    video wall

Can you provide the use case? We have done video walls for different customers but each has different requirements which significantly changes variables and pricing. As an example: 1 Machine with a 4ch video out card similar to a Windows multi-desktop environment. Software based fairly cheap and straight forward. Hardware based that uses a matrix driver that can take multiple monitors and make it appear as one. Items then can re-sized as one or multiple windows. There is also an advanced version that allows for multi-station keyboard controls. Then there is the all in one box like the NST-Vid-Wall 8000 Series. It is a 19" rack mount appliance that can handle over 500 inputs. You can mix and match analog, HD-SDI AND IP. You can also add keyboard controllers and a bunch of options I can't even remember. With this, your recording platform can be with whoever you want and mix it as well. The last 2 I would use for a monitoring center.

    Video Enhancement

Can you PM me with a file link and and email to send back? Do you also have it in non-avi format too or was it recorded as AVI? What State is this? Most States it is a felony upcharge when the theft is against a senior citizen. Bet it is someone local that knows. I would get the news involved with this one. Push the "therapeutic" parrot as it probably kept her alive this long as companionship. Have them announce if she dies the thieves would be responsible for homicide from stress related issue. How anyone can target a senior citizen in reprehensible! Muslim cultures do have a few things right like cutting the hands off thieves.
  3. First I would say not to buy from Ebay. It comes down to support after the install. If you browse this forum, it is filled with people looking for help because their source doesn't provide support. An English speaking distributor with a vast knowledge of CCTV and networking. Odd are you can get better deals that way as well. One distributor even provides you with white label support, a free website and manages the products for you so you don't have to enter descriptions etc. They also offer dealer protection products such as product licensing activation so you know your clients will pay the bill or the software locks. The ideal thing is build your business model on it. Choose someone that will support your business model. Rarely Ebay fits that bill.

    Port forwarding problems, zmodo h.264

Funny thing I was at a customer today that had: Att DSL Router WAN: Internet routable LAN: 192.168.1.1 connected to a Linksys router Wan: 192.168.1.254 LAN: 192.168.1.1 This does not work as NAT can't distinguish between 192.168.1.1 Network A and Network B. Funny thing was sometimes it worked and most times it didn't. I can only conclude the ARP table refreshes and comes up with alternate methods BUT by all means this shouldn't have worked at all. I have seen double NAT before but not this bad. The fix also fixed their slow network issue.

    Upgrading dvr to 960H

It doesn't work that way. At least not 100% In order to take advantage of 960H you need to change the cameras to 960H cameras too. Your existing cameras on a 960H DVR will appear cropped and depending on DVR will be stretched. Difference of 4:3 vs 16:9 Questions: How many cameras do you have now? Can you afford replacing? Is it just a few you need better res? Is you existing DVR set to D1? Most inexpensive DVRs are set to CIF resolution by default or have odd configurations of 1st and 5th channel D1 and the remaining CIF. However if you have DCIF or 2CIF, I have found on occasion it looks better than D1. If your already at D1 then upgrading cameras to 960H or HD-SDI with the latter being the preferred since you can run over existing coax. The nice thing about going hybrid, you can keep your existing and update gradually (Although that thought process, technology moves faster than you upgrade) The edges your describing can also be the quality and lens size. I always prefer box cameras because of the greater lens options. Using a 1/2 HD lens on a 1/3" sensor fixes most edge issues. Plus a lens made in Japan.Korea,China usually in that order of high quality to just ok makes a difference. You will notice in these posts several people have upgraded lenses and found a big difference. IF you have cheap camera, there are M12 and o14 lens replacements that work wonders. Worth spending $20-28 to test. Worse case, donate your system to charity, buy a new one and deduct on taxes for a charitable contribution.

    Jpeg 2000 standalone help please?

@ wireguys I ran a calculator on it and he should get 30 days plus no problem on average motion and that frame rate with worst case scenario 6Gb per channel per day. Almost need remote access to poke around the settings to see if it jumps out. Do you have screen shots of your schedule and motion setup screens? Sometimes a second set of eyes might catch it.

    Help for Newbie

This sounds perfect for a Mobotix until you mentioned inexpensive. Might want to check it out, The new M5 has dual lenses that are interchangeable. Check out CCTVreports.com They have it on the main page.
  10. Pricey You could get a 16ch 960H Full Wide D1 + 16 channel IP for that price that comes WITH a 2TB drive OR that exact spec for around $100 less. The Hikvision looks good but the eyeball camera looks very questionable. If your already willing to spend the money go for the 960H cameras and the 3MP IP if you want to mix and match.

