Commercial Application and your thoughts
Lolo Wolf replied to copperjoe's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Well ok, Im sure not gonna get into a runnin argument over that one, used some honeywell over the years and pelco. Made in Korea yes but I wonder how many people know that most of the Pelco line is designed in Korea and tweaked at the clovis factory made to resemble made in the USA, A company that prides itself being American and then outsources, well ... I like pelco gear and as a retired union worker I've tried to buy american most of my life but my country went and moved the border, But I respect your opinion on gear. Perhaps he is better off going the PC route with your suggestion. -
Commercial Application and your thoughts

Sorry to hear that. I cant speak for their international (UK)solutions, they replaced a zapped Quad I had in service here without jumpin through hoops. Maybe you should try phone contact vs email they have a extensive tech support network. -
Hello Rory, Ive used this freebie with a ATI remote wonder, you can create your own macro commands, http://www.irassistant.com/dotcom/v_current/

Commercial Application and your thoughts
Lolo Wolf replied to copperjoe's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hello, embedded or PC-based with loop out being a priority take a look at the Honeywell line http://www.honeywellvideo.com/ maybe the fusionIII but check out their full line, and Panasonic, whats nice about Honeywell is their loaner program, being a law enforcement agency dealing with critical data its a plus to know that if one goes down you can be back in service asap. There is such a bloat in this market as you are aware of already and Im sure lots of people will provide more info on their expertise. But I do know of two retrofits for law enforcement (one being a county-state joint task force) where they went with Honeywell. Just a side note...hang on to those tape drives lot of old school still swear by em. Good Luck Sir. -
Need advice on system for SWAT training facility,
Lolo Wolf replied to rpogge's topic in System Design
You fellas have some great ideas, got me curious as to the solution he will use. VST_Man just a hunch but could you ask your buddy if they use static and hand held video for their MOUT reviews perhaps in combination with hands- on operators on PTZ's. He didnt specify if it was Police (State/county) but if they are going to implement the FM 90-10 standards and patterns thats a whole lot of tactical indoor close quarter work, duckin, stairs, blackout environments, room to room intensive training. Perhaps he should visit the site and scale up a layout after seeing some military or para/mil operations on urbanized terrain. Four PTZ's really sounds unrealistic, unless its its just classroom and range review, sounds very challenging but the older I get the less I know, always open to learn. By the way I really liked that "takin my ball home home now" best of health to ya. -

Need advice on system for SWAT training facility,
Lolo Wolf replied to rpogge's topic in System Design
Would help to know more details, environment, area coverage indoor/outdoor...exisiting structures, is this a new install or upgrade and your specific need for quality sound will impact what cam/system you employ. You may need a dedicated voice system depends on your coverage etc. Are you going to be contracted to mantain the system if so I would use a platform that you have field time with. You say that your budget is big, is the municipality holding you to a bid, or is this in proposal. The reason I ask is to save you downtime and headaches later. I am surprised you got this job already without a detail approved bid, usually in county/state/local municipal projects they audit all proposals with layouts/detail/equipment.Anyway in so far a gear is concerened, Ive had next to zero issues with Panasonic equipment, I think their PTZs are excellent and Pelco gear. The new Panasonic WV-NS202 has some impressive specs, Im waiting for one now and hope to bench it. Im sure there are techs on this forum with more IP field time who can give you advice on that specific gear, but what ever path you choose I would use a system you can stay on top of. Ive done county work before and they can really break your balls after the fact. Good Luck -
radiation resistant cctv camera
Lolo Wolf replied to nilakarthik's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Dont forget to put the door back on when you wanna make some popcorn, did some work with pipe crawlers years ago, the nuclear/nonnuclear specialty companies market alot of robotic, radiation resistant, inspection cams but be prepared to spend some money, http://www.symphotic.com/ http://www.roperresources.com/Nuclear-Hazardous-Environments.htm#5 if your lookin to do a startup "Which OEM will manufacture these type of cameras"(check patents: http://www.uspto.gov/main/profiles/international.htm) Are you involved in the Nuclear Industry (India) Check the canadian markets for gear, they did a lot of inspection/sub contract/work there. -
PC based Home Automation +CCTV+Media Centre system ?
Lolo Wolf replied to ak357's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hello, The MCE platform is limited but if you just want access to library and basic media functions there are plugins. Is this a end user, home based build? Go look at HAI http://www.homeauto.com/main.asp and Homeseer http://www.homeseer.com/, If your going the Microsoft Media center route they have plugins for MMC you might want to look at the Pro-100 series II. Personally my home build I used Homeseer http://www.homeseer.com/ in combination with some ELK cross platform controls (did a lot of trial and error) but had some fun http://www.elkproducts.com/ the two talk to each other, there are a lot of plugins for third party, scene lighting, thermo,pc music/whole house speaker control and other goodies but you should investigate the differences between software systems and firmware based.Try combinations of the two.For my personal home security (cctv) I only use a dedicated system, although have it integrated with whole house tv modulation and linked communication with gated entry points, entry/closure. In so far as the commerical aspects with intrusion/security systems etc, thats best left to others for advice on this board who specialize in that trade like Mr collin R But for CCTV I am old school, nuts and bolts prefer the reliability of a stand alone dedicated system with few devices and toys in between. -

