IVMS 4200 PCNVR
xavier4or replied to Ali-Shahdoost's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I bet you are you running 64-bit os? 16gb+ of memory? Better CPU and memory utilization is an issue with the iVMS 4200 software. I have literally been talking with their tech support on this for the past several weeks. I have a built a pretty high-end server, Xeon processor, 32gb of memory, etc - and it can code/decode 4k content with no issues. But the iVMS 4200 only taps into a small portion of the CPU or memory available. If you look at your task manager and the iVMS 4200 CPU and memory utilization you will see a huge disconnect where iVMS 4200 thinks it is out of system resources - but your task manager shows plenty of CPU and memory still available. I don't think they are updating their PCNVR SW but you might want to try to install their latest iVMS 4200 SW, iVMS-4200 V2.3.0.4 Release Notes Highly improved the decoding capacity for live view and play back under 64 -bit system. It seems better but I have discovered another bug with the camera viewing area gets "clipped" in the 4200 SW. So I have to revert back to an old version - and waiting for the next version to be released. They have agreed to fix the camera "clipping" but we will see... Hope this helps. -
Hi All. Some newbie home networking questions... Everything is working great at home - and I don't expect to see any noticeable performance changes - but I always try to eek out the last bit of performance and hook up everything correctly. Attached is a simplified home network map and some questions: Q1: Should I run Cable Modem directly to Switch first? Q2: For best computer performance, should I hook directly up to Wireless AP or Gigabit Switch? Q3: Should I connect both POE switches directly to Wireless AP? (Vs daisy chain) Q4: Where should I connect the PC NVR (Wireless AP or Switch)? Q5: My PC NVR has 2 gigabit ethernet ports – should I connect each one to a separate switch? Thank you for any help!
-
Thanks Kehvyn! Regarding Q5: Any particular reason why I shouldn't plug both POEs switches to the PCNVR ethernet boths? Would it cause some IP conflict? I realize I won't see any real performance / speed performance.

Graphics card for server
xavier4or replied to woodworth's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not sure if this makes a difference but most Xeon CPUs don't have any GPUs (graphic processing units). I did a quick search and your E31220 doesn't have any... So really depends if your SW and system are CPU, GPU, or limited elsewhere. mkkoskin gave some good areas to start to look at... -
Hikvision substream issue - do I need to enable other ports?
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks MindTwist - Tried that. And tried to relaunch iVMS, reboot, synch with camera, etc - but the quality seems to be still at 5mp quality. Attached is the sub-stream quality specs which I think would be very noticeable difference vs the main stream 5mp quality. Any other suggestions? -
Hikvision substream issue - do I need to enable other ports?
xavier4or posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For performance reason I am trying to downgrade the camera quality on some home computers - and I thought I would use the sub-stream. Within the iVMS 4200 software, I changed the stream type to sub-stream (Device management, double click on each camera) but that doesn't seem to change the stream in the main view window. I verified the lower quality via the camera web interface - main stream vs sub stream in live view - so that is working. Do I need to enable other ports for sub-stream? Or any other thoughts what I am missing? Thanks! -
What size monitor for 8 camera 1080p system?
xavier4or replied to mcman56's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think it will come down to your personal preference and viewing distance. We have 7 5MP cameras and have the camera SW viewer on anywhere from 12.5" (laptop) to 24" external monitor. The 12.5" screen is great is you are sitting in front of the cameras at a work desk but we do like the 24" monitor in the kitchen area so we can view it across the room. -
how to use Hikvision’s iVMS-4500 with Hikvision’s iVMS-4200
xavier4or replied to rak313's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I could be wrong - but I didn't think HK iVMS 4500 interfaced to iVMS 4200 at all. It will show the live feeds via the camera or any recording clips if you have a SD card in the camera. -
So I ordered a "18 Channel Output Port 24V AC 200W CCTV PTC Fuse Distributed Power Distribution Unit" from amazon and it is putting out ~26V to 26.4V on the various ports. Is there an easy way to put additional load (ie hook up something) to either put additional load on the power unit or a way to siphon off ~1V to 2V inline with the cable to the 24v device. Thanks. My alternative is just to return it and order another one that is working properly.

