    Help with DVR

Hi Kevchall, I am at the moment trying to get the same model DVR online for a friend of the family to view on his Android table, causing me a real pain in the neck. I can tell you that i have just replaced an old 420tvl camera with a 700tvl Sony Effio camera on the DVR, just a cheapie from ebay but what a differance!!! Just remember the camera lens plays a big roll in the image quality and not just the resolution of the processor. If just for the sake of a test you set the DVR to Super Fine on the highest setting and let it record a few mins then play it back and compare it with the image as live, you should see little differance in quality. It is an old unit but was a good one in its day. You should see an improvement with a modern DVR using D1 coding but i would surgest for the sake of £50 (if your on a budget) and using the type of camera i suspect, try a better camera first. All said like the comment from MaxIcon, its hard to say with not knowing what camera spec your using. Looking at your link i am guessing its the KS-578VR using the Sony Effio DSP. This should get you good results but you should find the same model much cheaper with out looking to hard and yes im a tight old sod
  3. G' Evening All........ Hers one for the guys who are not affraid to remember how long they have been installing who still have a working memory, unlike mine Problem:- I have been asked by a friend of the family (Yes! one of those), if the Cop Security 15-ZT4 DVR can be viewed on their sons Samsung WiFi tablet while away on holiday? Has it was myself who supplied them with this unit some years ago they thought i would be the best person to ask I should maybe point out that i am a soon to be retired sparky with little experience of the finer points of CCTV but i have dabbled for one of a better word. The DVR is set up and working fine on there pc but only on their LAN network using DVR Viewer software, all works great! I have read Cop's manual for the ZT series DVR and it does explain how to set up a WAN connection, this i have attempted to do. They are using a Netgear N3000 (WNR2000) on a Virgin Media connection. I belive i have opened port 5400 on the router correctly but cannot be sure. If i input the Ip into "Can you see me. Org" and the port number it comes back as fine, port open. When i try to connect via I.E all i get is a page that never times out and just keeps on looking, i think thats what its doing? Im told that i need to subscribe to DYNS or something because using Virgin they have an Ip that is not static, this is now getting way beyond me First i guess im asking is it possible to connect to this unit and view it remotely via either IE or Android, not sure if this unit is even capable of this given its age. Second, if it is possible can anyone advise me what i need to do or where i am going wrong. I have read through loads of pages here on the forum but nothing quite seems to fit my situation. Any help would be very-very much appreciated. Cheers Stanley Max