Need advise on which system to choose
Lolo Wolf replied to ssaibal's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Check out the panasonic BB-HCM371A Ive used them, reliable, Ive had good luck with panasonic cctv gear, only downsides no WPA security just (WEP) digital zoom, mid line low light operation not for critical high security applications for that I would move yourself into dedicated IR gear but from what you posted and your network understanding should be a snap on install. This line of panasonic gear is aimed at the home/retail market. The cam works well in cold and hot weather and they give you a decent package.....free web view (software key embedded with the camera) and a interesting thermal sensor, client wasnt really interested in that. The pan/tilt is limited you can assign differnt shooting positions. and 2way audio (half duplex) decent setup for a home install, clean picture, set him up with a WRT54G, HGA7T antenna upgrade and DD-WRT firmware did better than 90ft through two floors timberframe/log house no los. I wont knock Toshiba, their IK-WB15A is a pretty neat cam for the money. The pani's will cost your more. -
drunks, low light, central florida, lakeside
Lolo Wolf replied to jlader's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Abbe1 is Correct, Pennsylvania has no low voltage electrical licensing the alarm/electrical requirements are regulated on the local level if your gonna work in fla be aware of the specialty (low Voltage) all limited energy requirements for contractors.Ever since Andrew they have stiffened up the commercial inspections and if someone (like a local installer) drops a call on you they will check you, be prepared for a tough time. If you want to research out some provisions go here: http://www.neca-neis.org/state/specialty_licensing.cfm#Florida If you intend to do work as a Prime down there I highly suggest you download a license app here: http://www.professionallicensing.state.de.us/default.shtml Your operations are none of my bussiness perhaps you are subcontracting local, just a friendly heads up about working interstate from my own experience over the years (In heavy/highway). In so far as your original question, follow the enviormental considerations for the climate, humididty, condensation, and since its a drinking establishment spec out the available lighting situation, and consider vandal/armor protection of your cams, from the energy aspect make sure you bond and protect all circuits, Florida is big time for lightning. Good luck and enjoy the sunshine. -
Yeah, the original poster was looking for a "system" but really its all about the software. The LPR (ALPR) technology has taken off over the past few years with new startups, and the rise in complex security on the commercial end (airport, police and homeland markets etc) Everybody is laying out bids for upgrades in exsiting systems trying to estimate integration with lower costs I come accross alot of this info from contractor/engineering friends I stay in touch with that do gov/county highway/heavy construction projects back east, and often involve retofits, the fiber layouts alone Ive seen in some AS-BUILDS are enough to make you wanna start drinkin heavy. If I was younger and not semi-retired its a field I would of liked to have gotten into, real challenging work. Well anyway I like the mountains too much now to go back to that mess back east they call living. I just thought you would like to see some of the covi LPR shots after reading your post, I did a install last year for a small Keno casino here and used some covis relaced a mickey mouse setup that the owners son did with some cheap oem domes and he was pleased. He has a stall of gas and propane pumps outside used some Pelco ICS310's, I've had good luck with them. Best of health to ya.

