Walmart budgets more time and money in their loss prevention directed at their own inhouse workers than the general public. Most of the recorded material stored is on the cash registers and the parking lots. They have a reputation of not only being evasive in their tactics but border on illegal in their methods of data mining employes as well as customers. Ive known subs that did gc work for some stores in the southeast and had some run ins with their so called "professional" loss prevention staff, not very well trained or educated towards legal issues envolving in store theft/shoplifting etc, many counties prevent off duty law enforcement from moonlighting as they used to in the old days and you got the wannabe with a dimestore shield playing Rambo. Countless law suits that get settled outta court. As they are non union to begin with I woulnt have anything good to say about the company anyway. Just another corp cog in the wheel destroying the American worker and their families, my two cents.

it maybe a pedestrian people counter sensor frequently used on commercial/retail installs located close to entry/exit doors

New York State has some of the best line men and electrical workers in the world, the NYC standards and safety requirements for electrical work in heavy and highway are strictly enforced. The statement of "licenses handed out for a couple of cereal box tops" based on one persons representation of their electrical/energy knowledge or lack of does not speak for the trade. Have a good and safe day.

I need a DVR to record 1 image/second... Which one? Thx
Lolo Wolf replied to Sliceman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
the program I suggested will store the the image as JPEG with the ability to create a AVI... you can set the FPS and save image periodical 1 sec ...1/10th sec etc....cheaper than a security DVR if you wanna go that route... -
Dvr capture card and seamless switching question?
Lolo Wolf replied to pasmore's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Reading your other post... What you are tryin to do is more for industrial/video production type of applications that gear is pricey but sounds like a synchro or possible ground problem...not too sure bout those cams ability... locking to your switcher maybe have to upgrade your cams and try this or similar... http://www.burstelectronics.com/vs8x8.htm also look at the Model VS8x1.... this is from their spec: "When a channel is selected, the switcher waits for the start of the next vertical interval to change to the selected input. If the inputs are synchronous (genlocked), this will allow a seamless transition from one input to another. All inputs are DC clamped, at the back porch (color burst), to ground by the video switcher. The output is also ground referenced. If there are any level shifts on the incoming video, the video switcher will eliminate these offsets and ground reference the outgoing video." Good Luck -
prevent dvr from being unplugged?
Lolo Wolf replied to cctvman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
cut the plug off and wire it directly..... no doubt the assembly was approved as a cord and plug connected device. Modifying it would violate its listing, (NEC) bad idea.... -

If you have a TV card on your computer you might want to try this program for your still snap shot captures, Ive used it for a few years for some on the fly time lapse recording...it is highly configurable with static or dynamic motion http://www.supervisioncam.com/index.html -
Had one go south of six hangin here for bout 4 years and I called extreme...they told me to send it to them and they repaired it nc what a pleasure to have a company stand by their product without all the bs....but I really dont like the wizkid line...tried a few bullets, dome. The compact cube IR is ok for a short IR boost but didnt like the bullets or domes at all.
-
dont know if you would consider it as a bullet but have had excellent results with the ex-10 line use some of them on my own property for years for what he is trying to attain I really think a quality box D/N & IR is the way to go..... dont think those bullets are gonna get usable images for evidence but just my two cents....
-
Rory, not sure on Nuvico any more kinda hit or miss for me .....had a call back on a HWE922IR42N-A, night vision was problematic the IR was no where near the stated spec and Ive been waiting for a Nuvico mini ptz-10 for many weeks....My dealer told me Nuvico is having problems on their production line and they are a pain in the ass to deal with, I avoid bullets whenever I can with a few exceptions....always suggest quality D/N boxes with dedicated IR but its all about cost... when clients see the difference they understand
-
sorry Rory didnt see you there....posted while I was typeing

Ive used the WZ-18 as well the 16.... the wizkid bullet line is priced better but dont like their performance or the domes... but got better results with the Extreme EX line, I hope those will give you the results you are lookin for, I prefer the UF-100 with a dedicated extreme ps along with a good D/N box but most people dont want to spend the money.....good luck
-
Agree with G-Man, I use conduit.. might as well oversize it and pull a spare if its a long run you might be out there later for future... exit from a nema box or access fitting if thru wall (removable cover) up to cam with another small nema box for connection with watertight conection, depending on application if the cabling is exposed to cam use flex or armour if its in a vandal environment prefer armour from the box to the cam (minor deterrent) protect from critters...birds peckin and squirrels...

