After all this discussions, I have done an installation where two cameras are almost 600' away from the DVR. It's a Dahua HCVR5208 DVR, and one camera is HAC-HDW1100R and the other one is a PTZ: SD59112I/120I-HC. It's a total of 8 cameras, but these two are the furthest cameras out of all of them, so in my opinion, COAX will always be the better solution, but CAT6 with Video Balums works. I will get some screenshots of day and night views and post them. Note: I used one wire per camera, one pair for video, one pair for power except the PTZ which I used two pairs since it's 24 Volts.

Dahua Slight S.M.A.R.T HDD error now different message
secplus replied to n0fx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I know is late, but just format the drive, don't mount it, or assign a drive letter, this usually fixes this issue, also it could be the port. Have you tried to switch the drive to another port? -
First of all, take a look at this from the Hikvision website: Unauthorized Distributors Policy Hikvision USA only supports products that are sold through company approved channels and will not support product sold outside these channels. Hikvision USA only provides Warranty Service and Technical Support for products purchased directly from an Authorized Hikvision USA Distribution Partner who are listed here: http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/distributionPartner-usa.asp?cid=17 Unauthorized North American Distributors include but are not limited to the following: Aliexpress (http://www.aliexpress.com) CCTVOne (Amazon Store, http://www.cctvone.com) Gemini Computers (http://www.geminicomputersinc.com) http://www.sears.com http://www.survellient.net http://www.syscom.com/www.epcom.net wrightwoodsurveillance.com Newegg (http://www.newegg.com) TechGeekShop (http://www.techgeekshop.com) Amazon (http://www.amazon.com) Before you purchase, please contact Hikvision USA Customer Service at csr@hikvisionusa.com if you have any questions or concerns if your source is authorized. http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/UnauthorizedDistributors.asp Second, are those prices installed? While I cannot say whether is a good price or not, since I'm a Dahua type of guy, this is a normal price for this type of equipment, since the installed also has to support it. I'm sorry, but don't be cheap with this stuff or all you are going to get bit in the rear in the future....

Questions about DVRs and Hard drive sizes, types
secplus replied to Joeinamillion's topic in General Digital Discussion
Exactly, do you have any idea how many service calls I get for HD Issues with DVR's that have been installed less than a year? There were times when I switched DVR's for the customer just to make them feel better about the product because of hard drive issues. Not to mention the money loss for warranty service calls!!!! -
Customer: "Hey. I want you to add one camera to my system, and while you are there, maybe you can clean up the wires a little bit, it's not bad, just a little bit messy" Ok, no problem.....I take out the ceiling tile, and almost got a concussion !!

Questions about DVRs and Hard drive sizes, types

From personal experience, I have had many issues with a lot of hard drives especially on DAHUA's DVR's. Purple Surveillance drives from Western Digital have been a godsend, no issues whatsoever using these drives. -
Short Answer is NO.

Yeah, an app for the DVR is what I have been using, but right now I'm on a project were we are upgrading old analog systems on 18 locations with anywhere between 16-32 cameras each location, and it's a pain. The cameras I'm using is a Dahua OEM bullet 720p system. http://www.dh-vision.com/index.php/hd-cvi-cameras/bullet-cameras/720p-1-2-9-1mp-cmos-3-6mm-bullet-354.html

I've seen a lot of gimmicky sales pitches where people claim that you can. I know that CVI will work with them, but at a degraded quality. I've only tested one TVI camera with them with similar results, but that was a garbage camera and I'm not going to claim they're all the same. AHD is a total mystery to me. I'll be able to answer this in a couple of days. I have a house that I had pre-wired for an IP system, but due to cost over-runs on the build of the rest of the house, owner decided on a CVI system from Dahua. I already have their PTZ and a couple of the domes up, but I'm waiting on the electrician to put power in the closet where the DVR is, so the minute that's done I'll take some recorded video and stills and post them on their own thread

