  1. I've got six of the same cams... Did you go through the Video/Audio configuration submenu and tweak it up? They come defaulted to lower resolution and bitrate if I remember correctly. Go through the Image submenu too and play wtih Digital Noise Reduction, Smart IR, WDR. Remember too, license plates are highly reflective and are going to wash out at that close range to the strong IR light. You'd have to play with the exposure settings to avoid it, but it will make the rest of the image dark. Smart IR, and WDR might help a bit there. If you are viewing the feed in that window in your screenshot like that.. make sure to click on the 16x9 or 4x3 or even 1x ..not Auto as it usually stretches the image incorrectly. Use 16x9 if you are viewing 1920x1080, use 4x3 if you're using 2048x1536. If you're using 1280x720, you might want to try 1920x1080 if you aren't happy with the image you've got now.
  2. Looks decent... Notice how much more careful UPS handled that box than USPS in the last video? HA! UPS: USPS: SMACK on the concrete. Decoding 2MP video is cpu intensive... 3MP that much more. It's too bad these apps don't harness the power of the GPU in modern graphics cards. They could eat multiple HD streams and not break a sweat. A CUDA enabled app (for nVidia card owners) would be fantastic.

  4. Yeah it does.. 480 would look horrid on a 1080 display full screen.. Rebooting itself? That's not good.. the only time mine did that was when changing the RTSP port.. apparently it needs to reboot for that, but not changing the other ports.
  5. Which NVR model are you using, the 7250? On mine, viewing one channel full screen is definitely in full HD.
  6. I tried to explain that in post #2..maybe I wasn't clear. Using sub streams for thumbnail views just makes sense, beyond four views anyway... at least with typical 1920x1080 displays.
  7. I've been able to change the res/fps of the sub stream, but never the main. AFAIK the app only accesses the sub streams... you are talking about SwannView Plus I assume?

  9. Each camera is always producing two streams of video: main and sub. Main is your high resolution stream (1080p in your case), and the sub is the low res one (320x240 to 704x480 depending what you set it up as). The sub stream is used normally where you don't need the full high res stream, or where it wouldn't be appropriate..like trying to jam the 1080p main stream down a slow pipe like to a cell phone. Or displaying multiple small windows on a single screen. There isn't much point in cramming more than 4 1080p streams on a single 1080p display, most of the data is getting thrown away anyway just trying to fit them all on there.. so why not downgrade the live streams to the sub-stream and save the bandwidth and horsepower on the display hardware. So at least go into your camera settings and set each camera's SUB stream up to say 704x480, with a higher FPS and bit rate. At least your sub stream views will then be better than a crappy 320x240 , low bitrate. ***That is ALL just for live-viewing though... The recorded streams are ALWAYS the main stream (1080p). So when you go to playback, you always see the full high res stream, since that's all that is recorded.
  10. Try to clean the gunk out of the female cat 5 connector... Q-tips and something that'll evaporate and won't leave residue, contact cleaner, rubbing alcohol.
  11. So when you click "Alarm Template" , is there not a list there of templates you can edit? Mine starts with three pre-defined ones you can't edit: All-day Template Weekday Template Alarm Template Then, there are EIGHT that you CAN edit, named: Template 1 ..to Template 8 Click one of those and you can Edit. Fill in when you want to record with the "Scheduled Recording" pen (blue). OR, you can just select and use the All-day template, which is pre-filled for 24 hour recording.
  12. Edit your schedule for those two cameras, change it from "motion" (green colored on mine) to "normal" (blue) for the whole times you want to record constant. You can leave your schedule in place and override it with some "normal" constant recording by using the "Manual Record" main menu button on the NVR. Or, you can just incorporate the constant recording into your regular schedule under the "Record" main menu button.

  14. I know this original post is almost a year old... And I would assume you've found the solution to your URL problem by now... However, for the benefit of the community and those googling for answers.. Swann 1080p cams (which I believe are Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I). The RTSP URL needs to contain the login/password combo, as well as the proper pathname to the video streams: For channel 1, main stream: rtsp://username:password@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:554/PSIA/streaming/channels/101 Where 554 is your RTSP port, and 101 specifies channel 1 main stream. Use 102 for channel 1 sub stream. 201, 202, 301, 302, etc... Something else I've found with the SwannView Plus software, setting the NVR up with P2P connectivity made it very slow to respond to navigation. Turning off P2P, and falling back to good-old IP/domain name & port connectivity solved this, and it is now nice and responsive. Hopefully this post can help someone.