24v power distribution supply putting out 26.4v...
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in Computers/Networking
Ok, I think my 24v power supply is over-supplying the device – but here is where I am at: 1) 24v power supply, 75’ 18-2 AWG = No Joy (flashing red light on device) 2) 24v power supply, 75’ 18-2 AWG + 100’ 18-2 = No Joy (flashing red light on device) a. Note I originally thought I was over-driving the device so added so additional wire to introduce so voltage loss 3) 24v power supply, 25’ 18-2 AWG = Joy for about 5-10 mins (then flashing red light) a. I moved the power supply much closer to the device b. And I am guessing that I am right on the upper edge of the power supply tolerance. Maybe after a few minutes when the transformer is on – there could be additional voltage being supplied? 4) 24v power supply, 25’ 18-2 AWG + 20’ 22-2 AWG = JOY! a. Running strong for 24 hours now. b. I introduce some 22 AWG for additional voltage loss which seemed to be working Thoughts on this? Since it is working – I am not complaining but wasted several hours running the original 75’ 18 AWG from my networking closet to the device. -
24v power distribution supply putting out 26.4v...
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in Computers/Networking
Well I have to say thank you. I wasn't originally thinking about the volt meter accuracy. I had 75' 18 awg cable run from 24v power box to the device. But I was getting power input failure (red flashing light...). Well after a couple of hours of trying to figure out how to decrease the voltage out of the power box - I finally said screw it - let me move the power box much closer (about 20' away). And it works now! I double-checked the power from the power box and from the cable into device (it was still around 26V measured) - but I guess I need a better volt meter. Or maybe it was user error - but I did triple check. Woohoo! -
Has anyone got Hikvision iVMS 4200 v2 working as a PCNVR?
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Fisherman - have you installed and played with both the iVMS 4200 PCNVR and iVMS 4200 v2 Client??? The reason why I ask is both SW packages offer the same functionality but iVMS 4200 v2 client is a later release from Hikvision where they are trying to integrate the PCNVR functionality into the client via the Storage Server module. So to answer your question - no you don't need both "iVMS-4200 PCNVR + Storage Server both loaded on the PC and on the Windows Server.. ?" If you are trying to just use iVMS 4200 v2 - just install the Storage Server module on your windows server. -
Has anyone got Hikvision iVMS 4200 v2 working as a PCNVR?
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I am traveling this week but will post some of the iVMS settings this weekend in case this help you. I know most folks are still using the iVMS PCNVR software since it is easier to get working. But I like iVMS 4200 V2 interface better... -
Has anyone got Hikvision iVMS 4200 v2 working as a PCNVR?
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Fisherman - can you post some snippets of your ivms 4200 v2 settings? I can compare them to mine and see if anything jumps out as being different. I finally got mine the iVMS v2 working as a PCNVR - and love it - but it took several weeks of trial-and-error. So I have hoping from comparing the settings, we might be able to find the issue for you. -
HK Recommended Bitrate? Increase based on bandwidth tool?
xavier4or posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Was playing around with the HK tools and I noticed on the HK bandwidth tool said I should increase my set bitrate from 6144 to 12288. And for all 6 cameras?!? I am nervous this would negatively effect the camera bandwidth since I would be doubling the bitrate. The cameras are Hikvision, 5MP. Thoughts? -
HK Recommended Bitrate? Increase based on bandwidth tool?
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
How can you tell the actual incoming bitrate? I would like to do this as well! No matter where I set bitrate, the actual stream coming from two camera's combined, never exceeds 2,700 -
Recommendation for higher end illuminators (low voltage)

Thanks - I will check Bosch out as well. I'm not concern about the covert / 940nm ability - 850nm is ok for my usage. -
Recommendation for higher end illuminators (low voltage)
xavier4or posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi - I have been searching thru the old post and trying to find any recommendations for camera illuminators... Some requirements: low voltage (12/24V), will be placed outside, and looking for a medium-to-higher end model. I am currently leaning towards the Raytec Vario line: http://www.rayteccctv.com/products/category/vario-low-voltage/0 Any other brands that I should look at? Thanks for any suggestions! -
Here is my current set-up: 6 Hikvision 5MP cameras, 2 with Audio recording (motion detection, 80% sensitivity) Everything Cat 6a hardwire, 1 GB switch 4TB external HDD PCNVR: Dell laptop, 4-gen Core i7, 8gb memory, integrated graphics Situation: Current CPU utilization is around 60-70% (peaks up to 90%+ semi frequently) Current memory utilization is around 40-60% And I have 1 more 5MP camera with Audio recording on order If I move to a server, single or dual CPU, will that significantly reduce the CPU utilization? Thanks!

hikvision iVMS 4200 - access away from home?
xavier4or posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Is there a way i can use my external IP and ports forward to configure my iVMS 4200 for outside the house? Similar usage as iVMS 4500... Has anyone tried this? Thanks! -
Which audio encoding - 6.711 ulaw, 6.711 alaw, or 6.726?
xavier4or replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks 40th floor! I will stick with the G.711u since it seems the best quality level and not care about hard drive space (at least not yet...) -
Which audio encoding - 6.711 ulaw, 6.711 alaw, or 6.726?
xavier4or posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Woo-hoo - just installed my first external mic, Louroe Verifact E. I little trickier since I had to run the 12v DC power and splice into the -S leads from the camera. But which audio encoding should I use - 6.711 ulaw, 6.711 alaw, or 6.726? I googled the various encoding specs but couldn't find really any recommendations on which one I should use. Thanks! -

Suggestions on how to improve night vision on Hikvision?
xavier4or posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi - sorry for the camera setting newbie question. I have been playing with the camera settings but i can't seem to get the "grainy" look out of the night time view. The day time views look great! Not sure if I should be adjusting the sharpness, exposure time, DNR (currently on), etc... Please see attached picture, camera is Hikvision DS-2CD7283F-EIZH. Thank you for any suggestions!