I just want to know why is it that all of you guys are going on about the damm CVI signal, look, the camera you chose is a digital signal camera, you would need a HD-CVI DVR to bring in the signal, and then feed it to your TV VIA HDMI or PC, or even composite input. so instead of going for this, go for a ANALOG 960H Camera, is not HD, but I'm pretty sure that the video quality is more than enough for what you are using it for, just use a power supply that's rated at at least 2A, and call it a day, it's not difficult... Example, camera: http://gogss.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=25_28&product_id=535 Power Supply http://gogss.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=34_44&product_id=243 Ends: http://gogss.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=34_48&product_id=224 for tv: http://gogss.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=34_48&product_id=221 power for camera: http://gogss.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=34_48&product_id=215 And yes, with CVI cameras you would have needed to put in a power supply no longer than 300FT because the amperage drops after that distance, and you would have the issue of having a picture during the day, and at night when the LED's turn on, not enough power is reaching the camera, so it essentially shuts down. With analog, you have more leeway on this, just put a higher amp power supply and the power should reach, I have done it at a little over 800 feet, but to achieve this, get HIGH QUALITY 100% COPPER CABLE. It's going to cost you anywhere from 150-250 bucks for a spool of 1000', but that's what you need to get in order to make sure you have the best picture possible and that power reaches the camera. a Tip from an old pro, if you have a TUBE TV with a Yellow Composite input, try it first, in my opinion, the image looks better to me than LCD panel

I have family down over there in Venezuela, so I know what you mean by having capital issues. First question, the cameras that you have now, are they doing the job or do you want to upgrade those? Second, The software avaiable free for this many cameras is more than likely going to be garbage, it's going to cost you some money to get a good server program. Third, you need to figure out what format and protocol your cameras are working with, and that whatever software you decide to go with supports them, and then you need to find cameras that work with this system.

Hola David.....I was looking at the trendnet site and it seems that they have a replacement model for the cameras that you are using, and a new updated Luxriot software that would support 100+ cameras. It might just be more cost effective to just switch all the cameras and use a stand alone DVR, and it will probably cost you about the same but with all new hardware. Te mando un PM con mi informacion.

Picture problems Grass looks white- 720p camera
secplus replied to csheff's topic in Security Cameras
It's a Zmodo system, all these other installers should have already told you that the problem is not settings or anything that you are doing wrong, the IR filter is not disengaging and turning into day mode automatically, the sensor is probably on it's way out. Contact Zmodo and switch the camera, or better yet, buy something better, Zmodo is complete junk. -
Ok so I'm connected to a 960H DVR. Should an image of a person look stretched/fat? That is what I am getting. Can you or anyone answer this question? If I connect the 960h camera directly to a 4:3 monitor via BNC to RCA yellow on the monitor, what should I see? A. 16x9 image with black bars on the top and bottom with no image stretching. (image of a person will look normal). B. 4x3 image that is squishing the 16x9 image into the 4x3 monitor. No black bars. (Image of a person will look skinny and tall) C. 4x3 image that cuts off the right and left sides. No black bars (Image of a person looks normal) D. A normal 4x3 image with no black bars.(Image of a person looks normal) I would think the answer would be B or maybe A, but I am getting D instead. Since I am getting D, I'm assuming that the camera is not 960h and it is D1. First, you should have said that you had a 960H DVR. The image is going to look stretched on a 16:9 screen format, the image is displayed in pixels, and to cover a true 16:9 format you need 1280x720 native resolution coming from the source. But the change should be minimal. Your best bet is to take a pic and post it here so we can see what it is that you are looking at

H264 DVR won't respond to mouse or buttons
secplus replied to design4p's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Don't ask me how but sometimes when this happens switching the power supply works, and also open up the DVR and go thru the connections inside, sometimes things get loose. Other than that maybe is time for a new DVR... let us know how you make out. -
Must register your cameras with local police- thoughts?
secplus replied to shockwave199's topic in General Digital Discussion
I can see them passing something where commercial cameras are optional to be registered, but not private ones. I'm in CT and some cities here have a similar law in the books, but is not a "forced" registration, is actually optional, and for their trouble they get a small tax break and the peace of mind that it comes knowing that at any given time the police are watching your property (at least that's their mindset). Mostly business owners take advantage of this, while very few private residences take part of this program. I dunno, the way this country has been going for a while with this socialist like movement, it wouldn't surprise me that more and more states are going to use their powers to gain access to people's personal lives under the pretext of security. Let's see where this goes -
Maybe in the wrong area, but can one of the moderators please tell me how I can gain access to the dealer section?
