first off I have installed many HDMI extenders over cat5e, some work very well. But if you want to really impress your client. Use this device for sending to multiple HDMI monitors This unit works by sending the signal down your gigabit network. take a look at this.... you will like it http://www.ebay.ca/itm/351548050673?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=620579601749&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Will Cat6 wowrk better than Cat5e for a 350 foot run?
empak replied to ANiforos's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Looking at the limit of the long run, I once did the outside of a Mall that had a camera run of about 395'. I ran the conduit and placed sealed box at about 125' pulled 23awg copper cat6 for the entire length of the run, left a 4' loop of the cat6 in the box and ran a 16 awg LTV to the box at 125' to run a repeater or small PoE switch if I had problems, first try I connected the PoE camera and it worked with no problems on the 400' run. The repeater was never used. I checked back a few times, never had a problem with the camera it worked just as good as the other camera connected to the system. The camera that was installed on this run was a Vivotech IP7361 with IR, works fine down to -50c so far, the camera never has needed a reboot in three years. I would think that running the 23awg cat6 gave the advantage over the network length limit of 328 ft empak -
Is there any picture or just horizontal junk? I would try actually flipping the phase with a made up cable of some type. If that is not successful try a BNC ground loop isolator. Could it be a NTSC/PAL problem? empak

Looks like you have someone that does not like you very much....... Your are not going to get anything better from that camera clip. you cant even tell who was walking by on the side. I would suggest reading in the forums and working on your system. its apparent that no night testing was done on your system, when you buy a camera from someone, test it to see if it meets your needs. If you find the camera not picking up the detail needed bring it back to the person that sold it to you and ask for something better, but explain why your bringing it back. maybe they can help you find a better one. to me it looks like That camera would have only worked better at ground level close up for that night shot. empak

I have regained control of DVRs with a unknown manufacturer password before, the master password was not on the list and could not be erased. I often wonder about the ability of the manufacturer to spy on us with dvrs. I know that we do give the dvr a few open ports to play with on most networks. a perfect spy tool, they are everywhere! ever wonder why those dvrs and cards are so cheap..... lol empak

If you are using an eight channel 12 volt power supply, you can adjust the output voltage on the fuse board, If I am using 12 volt and running power on the same cat5 cable you can adjust the output power a bit higher than 13 volts, check voltage at camera side and adjust accordingly, you can also use all four pairs : ie blue/blue white : video, brown orange green for 12volt + and brown white, orange white, green white for 12 volt -, you can also use cat6e 23 awg wire if you are worried about too much voltage drop.

IP Camera Problems
empak replied to Pauley626's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The best upload speed I get in Northern Canada is 450kbs on DSL, I have seen that my friends with cable get higher upload speeds 850 kbs+. When im installing customers DVR, I suggest to them to get the cable for the dvrs internet connection for a better remote view of the dvr. -
IP Camera Network Boosters
empak replied to jackdf's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Would a power line network adapter work in that hotel, could be an option over wireless..... -
I really like words "Everyone seems to cut the foil off" But ? still the same what is the reason "Everyone" removing foil cctv wire has no foil, sat/catv has foil. I just leave it on

Build a birdhouse, paint it up real nice and put a cam in it........ works very well, the bigger the birdhouse..... the more cameras you can fit. i have built one with windows (very light welding filter lens)

I would go for a DSC power 1864 system, I have installed many, it is one of the best systems out there. The systems with the added wireless work well and I have had the batteries last for many years for all alarm units......stay away from the all in one units they offer very limmited security, if you use monitoring {a hammer shuts them down fast}

I am looking for anyone that has had experience running cat5e UTP and splicing it to combine four single UTP runs down one single cat5e? I have been doing this without the use of patch blocks, I just make a fine twist and cut it very short, heat shrink it, box the connection and it seems to work well, do you think I have been losing video quality using this method? Is there a better way of doing this? empak

Try using an active recever, I did a machine shop last year and it had mad power problems. The video cut in/out, rolled and there were humbars. I do admit that I put UTP to the test in there..... lots of splicing and long runs with the cat5e strapped to high voltage conduit and run in cable trays with lots shielded 220v AC . even long runs of 24v AC down the cat5e. the end result was a mess of very bad video. my first thought was to go to an active UTP setup. The ones I have are 12v DC, the thought of running power for each one was not making me happy. I placed the active receivers in first...... and stared in amazement ........ nice clean sharp pictures, with very little interference from the shops electrical wiring, the only thing that made some cameras video twitch was one of the big tig welders, and the shop owner had no problem with that. as the lights dimmed and the radio went blank when it was in use. I would recomend to go acitive, just try the reciever first and then try the transmiter if you need it. empak

