What would you suggest? Want a good image but don't want to break the bank. Hey Tom, How about checking out this system; http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/laview-laview-8-channel-dvr-video-camera-security-system-lv-kdv2804w1-1tb-english-lv-kdv2804w1-1tb/10303557.aspx?path=ef3940ec82e3b910558b5b09e5c3fc06en02 note: you can buy this system a 100 bucks cheaper at another online site. I have this one and the quality is great in daylight with vibrant colors and I find the night vision is clear and requires very little light. I am very pleased with it. Like any surveillance system that you pay $300-500 bucks you are not going to get great zoom for night vision. But this system is much better then a lot of the other ones at bestbuy or Costco. I have seen some that are pale in comparison to this one. Good Luck mate

Q-See Surveillance System - Should I buy?
TheRock598 replied to slimcubby's topic in Security Cameras
Have you found a system that you like? If not why not look at this system; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16881183042&cm_re=laview-_-81-183-042-_-Product I have this system for over a month now and the cameras are great in daytime and nighttime. I do not know if the q-see system you mentioned with 700 TVL is equal to the 1000 TVL cams in the link above. Maybe google it and compare the difference if you like. I am very pleased with the LaView 8 ch 4 cam system I have. The link above shows the system without a HD. But I have found that buying a WD Purple 1TB HD separate is cheaper than buying same system with HD included. ( Be sure to buy a HD compatable with surveillance systems if you don't want a WD). Installation of HD is simple and the LaView system is easy to setup. Remote live viewing and email alert works great on my iPhone free LaView app. I was not impressed with some of the systems like Q-See and Lorax , etc that were available in stores in my area. I done a lot of searching for months before finally finding a system I liked. Good luck on finding a system to meet your needs. cheers -
I have a LaView 8 ch with 4 cams system that got the 960h 1.3 mp 1000TVL and find the cams to be great. Check them out before you buy a system. I am very pleased with the night vision. You can get them without Hd which is great cause you can buy your preferred drive. like WD purple which is very reliable. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16881183043 Many other online sites sell them also. I have checked out many brands and found LaView to be better quality with the LV-CBA3213 cameras. I have installed several brands with similar specs (but not with 960h cam) for friends and none of them has the quality mine got. I am happy with my system. good luck

Hi All, I have a LaView LV-KDV2804W1 DVR and my router is a Actiontec R1000H fibreOp. I know I am doing something wrong setting up both to communicate properly without interuption, so I am asking here for help. I will explain how I have it setup right now. Right now the only way I can get the email alerts to be sent to my iPhone is to enable DHCP in DVR. (Is there a way to do that within the DVR with DHCP unchecked?) But problem with that is when I get a power bump sometimes the local ip address changes. If I set a 192**** address for the ports then with a power bump it changes and I cannot access the video when away. I cannot access the router when away to find out which ip address it assigned Is it possible to set a static address for the DVR with DHCP still enabled in the router for the other electronics connected? If the answer is yes, can someone please give me a detailed walkthrough on where to enter the info in my Actiontec R1000H router? Greatly appreciate any info on this cheers

Greetings to All, This is my first post here and I hope I have it under the correct subtitle. I just bought my first surveillance system a LaVew LV-KDV2804W1 8 Channel H.264 Level 960H 8CH HD Security DVR System w/ Easy DIY 4 x 1000TVL Infrared Surveillance Cameras (No HDD) I also bought a Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive - OEM I got the HD a day before receiving the security system so I installed the drive in my Windows 8.1 computer and formatted it first with NTFS. The drive works fine. I then installed the WD drive in the system and started it up only to find it did not pick up the installed HD I used the wizard to detect the drive and it attempted to format but came back with abnormal instead of successful. Is this drive compatible with the system or am I missing something? Greatly appreciate any help in this matter cheers

WD HD for Surveillance system
TheRock598 replied to TheRock598's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Just an update on the status of the WD drive. I noticed some days the drive is showing in the dvr and other days it shows 0 MB and cannot detect the drive. So I swapped it out for a WD 500GB drive which has been working for several days now but a bit noisy. Placed the WD 1TB in my computer and works fine. I have purchased a WD Purple 1TB sata3 WD10PURX drive and is being shipped to me now. Maybe the dvr picked up something irregular with the WD10EZEX. cheers -
splitters for surveillance system
TheRock598 replied to TheRock598's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thank you for the replies. Going to check them out. cheers -
Hi All, I have a new system with 8 channel system with 4 cams included and a 4-1 power splitter cable. Actually its 4 leads for the cams and 1 for the dvr and one connector for power supply. So if I wanted to add 4 more cams do the 8-1 power splitter cable come with 9 power leads and one power supply connector? If not then its only 7 for cams and one for dvr right? The pics on the 8-1 only show 8 leads and a power supply connector. thanks

splitters for surveillance system
TheRock598 replied to TheRock598's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks for the reply. My system is a LaView LV-KDV2804W1 I have a Channel Well technology KPL 040F 3.33A +12V that came with the system. If I only bought the 8-1 splitter or even a 4-1 splitter, would that connect to the one of the power leads on the 4-1 splitter I have now? Would that be too much power drain from one lead if I connected only 2 more cams for a total of 6 cam? Maybe I would have to buy another power supply? thanks -
WD HD for Surveillance system
TheRock598 replied to TheRock598's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Awesome it worked! I removed the volume on the WD drive and then placed it in the surveillance system box and it automatically prompted me to format it. It is now showing up as connected to device. Greatly appreciate your help in resolving this issue I had. I was worried that I may have to buy another drive. If only they would state in the specifications that certain drives are recommended, I would have bought the correct drive. I may still buy the proper drive recommended for these type of systems later. cheers -
WD HD for Surveillance system
TheRock598 replied to TheRock598's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thank you for the reply. The reason I formatted it was because I wanted to test the new drive first to see if it worked and I wasn't sure if the surveillance system box would format it. I got the WD drive the day before. I just assumed a 1 TB drive was supposed to be formatted NTFS. Maybe I was wrong. I shall follow your instructions and see if the system picks up the drive then. I will post here with results. cheers
