    Raindrops trigger motion sensing

I have a couple videos of spiders that crawl across the dome. The spider isn't really in focus but it is obvious what it is. And it's not like either spider just crawled across. They each stopped smack in the middle and did a little dance before moving on. Yeah, raindrops are a p.i.t.a. for digital motion sensing.

    IE 7 jumping

I'm with you 100% on that! And when I have too much free time I don't pay video games, no, I download and install FireFox plugins, then uninstall them, just to see what they do. Seriously, IE7 seems to be playing catch-up to where FireFox already is. I haven't see Opera in a few years, wasn't as user friendly as I hear it is now.

    Raid 1 and 5 Questions

I’ll toss out what I did for my PC based DVR, and why, and hopefully it will dispel any misconceptions about what RAID can/can't do. I opted for a newer Intel 945G board because of (a) the embedded Matrix RAID (1, 2, and 5), and (b) the embedded graphics driver has overlay …meaning I did not need to buy a video card. My DVR is: mother board DVR card pair of SATA HDDs. That’s it!!! Less h/w means less heat means less fan noise means a quieter DVR. Oh, there is a CD/DVD-RW drive in it collecting dust, too. I set up the pair of 250gb HDDs by partitioning 30gb off the top of each HDD for the Win XP operating system and “future applicationsâ€
  4. I’m looking into getting some cameras, looking at the Pelco product line, tho I am not necessarily sold on it. I am thinking maybe I would like 2 of the cameras to be PTZ. Was wondering if it is better to buy a factory made PTZ or to buy a camera and stuff it into a housing and mount that on a PT platform?

Best way to do a PTZ Camera ?

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I’ve considered what everyone had to offer and decided the best thing for my application is a dome PTZ because of the lower profile/appearance in the neighborhood. I’m just going to have to accept the fact that I may need to replace internal hardware if it wears out. The dome I like is the Pelco Spectra III because it allows me the opportunity to use a low-light camera with a wide dynamic range. I’m trying to avoid IR all together. If there is another enviro (IP66) PTZ dome that I should be considering please let me know the make/model. Thanks again to all for your help!

    Auto tracking

Don’t know if this is relevant to the thread but I’m told Pelco is about to release auto tracking cameras. I been trying to imagine how they would work with my PC based (w/ILDVR cards) DVR’s motion detection. I don’t even know how Pelco’s random scanning feature of their PTZ camera’s would work with the ILDRV’s motion detection?!? Other nifty stuff I’m told is coming from Pelco in the very near future is a heat camera at about 1/2 the current price for such things (that should save you about $7,000.00 ), and a line of proximity detection, point of entry detection, and security panels. Pelco’s entry into security panels and POE detection got me excited, the potential for interfacing cameras and DRVs with POE and proximity detection. With just a single PTZ camera you will have the ability to monitor a whole room. It can turn itself on and zoom into wherever it needs to be when it needs to be there, and turn itself off when nothing is there.

CCTV camera 12V DC or 24V AC?

When using a voltage drop calculator remember to include both the path to the camera and the path returning from the camera. So on a 75-ft run of Siamese cable the length to calculate for is 150-ft. Kensplace – it doesn’t work quite like that. DC voltage drops off a lot faster, can be an issue inside of a 10-ft run for some things. AC voltage drop usually doesn’t start to become an issue until you get into cables that run several hundred feet. To give you some idea, look at the distance from the transformer nearest your home to the furthest wall receptacle in the back of your house. DC voltage drop can be worse in the summer depending on where the cable is run. If it is run thru an attic without proper ventilation the increased heat can cause the voltage to drop, too. When I do boat wiring I need to calculate how may feet of wire ran thru an engine compartment and calculate a separate voltage drop at a higher rate for that part of the cable run. I am surprised the camera is not working with 11.5vdc. That’s only around a 4% drop in voltage.
  8. You may need to email their support dept. They are a Hong Kong company. Delurking

Hello to all. My name in Joe, I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area (California). I'm not affiliated with any company or security business. I'm just tangled up in getting a system installed around the house. Not nearly as easy as they had me believing. ...