Hello liv4ree....not sure why or what the other poster is doin but I am not associated with his business/website....have a good day
-
one more thought.... a litle trick here, in Montana there is a code pertaining to boundry markers (monument/civil hubs) it is a Misdemeanor to move or disturb one, if your client has one visible and they mess with it and he can get it on tape its hands down in court....did a covert install for a lawyer here to help settle a neighbor disbute that went back and forth for over a year...it worked in your case the bussiness owner may have more local clout and your client is not there all the time....local rual politics, run accross thoses issues a lot out here....use good cams and catch the bastards....good luck
-
OK, if he wants to monitor the specific problem area where trespass is occuring (pushing snow onto his property and blocking his access) as well use the captured video for possible evidence you should go with quality cams and maybe he should consider a convert/low profile install inside as well since he already questioned the offending party and they blew him off they may trash his property after seeing his cams, Ive come accross a lot of stupid stuff with cameras and neighbor vrs neighbor disbutes....did he take any still photos of the offense? Did he file a complaint with the local PD, sounds like a rual area but there are local codes pertaining to what happened to him in most counties.... even with snow removal...from what I read in your post the need for a dedicated monitor is null cause he just wants to review the dvr so a hard switch or swap imput when he wants to review would work....would be a good idea to keep the DVR close to the tv, keep the cable as short as possible and for cams go for the problem area maybe use one for zoom into trouble spot and another for wider coverage as a backup....too bad you cant go with a remote setup cause sounds like he is only there once in awhile but I can assure you once he starts with cams he will open up a can worms you should tell him to go with a covert install of a cam on the interior as well...if you go box look at the panasonic D/N line with a quality enclosure heater/blower and good lens, maybe look into using a dedicated IR along with it, the smaller Extreme cams are excellent no need for enclosures Ive had good results with the EX 27 and EX 10 really depends on how much the client is willing to spend, there are some higher end bullets too that you might want to look at as well but I would stick with a branded high quality box/lens....pani, sanyo maybe toshiba....etc also tell him to put up a no tresspass sign that is visable near the problem area, might be subjected to placement and size to local ordinances, to insure his complaint if it ever gets to court.

Caught on video and the cops need help

they dont have a problem finding good doughnuts and coffee..... but heck I always hope they come home safe at the end of shift -
also....if you do go the switch route I would stay clear of the cheap thumb type and use powered one for example: http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemSpecs.aspx?productid=SVID410IR&c=US and use quality patch cable to lessen your loss...plus your clent would have the option to add other devices if needed as well and if you are employing the dedicated micros, (eco line) it has a spot monitor output and a main... if you modulate a channel instead of the switch your client would be able to just flip to the dedicated channel while watching tv and not have to mess with a added imput either way the quality will be limited using a older Direct View CRT TV....thinking bout cams again if you do decide to go box with enclosures heater/fans instead of bullets need to know more on your budget before exploring those options
-
For cameras....a little more info on budget would help, you could modulate a channel from your dvr to the TV, however maybe explain to your client the higher quality of a dedicated cctv monitor or does he have the need for realtime monitoring while he is using the TV....if so does the TV have pip...maybe dual tuner, need to know more info on the TV and costs you are working with to give you ideas and advice for gear....you stated the cams dont have to be for fine detail or I take it as mid line resolution but low light so depending on your budget/bid in proposal maybe some higher end bullet cams, how cold is the temp approx that your service would require, by "extreme" do you mean sub-zero?.....you may not need heaters... since you are a low voltage installer dont even have to get into the cable/cat and limited energy requirements you probaly have that covered already....since you asked for Rory perhaps he will respond ....more info would help

Both thoses cams are excellent the 374 advantages: total solution for outdoor install, heater fan,.. Ive used teamed up with a extreme uf100 ....very good results. I also liked the monitor output for set up The 484 I havent used but did a lot of work with the older CP474 that was replaced by the 484 and they were very good, the 484 added a auto back focus that the 474 lacked. However with a box you will have the added cost of a enclosure and a quality lens as well. Other cams that have performed well for me: outdoor rough service Sanyo Vcc-XV400 discontinued but still some dealers have them, very good low light operation, also the Extreme line of cameras and as well If you go the box route also take a look at the the Pani WV-CP254H cheaper, smaller but lacks the sens up, backlight masking and built in motion detector but maybe you dont need that... the 374 is not just hype it has a unique deterent look to it and my client liked that. Ive used a lot of panasonic products and they all perform well. I am waiting for a toshiba IK-1000 starlight the spec looks impressive and wanna bench for a upcomming job maybe take a look a it. Im sure others on the board will give you imput. For me I like the panasonic products, and have had good results with their gear. The 374 uses the superII dynamic technology and the 484 the newer superIII, a few more tweaks....remember if you go box get a quality lens you can work with to take advatage of the performance that the camera has to offer and stay away from cheap enclosures. Good Luck, wish I could ride my bike but its snowin hard here just now...

A lot of IR integrated cameras do not perform to their quoted spec. Aside from Extreme cameras ........ most claims for distance and low light performance in the field will come up far short of the spec. Some products have gotten better but better to stay clear of the all in one type of solutions and work with dedicated IR sources and good quality D/N cams, especially for a critical security application, in the long run over time it pays.