VST_Man, wanna see some excellent sample of some LPR check out the CoVi vehicle surveillance solutions: http://www.covitechnologies.com/lpr/

Matrox has Plate recognition software in their tools bundled with their imaging library (MIL)version 8, interfaces with their P-series smart cams but I think the software can integrate with exisiting systems.Maybe you wanna check them out. You can request a 30day evaluation CD. http://www.matrox.com/imaging/products/mil/anpr.pdf and here: http://www.matrox.com/imaging/products/mil/home.cfm

Hello Lumpy, its -4 as I am writing this. I have 6 Ex-10s in service 24/7 better than 5 years old on my property, One failed and was repaired by Extreme (good company, good support) Other brands Ive used for client installs that have stood up well over the years for outdoor/ harsh/frigid service : Sanyo VCC-X400 (no longer in production but some dealers still stock them) Panasonic WV-CP474 now replaced by WV-CP484, I put them in Ganz GH-24 Kits, (heater/dustproof and reliable low current draw 350Ma) and Pelco Camclosure series with heaters. As your budget will dictate and your type of service (quality of picture) beware of prices and specs. No matter what you decide (box or Bullet, or combination of the two) I suggest you buy one cam first and bench it. See if it meets your application. My climate is similar to yours, I can tell you this from hands on over the years, if you want to hang them and walk away with confidence go with Extreme. I have recently used some Wizkid (mid line Extreme) and Nuvico bullets but its too soon to see how reliable they are. In reality Ive seen cheap off the wall IR bullet cams stay alive in sub zero temps just from the ir generated heat but you will be unhappy with the quality and since you are taking the time to research doing it right get field tested proven gear. It pays in the long run.

DELL 8200 250W power ATI 9550, which DVR card would fit in?
Lolo Wolf replied to maruthi_prasad's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Points to consider on the 8200, before you even think of driving a 8cam board, max out your memory, the 8100 uses RDRAM (Rambus) you have to install in pairs, upgrade your processor you can currently go to 3.06 northwood (with hyperthreading) upgrade your power supply.Perhaps another dedicated hard drive for storage. Now consider the costs and crunch the numbers. A decent 8 channel dvr card is going to be worth more than your machine. Ive built a lot of dvrs using open box Dell 8100 and 8200 machines in the past, you can bump them up but the upgrades are not cost effective, you can build a bare bones using top notch gear for less. However your original question.....any PCI card will fit as long as you have a empty slot, the avermedia NV3000 is a 4channel card to obtain 8 channels you will have to stack two of them. here are some links on upgrades and remember Dells use a lot proprietary guts. For your power supply: http://www.pcpower.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=S41D1 for your processor: http://www.powerleap.com/ for your rambus I suggest you shop on line and check prices it is old technology but still in use avoid Ebay for memory buy from a dealer that will warranty the memory (stick with samsung) If you are using the machine for 24/7 dedicated service make sure you have good cooling, the ATI 9550 is ok its fanless but they get hot make sure you have the latest drivers. There are a lot of dealers on this forum check them out for cards. Read through some posts and check their links (sites) A lot of informative people here. Good luck -
Comart DVR Cards (OEM)
Lolo Wolf replied to loop's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Ive seen comart cards bundled with LuxRiot maybe check them out http://luxriot.com/ and this for POS: http://blog.luxriot.com/index.php?s=supports+POS -
Just a thought, you are putting your name and reputation with every install, added to the fact call backs cost you time and money and you warranty your work. Try to use pro/rated gear, equipment that you can count on. Explain to your client the costs vs reliability, I would stay clear of off the shelf gear like the systems sold at big box stores.True a talented tech can make a cheap camera look good and with all the branding and oem gear out there you really have to do your homework, even higher end products can fail but hands on in the field go with products that have a proven trail of service and good dealer/install support. It pays in the long run.

Rory, Ive only recently started to post to this forum but have been reading it for a long time. I enjoy your posts and insights. I look foward to see what you come up with on this software.

Yes the review is dated however the fact that the company removed their customer forum is a flag to me, but your idea of using it for cctv demos is very clever.
