy/haswell i3- or i5 (for the 4 cams)......don't expect it to run on an old Pentium 4 or even dual core system if you are using megapixel cams.
  8. These a 900 cameras, for a home? Are you planning on using them indoors? outdoors in some kind of enclosure? If you want night vision you will need some sort of external ir lightighing or ambient light as these dont have ir leds. Honestly this seems like way over-kill. for a home application. How are you going to record them? Sd card slot, NVR? You don't a managed switch, a 60 dollar poe switch will power the cameras just fine.

    Budget 1 camera cctv system

why is it that you don't want an ip system? The image quality will be much better than what you will get with a basic analog system. You can sell the extra cameras. With the ip system i linked to you just need to run a single Ethernet cable to the camera back to the NVR. You don't need to hook it up to your home network if you don't want to. It will function on its own just like an analog/dvr would. My ex-boyfriend is a hacker who has hacked my phone and been stalking/harrassing me. So yeah... I'd feel better about something that is not wireless. Image quality isn't a big deal I just want something reliable and secure. the ip system I linked to is not wireless, its all wired. It does NOT have to be connected to the internet at all...its just as secure as analog and MUCH better picture quality.

    Nanny cam

this may or may not work, as the motion detection is not designed to detect one person walking into a room....assuming the motion detection is pixel based...if there is a some sort of sensor to detect movement then it wont work at all. Also, there is no way to define any pretrigger motion record (or at least I doubt it).

    Need Help Simple System

Do not let them install an analog system. How much did the quote you? Where do you live that it gets that cold? These hikvisions are rated to -30c http://www.hikvision.com/UploadFile/image/2013082213464567195.pdf http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/Products_show.asp?id=9128&showid=1 you can record to an sd card and/or to an NVR they can be had for about 200 on ali express of about 260 from a us seller.. The (s) at the end of the model means that it has sound capability but, you need to add the mic or speaker.... they are available at Costco under the swann brand name, http://www.costco.com/Swann-HD-1080p-3MP-IP-Vari-Focal-Add-on-Bullet-Camera.product.100089466.html http://www.costco.com/Swann-HD-3MP-IP-Vari-Focal-Add-on-Dome-Camera.product.100089445.html no sound but they do have sd card slots. this cheaper hik can be had for about 170 (less on ali) but its not varifocal and there is no sound or SD.http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/Products_show.asp?id=9090 also at Costco in a twin pack http://www.costco.com/.product.100039914.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-itempageVerticalRight-_-CategorySiloedViewCP&cm_vc=itempageVerticalRight|CategorySiloedViewCP

  13. 1) I don't know about the frame rates because I have never done an 88 camera install. But with the proper hardware this should not be an issue. 2) I disagree about the Linux based nvr being more secure than windows. The reason is simply that the manufactures update firmware very rarely. A windows based machine updated regularly will be fine. 3) suzy the receptionist is not plugging her usb drive into the dedicated NVR server....there is a built in firewall and its on a separate network .
  14. The issue you pose about hacking into ip cameras is only applicable if you open ports to an outside network. If you are paranoid about that you can keep then network closed and internal. Or set up vpn. The hacks you post are camera hacks and only those cameras that are port forwarded are exposed. Again, don't port forward the cameras themselves, use a software based NVR that is frequently updated. Finally, any sdi/analog system streams to the net has the same exposure as ip based systems.

    lorex playback slow and choppy

if it works at the Nvr, then you most likely have a network issue..

    Control Your Garage door opener

the garage butler would not solve the problem of someone pressing hold and leaving the door open. Total DIY solution http://didicloseit.com/ This is an off the shelf solution http://shop.gogogate.com/en/ but I don't think it can send a timed message after the door is left open.... coming soon https://garageio.com/

    Budget 1 camera cctv system

you don't say what your budget is? stick with an ip system. This will blow away any cheap analog cctv system http://www.samsclub.com/sams/qsee-4x4-secrty-sys/prod11570578.ip?navAction= if you have a larger budget there are better systems out there, but this is good.

    Hikvision vs. Swann

The firmware's ability to disable the ir in night mode is only really useful if you intend to use external ir light. If you are going to install regular light you can just set the camera in day mode. As far as the nas, I have no idea...it works for some people others have issues. there might be a thread where someone tries to install hik firmware on this particular swann. If you try, remember that after upgrade you often have to do a hard reset of the camera or it wont show up on the network. The hik bullets have these on the outside but the low end domes seem not to have it. I installed a Chinese DS-2CD2732F-IS last week, but did not look to see if there was a reset button on the board inside.

    Hikvision vs. Swann

Get the Costco version ...you can return it if you don't like it no questions. You should be able to load the 5.1 version but i dont know forsure. I know that I have loaded hik firmware on the older model hiks. There are threads on here about it. But why do you need 5.1 what feature do you need in the 5.1 firmware?

    Budget 1 camera cctv system

if you are only going to have one camera, just get a hikvision varifocal camera with an sd card.... no need for a dvr...unless you want to store lots of footage. http://wrightwoodsurveillance.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_68_69&products_id=294 http://wrightwoodsurveillance.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_91&products_id=290 both have sound capability if you add a mic and speaker these cameras are also available at Costco for 249 without audio capability. http://www.costco.com/Swann-HD-1080p-3MP-IP-Vari-Focal-Add-on-Bullet-Camera.product.100089466.html http://www.costco.com/Swann-HD-3MP-IP-Vari-Focal-Add-on-Dome-Camera.product.100089445.html

    Hardware setup for 26 CCTV @1080 @ 24hr/day

how is the plant growing by fractions of a mm going to affect motion?
  22. I would still go with the hikvision cube. Its a much cleaner install, cheaper, and it has a PIR motion sensor, the audio is all built in. That area in your photos is sufficiently protected from the elements so the fact the it is an indoor cam should not be an issue. The specs show an opterating temperature range of -22 to 140f...
