    system upgrade time

If you decide to go with an hd-tvi or hd-cvi hvr , Both will work with your old camera's but as far as new camera's go , you will need to purchase camera's to match the format of your new hvr . So if you purchase the hd-tvi tribrid hvr , your new camera's must also be hd-tvi camera's or compatible Ip camera's. Hd-cvi camera's are not compatible with hd-tvi dvr's . And hd-tvi camera's are not compatible with hd-cvi dvr's. I just checked the hikvision website to double check the Specs and when you click on the spring 2016 catalog pdf You get the 2015 fall/winter catalog .I don't know why they put the last catalog back up there .

    system upgrade time

I am not familiar with computer based systems and the costs involved upgrading your existing system vs purchasing a new hybrid system but A 32 channel hd-tvi or hd-cvi tribrid hvr sounds like it would be a good choice .you can still use your 12 old camera's and wiring and add 20 new camera's up to 1080p .you can swap out old cams with new 1080p camera's at "key" locations where detail and facial recognition are important and relocate old camera's to less important locations while reusing your existing wiring . Cvi & tvi camera's are so cheap you may not want to reuse your old cams ! You get plenty of storage with up to 4 x6tb hd's on the hikvision and 8 x4tb on the dahua .plus external storage if needed . Check out this hikvision hd-tvi tribridhvr http://overseas.hikvision.com/us/Products_1_10662_i18376.html The hikvision specs are not accurate or up to date when you view them under the products pages but if you go to the hikvision home page and download the spring catalog , those specs are more accurate and current. Or this hd-cvi tribrid from dahua http://www.dahuasecurity.com/en/us/pro_details.php?pid=1004

Audio problems with my Dahua DVR

I have installed 2 dahua dvr's with audio .1 hd-cvi and 1 hd-sdi .both work this way , Rca audio input 1 will only play audio on camera channel 1 . Rca audio input 2 will only play audio on camera channel 2 , 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 unless something is different with your dvr .that's why your dvr model # would help . The microphone you have may not have a pre-amp so it will only output a line voltage or a very low weak signal which is why you only hear very low audio .you probably need a pre-amp like jeromephone suggested. Audio is a fragile signal that is easily compromised by stray electrical induction .you should use a shielded rca cable front the mic to the dvr . Also , if your mic is hooked to rca audio input 1 and you are looking at camera 1 .don't forget to click on the little microphone icon on the bottom of the page . Also make sure the little speaker icon does not have an X thru it and the volume is turned up on your monitor .

HIKVISION turbo hd, anybody installed them yet?

Hikvisions 7300 & 9000 series hd-tvi hvr's record up to 30 fps @1080p . The 7200 series will record up to 30 fps @720p & 15fps @ 1080p . On the hikvision website you can find the spring catalog with all the Current specs for their complete product line .it's on the home page on the right side not far down the page . If you are on the hikvision site and looking at the products pages and not the spring catalog ,and you click on the specs of the 7300 series hvr ,the specs will not match the spring catalog specs .this made me call hikvision .the spring catalog is current and I have found those specs to be correct as I have installed a few 7308's & 7316's since and they both record up to 30 fps @ 1080p .
  6. Wireless is still not 100% reliable yet You can pick up a hikvision ds7204 hqhi hd-tvi Hybrid hvr for about $125 and a 720p or 1080p camera from $40-$80 .the dvr can be set for an audible alarm or email when motion is detected. Like daryl said , motion detection is not that precise And you will get alarms every time a bird or bug flies Thru the camera's view . I'm not sure why you would want such a small monitor ? The hikvision hvr can display on any size monitor new or Old that has an hdmi , vga , or coax type input .

    Advice on system purchase

Check out the hikvision and dahua websites . Both companies make excellent quality equipment. I would find a local supply house that is an authorized reseller of these brands .you can see the products there , Ask questions , get professional advice , and easy returns . Isn't that what we all want from an investment like this ! the real stuff is worth the minimal added expense . Ip systems tend to be pricey for the average Joe. If you find these ip systems are more than you want to spend and you can settle for 2mp 1080p camera's, Then the same 2 manufacturers make hd-tvi & hd-cvi Systems that are considerably less expensive and give you a big bang for your buck ! I would stay away from the all in one box systems
  9. If you decide to make the cables yourself , b4 you insert the bnc compression ends onto the siamese cable , make sure that every single strand of the copper shielding is pulled back away from the core (stinger) .one single strand of the shielding touching the stinger will cause all kinds of trouble ! Good luck !
  10. If you want to prove to yourself that the trouble is in your wiring , Switch a camera from one of the short cable runs with the camera on the longest cable run and see what happens .(this is free) if the properly working camera that WAS on the short run and is NOW on the long starts to have trouble, then you proved the trouble is in the wiring . If the problem follows the camera to its new location , then it's the camera . The cables that come with the all in one box systems are generally junk . If you prove the problem is your cableing , I would find a local supply house and have them make you replacement cables with real rg59 siamese cable . Or you can purchase a 500' spool of siamese cable for about $55 and the compression tool and stripper for about $30 and build your own To save some time and headache , if/when you replace your wiring , attach the new cable to the old cable and use the old cable as a drag to pull the new cable into position ! Also replace the complete cable run . Splices are bad mmmk !