Another example of not buying in the USA or from an authorized dealer. The money goes there but FREE tech support is expected here. You bought cheap, you GOT cheap so you might want to keep trying the manufacturer. This happens over and over. It is about expectations. I here the "Why is it so expensive, Sams Club and Costco has them for much less." As I tell them ,call Sam's Club and ask them how to setup your DVR, unlock it when it get's bricked, setting up your firewall and connect using your cell phone. See how far you get. I could sell your a DVR system for the same price as Sam's Club but your going to get charged for each time you call in. Ok, enough of the I told you so. I will have an answer for you by morning.

    Jpeg 2000 standalone help please?

I would try a hard drive format and a complete DVR reset even removing the battery, the verify your hard drive in another machine and if still having problems you might want to consider a new DVR. I can only think I and P frames are not set correctly. However, you could possibly have motion AND normal record on at the same time. Some DVRs allow this so motion is really just a marker on playback. Have you burned a 2 minutes clip? What is the file size for 2 minutes on 8 cameras?

    understanding camera info

Let's break this down. •Image Sensor: 1/2.5" IR-CUT CMOS Sensor Either Sony or Aptina. Better than 1/3" but not 100% sure on the make •TV System: PAL/NTSC(Can only choose one of them) Standard •Effective Pixels: PAL 792(H)X698(V) NTSC 768(H)X494(V) This is good they list this way. Some sellers fudge and use Total pixels which really doesn't do much. •Horizontal Resolution: 1000TVL Combine with a 1/2.5, looks good so far --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- •Lens: Built in 6mm Lens (3.6mm and 6mm Option) There is no mention on the quality of the lens. Lenses from Japan, Korea and China, usually in that order, range in great quality down to just Ok. There is no mention here if the lens has IR correction yet IR is included in the camera. Further more the lens size is not mentioned but I am guessing it is an M12, that would explain the poor lux performance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- •Infrared LED number: 36pcs LED (0.5mm) No mention of the brand, wave length or "effective distance" •Minimum Illumination: 1.0Lux F=1.2 (0Lux with IR on) Not impressive as lux levels on decent cameras are on the right of the decimal such as 0.01, 0.003 ,etc. 0 Lux with IR on tells me the IR's are not that great and you range is probably 20 feeet or less •S/N ratio: ≥48dB Average •Video Output: 1.0Vp-p.75. BNC Connector Standard CCTV 1 volt peak to peak •AGC: Auto Standard •White Balance: Auto Standard •Backlight Compensation: Auto Standard •Exposure Mode: EE Standard •Electronic Shutter: 1/50(1/60) - 1/100000 sec Suspect Overall I would agree with Kawboy12r that the information is vague. This almost seems like the cheap crap you find on Ebay. There is a seller on Ebay "Good.." something, the name escapes me, that peddles junk. Without knowing the actual chip manufacturer and model you don't know the true specs. Back in the day Sharp was known for the bottom of the barrel and quality was noticeable vs a Sony. Most Sony ones were about $15-$25 more but after seeing a side-by-side you could see why. There are so many new chip manufacturers such as Aptina that have great chips but like Kawboy12r mentioned you don't know the clarity of the lens. The lens and it's "F" stop rating, lower the better, makes a big difference. The formula to think about is: Buy a cheap $40 camera then realize it is bad, buy a cheap $55 camera and realize it isn't much better when you can do a little research for free, spend around $100 -$150 and come out ahead in price, time and aggravation.

    Installing and configuring IP address

    Where are you located?
  20. Have you run a port scan to verify the ports are responding? You also might want to change port 80 to something else in case the router has something else running on 80. What is the router model?
  21. Are you connecting main stream or sub-stream? Considering you probably paid 3-4 times for a Dahua system by going through IC Realtime, they are not offering support? Try downloading iDMSS in the apple store and see if you get the same result.
  22. Run a HW Info report on both machines. It will make it easier for a side by side compare.
  23. Seems like a very generic canned answer. You are far from 64 cameras. If you disconnect 8 cameras, does the CPU usage drop in half? I still would at least try the separate card to determine if there is an issue.
  24. It is not complete until you had someone knock on the back door at the time they were putting out the flaming bag out front and they tracked it all through the house to get to you. Here you go. Purchase a cow's femur and a large dog bowl and leave it on the porch!
