Police Station interrogation room system design + 5 cameras
Lolo Wolf replied to northeastremote's topic in System Design
Dont forget to install a "Attorney Switch" that will interrupt any video and audio signals to insure confidentially during attorney consultations with suspect if they dont change rooms... The chicago police dept and some other large PD depts have a system designed with a switch that interrupts the video and audio signals originating from the interview room while the system continues recording - after the counselor flips the attorney switch, the date and time appear on a black screen, allowing the PD to document the attorney visit while maintaining client confidentiality. A tone sounds in the interview room every 30 seconds to confirm to the attorney that the system remains in the proper mode. May want to disuss this liability with your design team as well the PD client or Local DA. -

Fluke as Kensplace suggested is a good instrument....if you don't have a lot of money, try to find a used 77 model (usa model) I dont think the chinese made ones are as stable but some guys I know swear by em.. (pretty sure the newer low end Fluke line are made in china) my old trusted wavetek meterman 34XR is still doin me good. Then there are times when I wanna use a analog meter instead of a DVM- lookin at the relative amplitude of some varying signal less work on my older eyes than flashing digital numbers..... quess when you grow up wth swingin needles you know your gettin old -

Fas, often trim pots will step to the right (clockwise) approx- off center past 12 o'clock should be about 12v but best to check with your meter dont ever trust a factory setting or any "true" spec on trans outputs.... always check voltage no matter what PS supply you use.... takes no time at all and that way you can figure out your runs- wire lengths to cam spec and v drops good luck with your install....regards -

Isnt that a 24vac 40va (or 50va) input on that box.... 24vac 40va to 2.25amps >5.5 to 12vdc output... there should be a trim pot for adjustable DC output dependent on the VA of the 24 transformer you use. Fuses are rated at 1.0 amp (12VDC - 2.5 Amps total continuous output) Take note of the polarity on the DC side when you hook up.....here is a cheap tester....http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_12496_12496 or you could buy a cheap multi meter at Radioshack or big box home store.... but if you are gonna be doin this kind of work I would suggest that you invest in some quality testers-tools... -
He maybe knockin on the wrong door.....try this http://www.usaid.gov/locations/europe_eurasia/press/success/2007-09-19.html and this http://www.wtec.org/loyola/bid/partners-eng.html There are several grants/funds private and goverment funded (american tax dollars at work) that can be sourced if he is for real. With all our funding often mismanaged...we still remain one of the highest spending tax revenue nation for relief and generosity in the world.

If you dont want to add another card or dont have the space you can also use a USB type input with a dongle to bring in a video source....several on the market....dont recommend for cctv record but for your simple monitor application it will work. -

"Do they allow the pc video source and the camera video source to work at the same time? " Yes the video imput on the card you choose will allow you to size a view window on the puter screen you can bring it up or send it to another screen (if you are using dual monitors.) -

You can use a PCI card with or without TV tuner, use the comp/ in on the board (often a rca input, get adapter bnc to rca) or you can get a board like http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_impactvcb.html order with BNC or just get a budget cctv capture card and use only for monitor....if you dont want to record. You can also modulate camera through house TV sys (asign a channel... if it is digital box there are work arounds) and with a computer TV card you can view the camera on the computer as well the tvs throughout the house. The ATI will work ....there are several TV cards on the market most have a comp in and a Svideo imput....you can switch between sources but not use all at the same time. The performance of the card will be dependent on the speed and build of the computer...more memory. chip etc... -
sounds like you are good to go......wouldnt worry bout a heater for that... get that conduit in there and call it a day....good luck

Hello Cocacola, the box I see has no visible screw or threaded fit for cover...just curious is that cover snap fit? Does it have a gasket? Perhaps a channel or seal on the interior face plate? Any way if its rated outdoor as you say it should be OK. Using the side entry knockouts will keep water from collecting and pooling on top of your cable entry. (interesting.. on the rake of those joints tight to the brick) Regards
-
Noticed you didnt use outdoor rated Cat...might want to consider running some conduit up to that box as well (unless that is temp)...may want to use gel-filled connector in place of that screw block too, better contact, also good idea to use your side entry knockouts to your cams than the top....form a drip loop .... glad your cameras are working well for you.

Gate intercom with security camera and phone integration
Lolo Wolf replied to robca's topic in System Design
Rob, - side note- when you build the enclosure/box, flush mounted as you stated rember to form a drip edge on the top to prevent water egress, there will always be the possibilty of wind driven moisture but a drip edge will help to min the rain/snow accumulation. (Seattle: you guys get a lot of rain.) -

Rob, Ive used the V-1204A from Marshall Electronics for builds http://www.mars-cam.com/optical.html If you want to use color they have some as well. KT&C http://www.ktncusa.com/ also have some board cams, there are a lot of board cams some encased, various specs. Ive never used a D/N one, although I think Ganz http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/cams/Board/brdindex.html has one....your cam choice really will depend on the avalible lighting as well the size of your enclosure, if you decide on the Dorbell Fon you may want to consider using a balun since you will be pulling cat to the door station anyway, I find its a good idea to pull a spare along with it, just in case later you want to future devices or need to service a failed connect. The Marshall gear Ive used has been fairly consistent, used some of their mini TFT & megapixel screens and the V-LCD4 setup monitor I use has held up very well. Good luck Regards -
"like a great Commandant once stated; "you can be part of the solution or part of the problem, which are you?" (the commonly paraphrased version of the original quote: "What we're saying today is that you're either part of the solution, or you're part of the problem.." by Eldridge Cleaver 1935-98, founder member and information minister of the Black Panthers, American political activist group, in a speech in 1968). Historically, and on literary record Eldridge Cleaver is given credit for the saying "You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem". In actuality it was his wife Kathleen who came up with it the night before Eldridge spoke it. Resource: The Oxford Dictionary of Modern Quotations.... History break.... I thought I heard that saying before...... I quess the Commandant did too.
