I took the plunge and bought the system from Costco. Figured I could always return it if it doesn't work, and I'm leaving for a trip next week. The system came as a whole bunch of individual boxed components. Before completely extracting and setting up, I'm trying to figure out if I can convert one of the Lorex cameras into a standalone IP camera for a separate location, i.e. not use the Lorex NVR. Does anyone know the default IP address for the Lorex cameras? I'm on a Mac, so using SADP (might work?) isn't really an option.

Fantastic thread. Where do you get the php script to extract the pictures and videos? extract_hik_picindex.php Did you write it? If so, are you willing to share?
