  1. Time to put in a new system at work. We've got 29 analogue (non IP) cameras here and have been asked to keep a year's worth of footage (10fps, motion detect). The two options we're looking at are building a server chassis (probably running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials) with 10+ 4Tb drives (non-RAID SATA) and a couple of (Geovision*) cards in it. Other option is a smaller box with the cards in it storing to a (Synology) NAS unit. Former will obviously be a lot cheaper (especially if bays are not hot swap) and have a certain level of upgradability to it. Probably a nicer platform to export footage from. Latter will be marginally easier to increase capacity. Anything else I should be considering here? Thanks in advance! * We've had some Geovision systems in the past. Happy to use again unless someone can suggest why Aver might be a better option.

    Geo Cleaner / Remover Script

Hey there folks! Where did the Geo Remover Script once found at http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=7608 vanish to? Is it still around? I've searched without luck! Cheers, Antony.
  3. GeoVision 8.1.x When dumping I'd like to be able to generate a movie (merge) that's longer than 60 minutes (if you try you get a warning saying it will be ignored). Any tricks for doing this? Cheers, Antony.

Merging more than 60 minutes of footage?

When doing a multiview dump I keep getting Runtime Error! Program: C:\GV800\Viewlog.exe abnormal program termination Any ideas on that one?
  5. I tried to use the above system in motion detect mode many months ago and it kept locking up. I decided to try newer firmware (direct from the EverFocus site) and discovered it wouldn't upload (mismatch error in phase 3). It seems only the firmware from our local vendor can be uploaded (with their custom badging etc). Anyhow, I seem to have missed something with going back to motion detect - as far as I can tell it isn't recording anything any longer. The motion 'M' comes up on each of the cameras but nothing goes to the drive. I've set the motion record period to 1 second. Motion Detect is enabled for each of the cameras. Where / do I need to specify record motion events only? Any advice on motion detection tricks on this machine would be appreciated! Cheers, Antony.
  6. I remembered the trick - you need motion detect AND a schedule enabled where the normal record rate is 0fps and the motion is at Nfps (so the schedule records no "normal" video and only "events"). Such an ugly interface... Lets hope the motion detect holds up better than last time! I still can't work out why the firmware upgrade won't work though... Cheers, Antony.
  7. We've moved to a EDR-1640 (Everfocus?) system. I have it configured to motion record 24/7 with each camera at 4fps with a 1 second record event. However I notice when most (12+ cameras) have a lot of motion that the unit seems to lock up a lot. If I disable the motion record (scheduled or manual record only) the system works fine. Its also fine when there's only a little motion. Copying (archiving) footage via LAN seems remarkably slower than copying footage to a USB flash drive too - that's a little odd isn't it? And finally - can the drives be removed from the machine be mounted / read on a desktop PC (XP) for quicker copying of footage? Cheers, Antony.
  8. Our ancient tape based system is on its last legs so its time to go digital. Requirements * 16 channels (only 13 cameras in use at this point) * Cameras are only B&W * Motion sense * Min 3fps per camera (easy) * Built in CD-R or DVD-R * Reliable, decent warranty & after sales support * Network viewing a bonus * Available locally (Australia) or quickly I've tried stuff like Swann in the past but found it a little low-end in terms of easy of use / reliability. Any advice appreciated! Cheers, Anton.
  9. We have a Swan DVR 4 Net Plus which we've had dramas getting some footage off (see post elsewhere). If I take the HD out and put it in an external USB enclosure we can use Swann's software to "scan" the drive (even though it doesn't mount in XP). The scan is slow and very hard to scroll through the footage to find what you want coupled with the AVI dump seems to be at a much lower quality then the recording itself. Anyone got any ideas as to if its possible to get the raw data off the HD in a usable format? Cheers, Antony.

Footage directly of Swann DVR HD

The problem is the bug doesn't allow me to play (all) the vision back on the DVR - in a nutshell each time there is motion an 'event' get recorded but the system can only show 999 events (or 999 pages). Hence why I'm trying to get it directly off the DVR HD...

New Swann DVR 8 Net; Playback over net??

Is the Swann DVRx-Net series different from the DVRx-Net-Plus series? (I can't find any references to a model without the 'Plus' bit but it might explain why a lot of the older post links end up in 404 Not Found on the Swann site) Cheers, Antony

    Swann DVR4-Net Plus Any good?

We've got a couple of these on commercial premises. The good : * Reliable. Have only had a single case where we had to reboot the box (we couldn't establish a connection via ethernet) * Quality / $ ratio is good (at least here in Australia) * Helpful telephone support The bad : * There seems to be a rather bad 'bug' that we can't solve. We have the systems running in 24/7 motion detect. Everytime there is motion it records 30 seconds of footage cand calls it an 'event'. However the PC software can only review the first 999 events! The unit itself can display 1000 pages of events with each page being about 10 items long (about 22 'days' depending on the HD size / quality) Cheers, Antony.