    Re: Wireless Mouse

Most wireless mouse that I have used have a limited range of 10-25 feet.i have not been able to locate one with an extended range but I have not looked too hard either . If your dvr has an ir remote control then you have another option . Use an ir extender .they come in hardwired and wireless . Install the ir extender receiver in your bedroom and the transmitter in front of the dvr's ir receiver .then use the remote control from your dvr to replace your mouse .here is some info on ir extenders . Good luck ! https://sewelldirect.com/learning-center/choosing-the-right-ir-extender

Can a smart tv access dvr

Thanks again daryl I think this may be more in my friends budget .I don't know if The picture will be better than the bnc output over coax but at least you can view the cams on all the tv's. I did find a modular hdmi cable system but again it was too Expensive for my friend . They do have a few tablets so I may try and link one to the smart tv like tomcctv suggested . I still have not been able to get back to do anything because he Herniated 2 discs in his back and has not been available. I am still wondering how difficult it would be to install the plug in , In the dvr like ak357 said . Ultimately I think I will be running the 100' hdmi cable. It seems to be the cheapest solution for my friend and probably the easiest for his family to use . I will update this thread after I finally get access to his house again but I am still open for any other suggestions or info on how to install The plug in to the dvr . Thanks guys

Can a smart tv access dvr

Sorry for the delay but my customer /friend had some health issues and I have not been able to Go back to his house yet .I will update as soon as possible . I remember coming across a thread here where they were talking about some kind of modulator That you could hook up a dvr output to this modulator thing and hook the modulator to the incoming Catv b4 it splits and then you can view the dvr on a spare tv channel . I'm not sure exactly what it's called but It would have to accept hdmi or the spot output of the dvr And would have to work on directv. I don't know if they make something for this exact application or The cost of this product . Also , is anyone familiar with the quality of this video at the TV display ? Is there differences in quality from brand to brand ? Is there a certain spec to look for with this product besides the obvious 1080p output ,hdmi input and Directv system ? Thanks again to all who replied , Steve

Can a smart tv access dvr

I remembered that my dad has a Samsung uhd 4k smart tv .I just connected it to his wifi . I couldn't find the playstore app or search but it does have a website browser .I entered my Customer's ip address and the hikvision sign in screen came up .for a second I thought I was going to get lucky but after I entered my user name and password it said I needed to Download a Plug in just like daryl said .it didn't say what plug in or how to install it . Dad came home and wanted to watch his tv so that's as far as I got .I will play around With it tonight after he goes to bed . I'm guessing that you can't install a plug in to a smart tv browser or if you can it will not be Compatible . I will try to find the app store later

Can a smart tv access dvr

I am going to try the app store thing first .can't hurt ! I will be going there Wednesday night after dinner . I will post my results He probably won't opt for the hdmi extenders since it Cost more than the dvr . I checked out the hdmi over power briefly and the results were Not too promising .cheapest I found was $250 with iffy reviews . They should make a hdmi cable that has a straight in line plug The diameter of the cable .then you could separate the cable and Push it through a small hole and then reconnect the 2 halves . Or a removable end ! Thanks guys

There is a spare cat5e wire going to tv area . Is it possible to adapt hdmi over cat5e?

Can a smart tv access dvr

Thanks Tom, I'm not familiar with apple tv box but I will Google it and research . I thought Comcast was a catv company . my customer/friend has direct TV for tv and Verizon fios for internet and phone and a Samsung Smart tv that's 2 or 3 years old Thanks ak357 , I don't know what avigilon is but I will Google that too . FYI : I installed a hikvision ds7308hqhi hd-tvi dvr in a closet where his electric , catv, tel ,Internet, directtv All terminate on the back east side of the house and the den tv where he wants to view cams is on the Front west side of the house .I would have to run a 100' hdmi cable exposed around the outside of the house and drill 2 large holes to get the hdmi plug through .customer not too fond of the exposed wire And big hole idea .I have the bnc spot output hooked up to an existing rg6 to the TV but the pic is not very good especially compared to the 1080p picture on the monitor at the dvr .

