200 feet of cable is about 60m, rg59 will do 200m before signal needs boosting. Nothing wrong with using bnc crimp connectors this is the industry standard. You can buy crimp tools on ebay relatively cheaply as well as rg59 bnc crimps. your last instal could be down to many factors including possible earth loops not necessarily the cable. Earth loops are caused by different earth potential between the main control unit earth and the camera earth- by isolating the camera earth using nylon screws/mounting plates to hold the camera in the housing results in the co-ax earthing the camera when connected to the control unit thus removing the issue of earth loops.

I would go down the road of a proper IP type system and build up on it from initially just viewing cameras from your PC to then recording with a small NVR. This way you can also get the wireless cameras from the far buildings onto the IP system quite easily. This will save you money from doing the job twice.

Get the Trainees supervisor to look into it, since the Trainee should be getting Trained- not his fault if he's not yet qualified. break it down into little steps- check if the data that is changed remains set once router is powered off/on. then check if stuff works ok locally before trying remote access.

Interference using cat5 on analog systems

Am I picking you up right that you are not currently using rg59 cable- that you are using the cat5 cable for the video signal- If so:- its a bad idea just to stick a bnc connector straight onto a twisted pair cable at both ends. if you are using the cat 5 for the video transmission you need to have a bnc to twisted pair convertor at each end of the cat 5 cable that you are using- or media convertors to convert from bnc onto ip and back again to bnc using the cat 5 to send the ip signal. Also cat 5 should not be stapled - the staples can crush the wires and increase signal degradation. Addlestone electronics do a lot of Video signal correction kit across twisted pair- you could check out their web page. and google video media convertor- plenty to choose from. -

basically the dvr will communicate using certain ports maybe 1 port for video stream (eg port 4001 and another port for control data eg port 4002)- most routers have most ports blocked thus stopping communications from the outside world- so to get access from the outside world to your dvr you need to know what ports are being used by the dvr-this should be in the manual- then you need to set up some rules within the router set up usually within the firewall section to allow information to and from these ports to be allowed through the router. try basic search on dvr port forwarding on this forum or on google and you should get the idea.

it looks substantial enough to deal with water etc from trailer wheels kicking up water and rainfall. the price is reasonable considering that you are getting 4 off waterproof connectors already made up and cable looks heavy duty suitable for its purpose. try and get the ip rating and check it against ip65/66/67/68 which ranges from splashing water to submersible to 1m - just google ip ratings for details.

looks like you have the latest and only 1 update available as far as I can see from the following page select firmware and it shows a similar file to yours- this is for the 1T byte machine -don't know if it makes any difference if you have a 500gb machine. but you could try downloading from this web page see: http://www.samsungsecurity.co.uk/en/products/digital%20video%20recorders/16%20channel/srd-1630d%201tb.aspx then select firmware tab at bottom of page + manual to double check that you are carrying out update procedure as per manufacturers recommendations.

I would do this in fibre rather than wireless- my preference-less possible issues than wireless - IF cost is not a problem. multimode fibre good to about 5km. check out Siemens kit- pretty good various options for single or twin data ports as well. I have used the 8 video/ dual data modules- but this is from control room to control room using 1 fibre, you would need 5 single TX units for camera end and 5 RX units at the control end - the modules would need to have the data option for your PTZ control. GE do kit as well (7732 model comes to mind) - the Kit is expensive but reliable, obviously lots of other units also available. I would run multiple core fibre from control point out to camera1 -then to 2 then from here 1 branch to 3 then 4 and then another branch from 2 to 5. using an 8 core would give you 3 spares for future expansion. just make sure you get matching fibre and kit ie multimode fibre and multimode TX/RX units or Single mode fibre and single mode TX/RX units. Single mode more expensive can run to 30km + so more expensive. -
sometimes when upgrading firmware from a very old version requires the upgrade to be done in stages. for example say you had 1.3 and current is 3.5 you may need to go from 1.3 to 2.1 then 2.8 then finally 3.5. so the best way if you don't specifically know the required stages is to update every stage until you get to the latest. reason is that the very old firmware may not have an ITEM that the newest is trying to provide an update to= so fails.

its ok to power it off - BUT it should be closed down through the menu system so that the hard drive recording heads don't crash and knacker your disc. you could crash the disc if you just kill the power to the unit without proper shutdown procedure. We come across this with PAT testing in big companies- the sparks /techs don't understand that they can ruin a system by directly pulling out the mains so they can do the PAT testing. you may get away with it once or twice but its just luck eventually luck will run out.

