    John from Denver

Hello everyone. I just started out here in the Denver Colorado area , well I'm actually down in Parker which is close to Denver. I am so glad I found this forum. There are so many resources here for everything. My thanks go out to the founders of the site. I have a lot of reading to do! Anyway, I have a small team and though our traditional focus is on computers and networking, I have been working on the CCTV business and trying to get clients. It's way more fun and where I hope we will specialize soon. I look forward to sharing what I know and what I have done and using the community for more information. See ya on the boards.. John

    Costco devices

I get calls frequently about these Costco purchased systems, and I will install them. However.. There have been cases where cameras specifically fail altogether. This ends up in me trying to warranty the merchandise. It has happened more than what I would think is normal. Anyone else seen this kind of pattern? Or could it just be a bad batch? Just curious...

    Black/White

A client wants a low-cost camera to cover the back door. We're talking about a low light condition. The thought of black/white TV came up and I was wondering what the technology or rather how B/W has progressed from a technological standpoint. In other words, Although we are tallking about B/W cameras has anyone found that there is a feature "gap" or anything lacking that I should consider. I am looking to get a lower-cost camera in a low-light situation and color is not really a necessity, but a good quality image is. Any specific cameras you can recommend as well? Thanks John

It's an indoor and meant to cover a rear door in a dimly lit area with partial view of the parking lot. All good suggestions by the way. Thanks, JC

They sell Q-See gear and Lorex. I haven't touched the Lorex equipment though. Looks like the same level of stuff. Anyone have experiences with the Lorex gear?

  7. "PC based units can include more usability features but I find a little more likely to crash"-- I completely agree with this. But I wouldn't fear it for other applications.

    Caught a thief

I installed a system in a restaurant back in September. Fortunately the owner agreed with my suggestion for a better quality camera at the registers. And a Dedicated Micros DVR. 3 guys broke in a couple of weeks ago and with the help of the video, they ID'd one guy and caught the others from there. Got a call this morning about it. Pretty good feeling when that happens.

I keep picturing Mayberry for some reason. Maybe the cops are out fishin' It's probably a normal town, I think that in many cases in many cities, this is something that would happen.

That's what I suspected, but I have to admit, many calls have come from these types of systems. What has happened in the past is that I get called out to install one of these, and once I tell the client about my experiences with the equipment, some have opted to purchase a system I am comfortable with. I had one of these shelf system's outdoor cameras completely rust. This was maybe 10 weeks later. In California, in the summer. So in the future, I will probably install if the customer chooses w/o warranty whatsoever, but highly suggest an upgraded system. Anyone else deal with this in this manner? Thanks, John...
