Dahua vs Hikvision
fixingstill replied to dart73's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Am I right that with the latest firmware, most of the HikVision and Dahua cameras can do motion detect and record to a NAS (via NFS or SMB/CIFS). And should you need to look up any recordings, just run iVMS for HikVision or Smart PSS for Dahua. The cameras will tell the software where the recording is on the LAN and allow you to search to playback. For live viewing, I just use IP Cam Viewer. You would need to change the default port to a unique one for each each so that you can find each cameras from outside world via your router port forwarding, set the DDNS, and make sure your router supports NAT Loopback so that you can also do the live viewing when you are inside the lan. Am I right? Or is that any better way? -
You need a NEW dongle. I tried using the old one. That did not work.

I have all non Dahua cameras. They are no brand. I bought them one by one on ebay. eBay has much better choices and best bangs for the bucks, don't you think? If I can't name each camera, I can't use this NVR. How do u (who don't have all Dahua cameras) use it to search and playback? Print out a lookup chart to tell which channel is which camera? I am about to go back to Geovision 8.60 which is also very buggy and base on an architecture that is old. Anyone tried the new Geovision VMS? It doesn't look popular at all and I don't even see anything about it on ebay and I need to buy another dongle to run it as the old DVR/NVR dongle would not work.

Dahua NVR 4232 + 4x POE ports. Web:3.1.0.5 System Version:3.200.0000.6.R Build Date:2014-11-27 1. How come I can't rename the camera names? It is grayed out. 2. I have an older but expensive 5MP telescoping camera for capturing license plates. It is a IQEye 855 by IQinVision. It is not ONVIF, nor even H.264. It is MJPEG only. I can see the video on VLC player via the RTSP streaming. It is http://root:password@192.168.0.174:10174/now.jpg?snap=spush How do I make it this NVR see this camera?

Except the old non-ONVIF 5MP camera, I am connected to all cameras. Their status are all green. What do you mean names are on the cameras? If so, I can browse into each to change its name? I don't see anywhere to do that.

Which Pan Tilt Camera can really work with Geovision 8590? Via ONVIF protocol, supporting audio recording and pan tilt control? I have tried Wansview NCH-536MW last year, then Dericam H502W this yr, either allows Geovision to record the audio. Someone told me the PT control works but I have not figured out how. Dericam now sells the H503W and their support allowed me to connect to a camera in China but it didn't work well (because maybe connection across is too slow.) Tenvis? Some of those no brand ones on ebay? (rarely those sellers know what ONVIF means.) Or whatever chipset is conformed to the latest ONVIF spec? I dumped all my Geovision cameras and replaced them with ONVIF cameras. Very happy. They are cheaper and best (night vision, higher resolution, shutter speed, etc.) and at last if I can find a PT cameras that geovision can record audio from and control the pan tilt function, it would be ideal. Any comment?

But Xprotect licensing is complicated and the price is a joke.
