I currently only install geovision systems but am looking to offer DVR's as an alternative. They seem to be a bit easier to install, its just a box to plug in rather than building up a pc, installing XP and drivers etc. Although I do think Geovision is excellent its daft not to offer dvrs Could you recommend a good DVR to use, if i'd like to adopt a range rather than using lots of different units. The DVR will be from 4 to 16 channel units and have equivalaent quality than geovision, or better but be in the same sort of price range

Upgrading GV-800-4 BNC
antdickens replied to G22's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Does that work? Could you, in theory, take the chip off a GV250-16 and put it in a gv900-4 to make it a 16 port card? -
Just spoke to our dealer and even cards which have been upgraded with the s1 chip for version 6.1 will need a dongle which will have to paid for. No ideas on price or availability yet

Does anyone use remote desktop to maintain their geovision systems remotely. Each time i try i get a timeout message. Works fine with our local system.

I have recently used a few Samsung SHC-721ph day/night cameras and for the money would highly recommend these for most uses. Anybody else tried them?

Yes please, the pdf would be fantastic. Cheers

So what was the resolution in the end. I am having a similar situation. I am upgrading a system and was hoping to use the existing cabling but on closer inspection it is a 4 pin s-video type connector which has power and signal. The cameras are toc-328 http://www.tevicom.co.kr/products/Observation%20System/sub_1_3.htm Is it going to be easier runnnig new cables or trying to make up an end to convert it into seperate power and a bnc?

Best way to add screen on a pc based system
antdickens replied to antdickens's topic in System Design
Thanks for replys, any thoughts on using the svideo port on the card? -
I am looking at ways to add a secondary screen to my pc based system. Here are my thoughts; 1. Use some vga baluns on eihter end of some shielded cat 5 cable taking the feed from the dvi out of the graphics card using an adaptor. 2. Use a second screen which has an svideo input then run a cable from the svideo out of the graphics card to the screen. Not sure about which cable to use and what distances can be acheived. 3. Buy a very long vga lead, seems expensive and would need to drill big holes to pass the connector though. Any better ways??

Has anybody used these vga baluns to send vga down shield utp cat5 cable? are they any good? what distances? What if i needed to go to more than one monitor, how could i share the vga signal from a geo system to multiple monitors around a building?
-
Has anyone used these meters which givbe you a reading of how well the camera is focused. I have been advised to use one instead of the little portable tft screen as they give better results.

Has anybody used the geovision vital signs monitor? My supplier is next to no use but as i understand it i have to buy a keypro dongle which allows me to run the program on a pc. I can then connect my clients geo systems up to the vsm machine over the internet and it will warn me when any of the systems are experiencing problems. Is this correct?
-
thanks for reply, i'll let you know how i get on. could you pm a supplier or post in dealer only section cheers

Just to clarify, i would like to send the vga signal from the geo system, ie the computer monitor view to 3 other TFT computer screens around a building. tia

Do the lights on the back of the GV Net card flash when you click on the move buttons?
-
have you tried adjusting the ptz speed on the geovision pc. It goes from 1 to 5.

Could someone email me or post a link to a jpeg of a screen view showing 16 cameras on screen at once. Thanks in advance Anthony

Thanks, i'd seen that one but i need it at a higher resolution, like a screen shot off a pc actually running it. It is so i can print it out on a page of A4 with out it looking very pixelated. Cheers

Apologies if i am restarting an old debate but ruling moeny out of the equation which cable is best cat5 or coax siamese cable. I would prefer to use cat5 with baluns as i believe it is easier to work with and but what about the quality?

I have some 12volt cameras with 12 volt heaters in the housings which potentially need 2 amps when the heaters are on full Would i be able to use a 12v regulated power supply which has 4 1 amp outputs and pair two of the outputs giving two 2 amp outputs? or is this not recommended Thanks in advance

I am due to install some cameras at a petrol station, one of the considerations is anility to recognise number plates, visually not automatically. I am considering two cameras which have quite a high difference in price. From norbain the vista vpc9432/cm hi res and from Hunt the HTC-65gep with eclipse function Has anybody used any of these cameras and have opninions on them?

Could someone please explain back focus for me. What happens if you don't do it and what do you gain by doing it? Do i need to buy a neutral density filter? So confusing

Any advice for the use of low light / ir for dark areas. I have recently bought a couple of domes with IR's built in, they claim some impressive distances for the IR's but i have learnt to diregard these. The picture is fine during the day but when the light dips the picture gets very 'noisey'. I thought this may be down to the cameras trying to amplify the signal due to the low light so i bought some extra IR illuminators but this did not improve the quality of the picture. I have decided to replace the cameras and i think i am going to use a camera with an IR cut filter. Should this give a nice clear BW image in low light? Also can ex-view cameras see IR light? Thanks

Actually i tell a lie, they where pecan day/night bullets. Anyne else used these. I think they are great

I need some high res cameras for watching factory machinery. They need to give a good picture in low light conditions. Any pointers??