Good manufacturers of Height-Strip cameras
empak replied to melisandeneowald's topic in Security Cameras
I just installed one today, Honeywell ExitView I placed it in a CASH STORE, it is a eye real eye sore, the pinhole is at 5'6". Cool thing is that the new guy ive been training for the last 5 months in security stuff was finished his job early, he came to where I was working to see if I need help, he looked at the DVR and could not figure out where the other camera was. (the one in the strip) I have installed two of these for some security company that looks after the contracts for CASH STORE and MONEY STORE (payday loan). The overall image was good, it looked cleaner and sharper then the cheap 600 tvl dome that was sent along with it. empak -
I have set up a few Night Clubs and Lounges that have low lighting, I found that most cameras seem to switch onto low lighting mode and go into B/W , after many replacement camera and lots of homework I have found a Sony 540 TVL chip set that worked well in lower lighting settings, with a small bit of grain but a very good overall color picture. The dome models are UV-LD751IRSH, UV-LD751SH with a 2020 chipset from UVISION Video Technology. they are not ip cameras but you can adjust the cameras lighting curve from color to B/W to meet your needs on the on screen menu, so they might fit your needs. You might also look into cameras by Samsung, I have never tried the Samsung cameras, I have read may good things about how well they work in low lighting conditions. empak

Can I control a WV-CW964 using Pelco D Protocol
empak replied to mypont2's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I have controlled the Panasonic smart domes with the Pelco D protocol. It did not work very well for me, as it was hard to setup without the controller, I had it on a Digital Watchdog DVR. There was no Panasonic protocol listed on this DVR, I ended up getting the controller from Panasonic just for the setup and moved it back to the dvr's Pelco protocol. (it was not part of the system quote... so now it sits in a box waiting for the next time i need it, kind of a expensive learning exp.... if you phone tech support, they will give you the dip switch settings to make it work with Pelco D..... tell them that you have no other option but to use Pelco. also ask them if there is a way of getting into the setup mode using that code. empak -
You did not state if the systems were active or passive baluns, I have found that Interference ground loops are more comon on passive systems running 12v DC,over the ones with 24vAC, even the AC systems can be a victim of the loop or hum bar. Interference is the addition (superposition) of two or more waves that results in a new wave pattern. Cable path seems to play a big part in this, wireing runs that are close to large AC runs, AC Motors and lighting balast. try turning off all the power in the building if you can, execpt for the video eqipment, if you still have a loop its your equipment, if not turn the breakers on one by one at see what causes your interference loop. I always have a four way Acitve receive Balun to test to signal on, most cases it seems to remove the humbar and bad video from the loop.

Cold Temp Experience Needed (I'm talking Canada cold!)
empak replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in Security Cameras
I have found that most heated enclosures, IR, bullet and PTZ cameras work well in cold weather, the only problem that I have found is the loss of power and powering up a -40c (-40f) camera, it seems that you run a small chance of causing damage to the camera, I would think the same thing about heated types, unless the heater would be on long before the camera is turned on. extreme cold causes molecular shrinkage in wires and other electronic components, somtimes taking them way out of spec. So the main rule for extreme cold weather on cameras is get it running before is gets cold and it will stay running. I would also recommend using IP 65 or better based cameras in places that have extreme temperature changes (ie walk in freezer) do to moisture problems. -
You could not have given a better description, cctv_down_under. That is about the same experience I have had with importing. If you found a good company and ordered 200 cameras they would have your custom order ready in less than 7 days, now if only I could install them that fast! When buying from China you pay in USD and I live in Canada, with the dollar so high right now... It sure seems like a deal that’s hard to pass up. I do live by the rule that it is more cost effective to do a job right the first time. Using a high quality camera that costs more from a brand name can be a better deal in the long run. If I have to go out of my way to go back to replace a failed camera(s), cheap cameras can cost more than the low purchase price

Remote Viewing and recoring Using the Satellite Connectivity
empak replied to shahabali's topic in System Design
What is the type of satellite uplink Ku Band or KA Band? I work on different satellite systems as an on call service technician for remote sites of telesat of Canada, I have setup a few DVRs over satellite network links, you will never have good results with the lowest subscriber packages with low upload speeds. -
I have had days that I wished I had run coax cable instead; the picture did not look right running the cat5e and baluns. I have had weird problems running 12volts down the cat5e and balun. The Voltage was good but the camera sure did not like it, this happened two different times. Can you run active on short camera runs?

i argee, get a high powered laser pointer and play with the cameras, im not sure if you can damage the image sensor on the camera, and i dont think it is illegal to do if you do it from your yard, the cameras are not suposed to be pointing in your yard, just dont point it at windows or people. remember to smile while doing it! next time you are in court, demand they mak him install camera with pivacy masking.....lol
