Everfocus powerplex edr 1600 hd upgrade
antdickens posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have been to see an existing installation today where an everfocus powerplex edr1600 is being used. It currently doesn't have a hard drive installed. Is it simply a matter of plugging in an ide hard drive with it powered down???? If not what is the process of adding a new hard drive? -
Does anybody know of any UK companies who will provide a monitoring service for geovision systems in the UK?

For controlling PTZ cameras do you need top use a GV net card or can you use a rs232 / 485 converter on the com port??

We have several clients who use their mobile phones to view shots from their cameras on, using the gprs service. Most phones can access the jpegs as long as they have a colour screen. Recently some phones have been starting to try get to the main geovision screen which pc's see. has anybody experienced this? The particular cleint is using Vodafone as the network provider on a nokia 6230 My nokia 6230 on O2 goes straight to the log in screen when i enter the dipmap address then once logged in i can select cameras to view. Anybody know a way around it. The client cannot choose jpeg viewer from the screen as it doesn't load correctly on the small phone screen

a battery to power cctv 12 v. cam
antdickens replied to blowrabbit's topic in General Digital Discussion
We use a 12v alarm battery. Lasts ages!! You can run a test screen and the camera fine from it -
Yes that is how we have used it until now. But for some reason now when we tryt access the dipmap or ip address from the phones web menu we are getting to a distorted version of the 'compression selection' pc type screen

is xvision the same as geovision
antdickens posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have received my first geovision card today. It is a GV800-16 card.I received the card in a plain white box with no instructions and a blank cd with xvision software on it. I have not been able to get in touch with their technical department as the sales guy i rang seems to think that xvision is the same as geovision. The card does have a geovision sticker on it and looks the same as on the website. Id mr sales guy telling me the truth that the software is the same and should i use xvision, or is it telling me porkies and i should send it back?? -
From experience we only use wireless is a last resort. The quality suffers even on short distances and you get interference. Wired is always better if you can get the cable where you need it

I have a client who currently uses a pelco dx3100. I was under the impression that pelco where high end. They are certainly pricey. I think the current system has low quality cameras and the diaply is a standard TV. They have asked me to quote for a system with a higher quality image. Would installing better quality cameras and a proper cctv monitor give a good improvement. I am tempted to swap out the cameras and put in a geovision system with a higher frame rate but if the pelco is a good unit i'll recommend they keep it. TIA

That would be great email to info@securitcctv.co.uk Cheers

Have you looked at the pecan pc60hlt? Cables hidden and it has a good strong bracket. -
I have been installing PC based (Geovision) systems for over a year and have generally been very happy with the quality. As we have more and more systems running i am beginning to become concerned about support for these systems and price. I am considering scrapping geo except for certain jobs which need all those features and moving on to installing DVR's. It might take half a day to set up a geo system (built ourselveS) whereas dvr should just work from out of the box. My only concern is whether i can get decent remote veiwing and recording frame rate / quality from a dvr. 1. Do most dvr's require remote playback software to be installed or can you simplay use a browser. 2. Are DVR's significantly more reliable? 3. Any recommendations? Thanks

mobile viewing using 3g??? UK
antdickens posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
HI Whats the best way to give remote access on a mobile. I have tried using HP Ipaq 6340 and the video is ok using wlan but trying to use gprs is very slow and almost unusable. Do any of the new 3G networks have anything that may improve on the situation. I've heard the networks restrict any access to the internet using 3g to force you to use there mini sites! All comments appreciated. -
Has anybody ever managed to get a Vido dome to work with Geovision? The model is au g40 wb27 Any tips?

vido dome with geovision
antdickens replied to antdickens's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I am using a gv-net card. This has a lead which goes from com1 into the card using a rj11 type connector. Does this sound right? I have tried all the protocol settings to no avail -
Did you install the spot monitor software. You can download from www.geovision.com.tw You need to extract either the 8 or 16 dsp folder to your hard drive then run the executable file. This tells the dsp card which cameras to display Hope this helps

I am currently quoting on a system in a large manufacturing plant. They currently have over 150 cameras installed. I am going to install a cabinet with a 16 channel dvr to begin and add key cameras to the system. Then we are going to add more and more until most of the cameras are all connected up. We are going to use fiber to bring the signals back to the system. This is because there are a lot of runs already in and it is there preferred type of cable. My question is if any of you guys have any experience of using rackmounted fiber gear which would allow me to easily convert the fiber into bnc's to go into the dvr.

Wec or Altron any tips for using towers? I am thinking of the Altron 6m fixed column with 2 cameras on the top and an anti climb guard

restart after power loss to camera
antdickens posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Is there any way we can stop the PC automatically restarting when a camera signal is lost. It causes such a problem We have just had a system which has spent the full night resetting itself and now windows wont boot and it looks like we will need to re install so frustrating -
restart after power loss to camera
antdickens replied to antdickens's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
geovision cards on xp pro. If a camera is damaged or fails for whatever reason. In the time between us being notified the system could have already been in its restarting loop and could eventually stop booting
