    BNC video issue

I prefer compression bnc connectors over crimp or screw on type bnc's.

    CCTV Cable

Hard to say .depends on the condition and quality of your old cable and the quality of the baluns If upgrading to an ip system is part of your future plans , then rewiring with cat 5 is probably the way to go . If your upgrading your wiring to cat 5 with baluns because u feel it will help with "Picture quality" then cat5 May not be an ideal solution .you can buy baluns from $5 a pair to over $50 each .some work great ,some don't ! Some last , some don't ! And they add up quickly ! Probably the most cost effective way to upgrade your cabling for your existing system is to purchase a 500' spool of good quality rg59 siamese cable ,a bnc compression tool ,an rg59 stripper ,bnc compression Ends and screw on power plugs .under $100 .then you can replace all your cables with the cable your camera's We're designed to use .now you will have the best image quality your system can deliver . If you don't want to Buy the tools and install the compression ends ,most supply houses will make you cables to length .just make sure you ask for real rg59 siamese cable (solid copper is better than copper clad) and not the pre-made junk cables that you are probably trying to replace.
  6. Probably a good idea to post camera specs

    CCTV Cable

Yes but you will need to install baluns on both ends of the cat 5 for each camera .
  8. Higher is great for general observation but that always makes facial recognition More difficult due to the perp wearing a hat ,hoodie ,or just looking down . ,I like to capture facial recognition at choke points like doorways .so I generally Focus on doorways first with vulnerable windows behind . One common mistake is that people try to do too much with 1 camera . For most residential sites I generally like to use 3 cams in the front ,1 on each Side and 2 in the back I would recommend running wires or string to every potential camera location and Label it at the nvr end .wiring is cheap at this stage of construction .leave it coiled up in the soffit or in a plastic low voltage box in the wall or ceiling . Another great investment to consider that will help your surveillance system Out tremendously is proper exterior illumination .I know that your camera's have IR but good lighting will help much more .now is the time while still Under construction .talk to the builder or electrical contractor . motion detection or dusk to dawn led's will save on electric . I find that flood lights up high work way better than a pole light in the yard creating backlight issues .

    Speco Cams & DVR

That sounds like a good plan . All the best , Steve

    Speco Cams & DVR

960h is the highest resolution . If you want to see the difference between 960h and 1080p ,search youtube university . Speco products are historically way overpriced .those cams are about $185 each . That's more than double the price of most tvi cams .if you can't return the dvr then I would return the cams and look around for 1080p ip cams .you should be Able to find some cheaper than $185 . If the equipment was purchased together at the same supply house , I would return everything and shop elsewhere .anybody that has been in this business for 5 minutes knows that you don't sell hd-tvi cams with a 960h & ip dvr to use the 960h output of a hi-def camera . If the supplier won't refund or at least exchange for the proper equipment , I would call the credit card co. and let them get the refund !!! You could get a hikvision turbo hd-tvI dvr # ds-7308hqhi or a ds-7316hqhi cheaper than the speco dvr . And hikvision motorized zoom varifocal camera's cheaper than the speco cams .

    BNC video issue

Cables may have been damaged by sheet rock crew . If you didn't fasten the cables that you ran to any beams , Then you have another option . Pick up a 500' spool of real rg59 siamese cable and tape it to your existing wires .now use your existing wires to pull the new cable in place .then Install some new compression bnc's and power plugs and your done . If you don't want to buy the spool and compression tool ,you can go to a local cctv-cameras supply house and have them make you real siamese cables any size . Then take advantage of amazons return dept.

    Speco Cams & DVR

That is exactly correct . I'm just not sure why you have a new hybrid 960h & ip dvr And you have 1080p hd-tvi camera's ? To use the hi-def capabilities of your new dvr up to 5mp , you need to get ip camera's. Hd-tvi camera's will not work At all with your dvr unless they also have a 960h output as Your camera's have . The real issue is that you could have bought 960h camera's With the same video quality as yours for less than 1/2 the price . I would suggest either returning the dvr for an hd-tvi Hybrid . Or returning the tvi camera's for either megapixel ip cams or 960h cams . In the long run ,hd-tvi will give you clear hi-def video and be Much less expensive .Hd-tvi camera's are generally not much more expensive than 960h cams if at all .