Try getting it to work with a laptop locally - this will let you know that all the active x components etc are enabled and will allow the video to be displayed - instead of a black screen. once this is done -- try connecting with the laptop from a remote location- if you cant connect then you need to look at the ports. and finally try your desktop -if that's what you have since it may have different windows and internet explorer -which will affect web scripts etc running. for help that has worked for no video via remote..see previous posts:- In the past when I have come across web issues like buttons missing etc it has been to do with the browser settings affecting access to scripts and running components etc under the custom security button on internet explorer. on ie11 most are disabled. It seems to block certain parts of the web page from loading. -------------------------- usually when this happens the laptop needs some kind of activex component to allow the video stream to be viewed. generally when you run the viewing app and select the camera a message box would come up saying that a component is required to be installed and it would normally pull it off the connected camera. you could try the web page of the camera manufacturer to see if it can be downloaded and installed on your laptop. some issues also present using windows 7- try an xp machine if using win7 or win8. ------------------------ hi jazzar, you were right, i thought that if activex was installed for one dvr, they all should work. so changed the security settings and then installed the activex again and it works fine now on port 80. thanks for your help.

ok so here's what we did one time- similar scenario busy warehouse and impossible to fit covertly new cameras- client knew what area needed to be observed. so we go in normal working hours and fit cameras around the place EXCEPT where its happening but we run cable route past this area and leave a spare wire to connect up a hidden covert camera within the area later on at night. so we do a regular instal with a twist making it obvious by pointing cameras at the wrong area -NOT where the action is that we wish to catch- then do a night visit to add the covert camera pointing to the area we are suspicious of- this makes it a QUICK visit since all work done during day. IT WORKED, we heard the staff laughing with us that the cameras wont catch anything- BUT THE COVERT CAMERA DID. They were declaring burst industrial sized soap powder boxes and then instead of throwing them away they were filling them up with tobacco products first -then put them in the outside bin area and retrieved later on at night. So maybe something similar could work for you. And you would need to cover the access points for anyone trying to tamper with the power locations etc as you are already aware. regarding prosecuting staff- you will only be able to prosecute for the incidents which you have proof of- you could NOT say because I caught someone this time- they have been responsible for the last 2 or 3 months of missing/stolen/tampered with or whatever incidents since you would need individual evidence support for each incident. You may feel strongly that its the same person but without proof you will only be able to recoup any losses directly with the evidence that you produce. so I think you will have difficulty in chasing any losses already incurred. No evidence = no claim back.

any DVR that has analogue inputs (BNC connectors) will do the job, the bigger the hard drive the longer you can record.

covert cameras can be hidden in wall clocks PIR alarm detectors etc, maybe you could find one that has a built in memory card and just download the footage each night when no one is around- don't know if this is available as a covert device but many cameras have built in memory slots for this type of purpose. that would be minimal instal, we once fitted dvr and psu etc under the bottom shelf ogf shop racking-lasted about 3 months before staff rumbled it by feeling that the shelf was warm due toe heat from the kit- shelf got warm and warmed up the nappies on the shelf- staff picked up nappies -felt they were warm investigated and found the kit. another type is a PINHOLE lens which has an end shaped like a pencil which can be fitted behind a wall placed against a tiny hole, if you have a secure area that would cover the view you are looking for. google covert camera and take your pick. Nothing is fool proof.

have you checked settings for port forwarding that need to be set up in your router so that the router will pass the info on to your dvr instead of blocking it. a quick check on google / youtube for dvr port forwarding should point you in the right direction. you need to know the specific ports for your DVR.

google and you tube- lots of info on terminating cables co-ax cat5, tech info on cable loss video amplifers codecs to change video from 1 type of media to another ie from bnc to twisted pair using BALUN or from bnc to twisted pair using CAT5. anyone wanting info on basic NETWORKING I myself have used online free youtube videos by PROFFESOR MESSER 20minute video bytes and found it Excellent the way he explains stuff- well enough to have an understanding of basics for Video using IP networks. Google - a techies best friend. Good luck.

your camera needs to have this ability in order to activate it via the camera set up menus. if the cameras don't have this consider upgrading your cameras to a model which has WDR as part of its specification.

lockable dvr cabinet. and a UPS - (uninterruptable power supply) in secure cabinets. if power is cut depending on how big the ups battery is as to how long it will continue to record. I am sure there must be some other ways of detecting pilfering of this nature- how have your associates in the industry tackled this - surely its not unique to you, invisible dye etc shows up under uv light- maybe that's old hat- not my area of expertise.

in device manager can you select the problem device - right click select properties then details tab- select hardware lds in top dropdown box. This will give you some information on the device- you can google it and see if you can download the drivers for each item in question, then update drivers and see if device shows ok.
