Do the GE DVMRe CT models allow ports other than 80 to be used for remote monitoring? My ISP blocks port 80 and I usually serve on 8000 or 8080. Also, I do not have a static ip and would need to use a dynamic DNS service provider using my own domain. Can I do this with a DVMRe? Thanks

I would never leave any exposed wire. The camera that I will be mounting allows concealing of the wire through the arm. After it gets through the arm, it's routed inside through a small hole in the mounting bracket. My thinking was that for security and exterior aesthetics of my home, I would rather a single, clean, flush mounted junction box on the inside, rather than a metal conduit routed to a surface mounted exterior junction box.

Thanks for all the info, Scruit! Anyone know of the typical outbound traffic ports that DVR's use?

Does anyone know if any of these makes of DVR's have problems with remote viewing through a Mac web browser, such as Safari? I know Mac won't do ActiveX. I know Everfocus works fine on Macintosh, but want to upgrade and it must work with Safari or Firefox on a Mac. Thanks

Hi all, I ran all of my siamese cable to one location in my basement. This is my "home-run" location (the termination point for the runs from each of the cameras). However, the main monitoring monitor will be on the first floor, so I also ran one coaxial cable from the basement home-run location to where the monitor will be on the first floor. The problem is now that I'm looking into DVR's, the one I want operates as a multiplexer with camera selection buttons on the face of the DVR. My original plan was to place the DVR at my home-run location. However, now I realize that I will have to go down to the basement each time I want to change the cameras on screen. This is a problem because I want camera control on the first floor, but I don't want my home-run to be on the first floor. One of the DVR's I am considering is the Panasonic WJ-HD316A. This DVR has an optional joystick / controller (WV-CU650). Would I be able to use this controller on the first floor to control the DVR in the basement? Is there a better way that you professionals handle this situation? Thanks

What kind of cable should be run between the controller and the dvr? Thanks

GE, Bosch, Panasonic DVRs and Macintosh Compatibility
moe replied to moe's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Sorry, I didn't meant to sound condescending. I understand and thanks for your insight, Rory. Since you seem to be big on the GE / Kalatel model DVRs (from what I read), would you know of an ip that GE puts out for a live demo? I would love to see the interface. I found http://67.92.108.120 , but that doesn't seem to be up. I'm still debating between a Panasonic WJ-HD316A and a GE DVMRe-16CT. Thanks -

Thanks, but this sounds awfully sloppy and too much work. -

Thanks, I've tried that IE plugin for various DVR demos online and it doesn't work. -
Is it bad to have a outdoor IR camera where there are sometimes lights on and hence not complete darkness? Thanks

What's better a gold plated brass center pin, or a gold plated copper pin? I would guess the copper is better. Anything else I should look for? Thanks -
I've decided to go with an Altronix power supply. The problem is I went on their web site and the amount models to choose from is overwhelming to say the least. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. It's for a basic home system with some Panasonic cameras. 5-6 cameras Mostly all 12 vdc, but I may possibly need 24v Thank you.

How would I plug one of these into a UPS? Use lamp cord and screw on a plug adapter? -

I should use an Automatic Voltage Regulator on the stand alone 24VAC plugin transformer? I would really like battery backup on these too. I'm wondering now if it would be more cost feasible to use all stand alone plugin transformers on one UPS. -

This is nice, but I only have 5 cameras. What do you think about the ALTV1224I ? http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=ALTV1224I -
Help with Altronix Power Supply Selection
moe replied to moe's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks. One more thing...I ran 18 gauge wire (red/black) and the camera says if I'm using 24vac, I need to connect the ground wire. Did I run the wrong cable, or can I just ground to the junction box? Can 18 gauge handle 24vac? -
Help with Altronix Power Supply Selection

Thanks for your fast response. It will be a wall mount. Also, I may need 24vac for only one camera, if I possibly need to use the optional heater for the outdoor panasonic WV-CW484. If a camera says it works from 14F - 122F and we only have a few 14F or below days a year, do I need to use the optional heater? EDIT: I think I'm definitely going to go with the optional heater. So this means I will need 24vac for at least one of the cameras. Should I purchase a 24vac Altronix power supply and step down the other 12vdc cameras? Also, how exactly do you "step down" the 24vac to 12vdc? -
I'm having trouble determining the best placement for a front door dome camera. It will be a Panasonic WV-CW484S. See attached sketch. The problem is that I have two wall lighting fixtures on each side of the door. The fixtures extend off the wall about 6 inches and I'm worried that the light will wash out the camera picture. I'm not sure whether I should put the camera below these lights, or above. I ONLY have 6 inches in between the light fixture and the door. Another possibility is placing the camera directly above the front door. Would this be better? FYI there is a small landing in front of the door with about 10 steps below. I would like the camera to get some of those steps in its view. (Sorry for the jpg being the wrong side up. Also, the rectangular looking thingies with the ovals inside of them are the light fixtures. The circles with the X's are possible camera locations. I am NOT limited to these locations.) Thanks

Anyone have any experience or opinion on cameras from Advanced Surveillance Equipment?

Well, I don't actually have the camera in hand yet, but everywhere I look that sells the camera doesn't offer me the choice between Normal or Hybrid? I don't even know what that means? Here is the link from the manufacturer http://www.cnbtec.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=339 You're right. It does come with a connector with a female bnc. So I guess this means I will have to have a break in the line.

Its a CNB BE4815NVR. Below is from the manual. I'm unsure on which power supply I should use? Also, I've never seen two wires for the video. How do I make this connection? I'd prefer one straight wire from the camera to the monitor, without any BNC connector split in the wire. Connecting to Power Supply Normal IR LED Type : AC 24V / DC 12V Power - The wire is non-polarized. - Use AC 24V power source or DC 12V power source. Hybrid IR LED Type : DC 12V Power - The wire is polarized. - Use DC 12V power source. - Note: Make sure you are using only the supplied AC adapter. No. Color Normal IR LED Type Hybrid IR LED Type #1 RED DC12V/AC24V(H) DC 12V #2 ORANGE GND/AC24V (N) GND #3 BLACK GND(VIDEO) GND(VIDEO) #4 YELLOW VIDEO OUT VIDEO OUT #5 GREEN Not Used Not Used #6 BROWN Not Used Not Used Thanks

Hi all, I need a camera for remote viewing the outside of a condo. Particularly, to monitor a boat slip that is approximately 100-120 feet away. It's a three story complex and I'm on the third floor, so the camera will be mounted high. I would like a zoom lens to see my slip at times and would like to be able to monitor closer parts of the dock at other times. I don't need to pan and tilt, but would like to zoom remotely, if possible. There are three light posts on this 100 foot stretch of dock, but I assume I would still need some kind of night vision. Since it's a condo complex, I would need it to hold a low profile, yet stand up to strong winds. High picture quality is a must. So, I came up with... EDIT: Since I'm new to the forum, I can't post links yet so... I fould it at ezwatchstore[dot com] and it's called the 200AUTO What do you think? Please give me other suggestions. Thank you

A) 1 analog camera with 1 DVR to be recorded by that same DVR at a vacation home and monitored at a primary home. OR B) 1 IP camera at a vacation home to be monitored and recorded by a DVR at a primary home over the internet. My budget will only allow 1 DVR. I would be willing to use the DVR only for my vacation home (I have 2 cameras at my primary home with no DVR) in order to get the best recording and viewing quality at my remote location. My vacation home is my main priority.
