Thanks to everyone for all the replies. I took your advice and plumbed for the 1000TVL cameras. I also bought the cheaper 700 TVL cameras for a friend who didn't want to spend the extra cash. I put them side by side on my system and his 700TVL CCD Camera was not as good as my 1000TVL CMOS Camera so all in all a good result and I am pleased I took your advice and went for the better cameras. Cheers

Hi Guys I am looking at getting a WD1 capable DVR but I cant seem to find any solid information on my question which is: If i get the said DVR is it worth buying cameras over 700TVL and if not why are they making 800 and 1000 TVL cameras. I know the quality of sensor and chipset etc can make a much bigger difference but assuming all those were equal, then is it worth getting anything over 700TVL. thanks in advance James

Problem configuring DVR for viewing online
jamesmcuk replied to jugalk1111's topic in Computers/Networking
I think you should make the hotspot and and extender use the same IP address range and SSID and Passcode as the main Dlink router. This should give you seemlees connection over all wifi. Then set you two DVR's to separate IP addresses on the last segment. E.g. 192.68.1.199 and .200 NB: You need to turn off DHCP on the Hotspot Also I would take the dvr out of the DMZ and change the DVR's web port to a number of your choosing rather than 80. So for example you may set DVR 1 to port 3636 and DVR 2 to 3737. Then when you are out of the house you can use a Dynamic IP Service like no-ip.com to access both DVR's via either yourrouterip.no-ip.com:3636 or yourrouterip.no-ip.com:3737 -
Hi Mate No idea myself with regard t your question but I did a little google and found this http://phoboslab.org/log/2013/09/html5-live-video-streaming-via-websockets Maybe it will help? Let us know James

Hi Mate, I have never used this set up but this is usually a firewall issue on the router. You need to find out which port the software (in this case the mobile app) uses to access the DVR this is sometimes port 37777. Once you have this you can either port forward port 37777 to the IP address of the DVR or you can set the DVR to be in the DMZ of the network (not recommended). You can normally access the DVR via the web service because that will use port 80 which is by default not blocked on most routers because it is the port that browsers such as Internet Explorer use to access websites. I know your setup is not supposed to need the above but it has to be worth a try in the long run. First I would go in to the router setting and put the DVR IP in to the DMZ of the router. You will see this option if you browse the settings. If this works then you just need to work out which router setting is working against you. You have to also consider that browsing from a computer that is on the same broadband connection may be ok but then using a phone on the mobile phone carriers network would not work due to it being an external connection which would be subject to the firewall of the router. Try the mobile app when connected to the house wifi and then when its not and on its own data connection - if it works when on wifi and not on mobile data then its a router firewall issue most likely. Sorry I cant be more specific but I only just seen your post and wont be on much now and wanted to include as much as i could. Hope you sort it James

Just had a quick look for that software you mention and it may be ports 8000 & 554 that need opening or forwarding. All just a probably because I have never used that kit.

firewall possibly. They firewall will usually allow port 80 (standard webpage port) the software will usually connect on a different port, and you will need to either allow or port forward that port in your router settings.

Thank you for the Reply. So the 960 spec of a DVR is sort of a reflection of the TVL it can record? I was going to get cameras with a sony effio-e http://www.icctvuk.co.uk/cctv-camera-dome-700tvl-sony-ccd-varifocal-2-8-12mm/ but do you think there would be a better camera for this DVR http://www.icctvuk.co.uk/cctv-recorder-dvr-8-channel-dvr-hikvision-7208hwi-sh-960h-full-wd1/ on this site? Many thanks James