Can a smart tv access dvr

Thanks daryl. I'm not too savvy with Internet and network stuff .I go as far as port forwarding . Since it appears that these smart tv's come with apps pre-installed, I wonder if you can Install the dvr manufacturer's app like gdmss or ivms4500 and access it that way .

Hd-cvi dvr https://www.123securityproducts.com/ctw-hcvr7104h-v2.html Hd-cvi camera's https://www.123securityproducts.com/products/cameras/cctv-cameras/hd-cameras.html?any_cs_cam_camera_environment=2565&any_cs_cam_lens_focal=2530&product_technology=6412&manufacturer=29 Hd-tvi dvr. https://www.123securityproducts.com/products/recorders/hybrid-cctv-ip/hvr-hardware.html?any_analog_video_channels=1322 Or https://www.123securityproducts.com/products/recorders/analog-cctv/hd-dvr.html?any_analog_video_channels=1322&product_technology=6354 Hd-tvi camera's https://www.123securityproducts.com/products/cameras/cctv-cameras/hd-cameras.html?product_technology=6354&any_cs_cam_camera_environment=2565&any_cs_cam_lens_focal=2530 I'm not telling you to purchase from this supply house .unless you live close to them . Find a local supply house .that's always better, faster, easier in the long run Use the links to get started researching brands , specs , etc The hd-cvi dvr is a dahua dvr rebadged as cantek for this supply house . The point is that dahua makes hd-cvi. Hd-cvi camera's only work with hd-cvi dvr's Hd-tvi camera's only work with hd-tvi dvr's Don't forget about the hard drive ,monitor ,siamese cable , power supply ,bnc connectors ,etc. Yes you will be able to view your camera's on your cell phone ,tablet ,laptop too. You will need to be able to forward some ports in your router to access any dvr remotely. Double your budget and you will have a sweet system that will last .

Need help with custom camera setup

There are several things that you failed to mention . 1.budget 2.how many camera's 3.your technical ability 4.location An ip or network camera system will be the most expensive and require the most technical ability. However it will give you the most options and highest resolution recording available . An hd-tvi dedicated system will be the least expensive and require the least technical ability . However it will only record up to 1080p or 2 megapixel. Still an excellent choice .pretty much Plug and play . Also allows for cable runs up to 1500' . Hikvision makes very good quality ip & hd-tvi equipment I would stay away from the all in one box type systems found in costco, sams, home depot etc . I would also stay away from amazon, ebay, etc. I recommend finding a local supply house or two .they usually sell the real stuff not look alike Black market junk Good luck and don't rush

    Question about cables

I don't know .if have only installed them using solid copper core Rg59 siamese cable . There was a bunch of video around here comparing the different cables and picture quality . Solid copper core rg59 was best for hd-cvi from what I remember . A 1000' spool ,a new compression tool , a new Rg59 stripper , and a handful of bnc compression ends for less than $200 and guaranteed clear beautiful 1080p quality Video with no headaches. Hd-cvi was designed to work over existing rg59 siamese cable .

    Install help (Running wiring)

You can always cut out a block of the spray in foam insulation in the rafter Bay where the wiring will go to the camera .then you may be able to see better what your up against .if your careful and the spray in insulation is fairly new ,you can put the block of insulation back in place and if need be ,seal it in place with some new foam in the can from home depot or lowes .or put conventional insulation where you removed the block of foam .worst case is you can have the spray foam company come back and reapply . Another option is to purchase the fiberglass sticks that screw together .once you make the hole in the soffit ,the sticks are rigid enough and should push right thru the spray in foam .if the distance between the hole in the soffit and the inside of the foam is greater than 3 feet (which i doubt)you can just screw on another section of the fiberglass rods .I use these all the time when working in attics .I usually have 3 sticks attached together and I push the whole length of the stick into the soffit so I don't have to crawl all the way down to the soffit to grab the stick . These fiberglass rods work great in drop ceilings and they glow in the dark .the have them at home depot ,lowes and probably where you bought your wiring supplies . Good luck

    truvision or dahua??

Interlogix/Truvision is a ge/united technologies company and is not a rebranded dahua
  24. Yes definitely !!! I would call your local headquarters and tell them you have video of a suspicious man taking unauthorized photos of your neighborhood and home .it may just be a local real estate person or a criminal .I think being proactive is best and I would not procrastinate. Prevention is always better than dealing with the aftermath . Glad to hear your system is doing its job .
