  2. I'm designing a surveillance system for a new home. My design requirements are as follows : 1. 8 channel nvr with option to extend to 16 ch 2. minimise network traffic on router 3. use POE cameras 4. Keep POE switch as separate device from NVR (as recommended on this forum) 5. Option to plug in additional alarm devices to the NVR or camera Here's my question: If my NVR is connected via its LAN connection to my router what do I plug my switch into ? Should I buy an NVR with a few POE ports and plug the switch into that? (Most NVR's seen to have either (i) one LAN port and no other network ports or (ii) the one LAN port with multiple POE ports for cameras.). I'm assuming that to avoid unnecessary traffic on the router l will need to make 2 subnets -one for the surveillance and one for the home / office. If anyone could draw me a network diagram l would be grateful. Regards Stephen (aggierockdoc )
