  1. Hi Don Many valid points there that I agree with. On the FTP security front should anyone be interested, it's the same binary they already provided in previous releases, and it's not accessible by default as it's blocked by iptables (firewall). You have to enable access first and this doesn't survive reboot. The region change can be reversed using the program I provide (no second program is needed). This permits all changes to be undone, if there's a problem in the future (a possibility) or you need to return the camera due to a fault. This is not a patch but rather a firmware independent change as you observed. Any firmware patch (the subject of this thread) can be undone just by flashing the original again. Certainly it seems a good precaution to check here or other forums before putting on a new firmware, just to make sure there's no issues. I try to jump on new firmware releases to test all is OK quickly where I can. Again - you made very good points there. The manufacturer can decide to check for such things if they so desire - so any solution I've provided takes this into account and can be reversed. I have posted a full FAQ relating to the region changer which covers these issues on other forums, but not here as I wasn't sure if it was OK or not and decided to play safe rather than risk breaking board rules. Anyone that expresses interest via PM or email is given these links so they can read for themselves. I hope this goes at least some way to addressing your (valid) concerns. Cheers
  2. This is a successful test - you can ping the camera (192.0.0.64) OK. Just connect to the web page and configure.
  3. How about ifconfig eth0:0 192.0.0.128 ping 192.0.0.64 ? Make sure your firewall isn't blocking anything on that interface
  4. My post above had a missing word should have been Perhaps it was Freudian
  5. No it's not just you - thanks for the heads up as I didn't notice on my test camera, but this matters on my front camera and I'm not prepared to accept it. Like you, I find line traversal to be excellent and really changes my motion detection setup for the better. To be honest, there are things about Hik that I like (their cameras) and things I do not. These are in the latter category: - Changed EN menus to CN with no warning this would happen when we bought them - Released 2 different 5.1.6s and a 5.1.4 beta which is confusing and poor release management - FTPD removed in 5.2.0 (not in release notes) - Line traversal reduced from 4 to 1 area (not in release notes). - Don't like it? Well update to 5.2.0 and it doesn't allow downgrade (though TFTP works for now). We are not going to warn you first. (again not in release notes) Unacceptable in my view. Also I feel some responsibility as I've provided region change solutions to some very nice people recently who specifically wanted 5.2.0. I'm seriously considering providing those people a 5.2.0 patch to give back FTPD and 4 traversal lines again for no additional charge. I try to stay on the right side of things and play fair with Hikvision - I'm not looking to undermine them but I feel the above would be justified.
  6. The path for me on the USA FTP site is ftp://ftp.hikvisionusa.com/Hikvision_IP_PTZ/Hikvision_IP_Camera_Firmware/Raptor_2xxx_Series/ Looks like they changed the directory structure.
  7. Tested and no doesn't work. Think NAS share or SD card best way to go.
  8. To be honest, I don't know. It if works with a EU/US region camera, then yes my region changer will fix it. It the region of the camera makes no difference, then neither will my program.
  9. Looks like they removed the ftp daemon Anyone tried enabling SSH and copying to camera using scp? I'm still using my own compiled dropbear which works with scp but no idea about version included in fw. Don't see the point in removing FTP, it's not like you can't just copy to and from a NAS share anyway (NFS, CIFS).
  10. No it's moved to Security. They even added SSH (dropbear)
  11. Something about EZVIZ Cloud P2P. It's not something I've looked into though - so maybe cloud support was misleading.
  12. No that won't help it will still be Chinese even with EU/US firmware loaded via TFTP. It isn't Chinese or EU/US firmware that decides what language the OSD and menus are.
  13. No. This is a file hack that will not survive a firmware change, mine is a factory region change which is independant of what firmware you put on. Please PM me to discuss - all such conversations and discussions are confidential.
  14. I think there's some confusion here. You wouldn't review the raw files from the hard disk - you would use the Hikvision camera interface which shows you all motion recorded events in a user friendly way. Using this router is exactly the same as any other NAS device.
  15. If you can setup a Samba (CIFS) or NFS share on it which you probably can, then yes All the Hikvision camera I've seen and worked with can record to NFS or CIFS
  16. I would have thought the event would be logged, even if no recording was made by the camera itself. But I only use NFS and SD so it's just my guess based upon the way the program tends to work. If you want to test, share a blank 8Gb+ USB stick on Windows, and use it as a NAS share on the camera. If it records mot det videos on to it, but not the smart mot det ones, then I don't think the problem is anything to do with your Surveillance Station.
  17. I have motion detection enabled on mine. Searching the log also shows when instrusion det or plane traversal are triggered.
  18. Are you talking about the June 2014 build of 5.1.6 released a few days ago? On mine plane traversal and instrusion detection (which can be enabled at the same time, but not face detection) work fine and record fine. If you are on the June 2014 5.1.6, then maybe reset the config of your camera and see if that helps?
  19. You are welcome my friend - glad I could help Enjoy your now US/EU region camera
  20. Yes. Tested on my own Chinese (made permanently English) camera. Comes up fine with no hacks needed.
  21. The md5sum is different. And a comparison shows it's not just a few bytes.
  22. I saw him around here somewhere. He looks a bit tired from lack of sleep though This 5.1.6 is different than the old 5.1.6. I'm not sure how though. Some release notes /change logs would be nice
  23. That's very kind No worries though, without making any comment relating to the OP, I can confirm that I'm not aware that anyone has stolen any work I've done relating to embedded linux devices. If anyone ever does, I know who to call to arms
  24. Yep. Unless you either change the camera factory region, or manually patch/hack the firmware you put on, then you are correct.
