Bluecherry makes a pretty good Linux VMS. I have three deployments with around 60 cameras (mostly ip but a few analog). We are recording to a NAS to to the large amount of data storage (64 terabytes). I really like how your can use Cronjobs to keep an eye on things and autofs to auto mount the NAS. Our units have had very very little downtime and use off the shelf hardware for easy/low cost repairs/maintenance. I will have to be upfront and say that we don't really use the motion capture feature as we want 24/7 recording. I also think the email alert feature is lacking. It only alerts to camera motion, not camera loss or NAS loss/hardware failures. I've uses scripts/contab to keep an eye on such things but they should be included as part of the software. The windows and Linux clients work well and are easy to use. I've also used Zoneminder. Awesome software but hard to set up and as stated is a CPU hog. I'm will be demoing DW Spectrum IPVMS and am interested in seeing other recommendations!

John, These cost a ton and I don't think they work with remotes but might be what you are looking for. http://www.linearcorp.com/e3emerge/ People also use Raspberry Pi for a DYI linux access control. http://nesit.org/rfpid-raspberry-pi-rfid-door-access-system/

Hello, I have a few Checkpoint 705433 PTZ and I am hoping someone would have a manual or know what protocol they use for PTZ. They are working right now with the controller but we are installing a new hybrid recorder and are wishing we can ditch the controller and go with a software set up. It seems Checkpoint's after the sale service is really lacking. They have no information on their website. I can see why this national chain will no longer use Checkpoint's products... Thank You !

Stay far away from them. They don't offer any help at all and you will be lucky to reach them at all.

I am looking to put togeather a Geovision Hybrid system. I have 16 anolog camers each one would need to be able to do at least 10 FPS plus 4 ACTi IP cameras with room for at least 2 more IP cameras. What card would be the best for me how would I do the software licensing ? Would I be able to record in the maxium resoultion for the IP cameras @ 10 FPS (1280 x 1024) resolution? Maybe a rep could PM with the price infromation ? Thanks, Eric

QNAP VioStor Opinions?
EricPaul replied to ini's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ini, I have used both the Nuuo NVRmini and the VioStor VS 2008. The VioStor seems to be built with a lot better. The Nuuo is plastic and feels fragile. The VioStor has a lot more features and even has SMS support for cell phones. I think the Nuuo software is more easy to use and the set up is much faster. I did have an issue with the VS 2008 not working with ACTi 1231 and 1431 cameras. I have been working with Qnap's tec people to get this issue worked out. You can always send an FTP file with ACTi's cameras to get the jpeg images to your cell phone if needed. Port forwarding is a small pain with the VioStor but that shouldn't be a big deal at all. -

CCTV Customers want Access Control
EricPaul replied to sbbamafan's topic in General Access Control Discussion
I have also used both Keri and Linear with very good luck. Both have had good product support in the past but now Keri will not let me download the software (Keri Doors) for my own system. I gave them a call and they told me I needed to be a dealer or I should contact a dealer. So it looks like I will be moving to another brand in the future. -
Opinions on ACTi 1.3 megapix cameras ?
EricPaul replied to ak357's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes it comes with free software but I am using Aimetis Symphony so I have no idea if it's good. -
The Asus WL500g premiums work very well although I just started using them. I was using the Buffalo WHR HP 54's till they got in their lawsuit. My newest mesh set up is using 9 Asus WL's and has been up for about 3 months with no problems. I did just update all the nodes to the V24 firmware. You can get them online for about $50 each.

Is anyone else using DD wrt firmware on their IP camera networks? I have been using it for about three years with no problems. (small 12-20 camera set ups) If you are setting up small IP cam networks you should look into this firmware. It has VPN and wireless hot spot support.