Please follow the attached link and read my 2 posts in that thread .thanks . viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51070
  15. You can't go wrong with either an hd-tvi or hd-cvi tribrid hvr. If you want hd-cvi, then you have to look for dahua .if you want Hd-tvi then you can go with any manufacturer but hikvision is Probably the brand to go with .alot of hd-tvi manufacturers sell Hikvision equipment that has been rebranded with their name on it . Check out hikvisions ds-7200hqhi or ds-7300hqhi series hvr's. When it comes to camera's, I would look towards getting varifocal's. This will eliminate having to choose a proper focal length lens for Each camera location .it just makes it easier for newbies and diy ers. Stay away from all in one box systems .they seem like a better deal but in the long run the are not !!! Here is a link to why I don't recommend Them . viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51070 Please read my 2 posts in that thread .

    Upgrading my system

Windows 10 ,specifically Microsoft edge which is the new version of Internet explorer does not play well sometimes with dvr's. I had a lot of problems connecting to several customers dvr's with my new laptop . I'm not super tech saavy when it comes to Internet stuff .I do know that you can still use Internet Explorer instead of Microsoft edge by opening up edge ,then click on the drop down menu on the top right and click on "open with Internet explorer" and that solved my problem .someone recently posted that you can also change your browser from edge time IE by pressing f12 on your keyboard. I have not tried this yet .

    DVR Motion detect problem

Some camera's have to have motion detection turned on in the on screen camera menu . So here is another silly question. Did you turn motion detection on On each camera ?

    system upgrade time

Hikvisions remote access app is called ivms 4500. It has worked flawlessly for me .it also gives you Remote access to almost every setting . I like dahua's equipment too and I like the remote Viewing app gdmss better than hikvisions for not so tech saavy customers .it's just a little easier to use but it doesn't give you access to everything remotely . Sometimes this is a good thing .i also like how easy It is to view several different dvr's camera's at once On the same screen with the dahua app .i would think This is possible with ivms 4500 but I haven't tried yet . You could use a ds7316hqhi for your new cams and a Ds7216hghi for your existing cams.the ds7316hqhi is More robust than the 7332 or the 7216 .

Looking for Home Video System on Long Island.

Hd-sdi technology that Brian6 recommended is old technology that is on the way out ! It was great technology but many supply houses are not restocking hd-sdi equipment and many manufacturers have stopped making it too . The newest hi def equipment is hd-tvi , hd-cvi , and ahd . This new equipment is less expensive than hd-sdi . There other hi def option is an IP system but that technology Is generally much more expensive than hd-sdi . You should have no problems with budget for an hd-tvi or hd-cvi system

Looking for Home Video System on Long Island.

Hey gabelman, I'm from long island too . Check out my two posts in this thread link viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51070 I explain some of the bad about all in one box type systems . I use a supply house in Ronkonkoma called canal alarms . Chris at the counter is very knowledgeable. They are an authorized Reseller of many popular brands .they have a lot of stuff on display In the showroom ,and I can't find better prices anywhere local .their website is 123securityproducts.com .you can research dvr and camera Specs and check out the learning center on their site too . You didn't say how many camera's you were considering for each Residence but I would recommend at least an 8 channel dvr .most average sized homes on long island need at least 6 camera's for decent coverage . Hikvision makes very good equipment .the ds-7208hqhi & ds-7308hqhi Dvr's are worth considering . Check out the link I posted about the bad side of all in one box systems , Then look around the website . Come back and ask more questions or feel free to send me a pm .I am Happy to help you any way I can with dvr & camera selection , design , and installation questions .

    Optimizing camera image settings

Glad to hear it's better . Just a little more info for you or anyone else . They now make solar powered exterior led lighting with motion detection . No electrician needed .not sure how long the battery lasts or how bright They are but when settings don't help enough ,more light will especially When properly located
  24. Maybe your dvr's both came with bad batteries in them
  25. Yesterday i installed 4 non hikvision 1080p motorized varifocal tvi camera on a hikvision 7308 dvr and 1 camera image was pixelated like yours is . I searched through the on screen camera settings and found the zoom Setting was turned almost halfway up .I lowered it all the way down and The image was perfect .I don't know why 1 of the 4 camera's had the zoom Setting different from the others . Also on the 7308(not sure on 7208) there is a setting somewhere for the specific channel your viewing,"clear ,fluent ,balanced & full .try clear
