You might want to take a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12156 What I would do, is set 1 dvr to one port, then set the 2nd dvr to another port on your network. Ex: DVR-1 has local ip of 192.168.0.10 Set that to listen on port 8010 and port forward port 8010 on your router to 192.168.0.10 DVR-2 has local ip of 192.168.0.11 Set that to listen on port 8011 and port forward port 8011 on your router to 192.168.0.11 Now, setup your mobile device or computer OUTSIDE your local network to connect to your public IP or "no-ip" address as say .no-ip.org:8010 (for dvr 1) and .no-ip.org:8011 (for dvr 2) Then do yourself a favor and turn of DMZ on the DVR's IP. You won't be needing that anymore

How to 'tweak' PSS to playback today by default
Liquid_Squelch posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
By Default any file search in PSS defaults to yesterday's date. Is there anyway to default it to look at today's date in the search field and not yesterdays? Every time I search for a video, it is normally for a few hours past, and everytime I search, I always forget to set the date and end up looking at yesterday. Thanks. -
Here's a fun one.....what have you caught on camera?
Liquid_Squelch replied to ocdchris's topic in General Digital Discussion
the IR in that PTZ kicks "ass" My PTZ doesn't have IR built in, and normally my spot lights and other cameras bleed in enough light to see most of the activity on the street, but as any hobbyist knows, there is always room for improvement! One of the next additions to my setup is an IR blaster to cover the street on the side of my house. Thanks again for the videos -
Dahua PSS v4.06 any feed back?
Liquid_Squelch replied to oldEnufToKnowBetter's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I found one website that wanted to charge for access to PSS 4.06 (it is a shame too, because there is a lot of good info on that site) But Google is my friend, and I found PSS 4.06 for free right on the Dahua website. From what I can tell, it is number 6 on this list: http://www.dahuasecurity.com/English/supporttool.aspx?type=3002# I'm downloading it right now and hope to see a file explaining what is new in this minor release. -
Drop Ceiling Camera Mounting
Liquid_Squelch replied to Liquid_Squelch's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to give toggle bolts a try first and see how they hold up. (no pun intended). I think that given the little weight of the cameras, and 3 toggle bolts per cam, these things should stay put for quiet some time. -

That seems like an overkill. I forgot to add that according to the specsheet, the camera only weighs 400g. -
CCTV for your car, what's yours before I order???
Liquid_Squelch replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in General Digital Discussion
I ordered two stand-alone units from here: http://thevideocopilot.com/ They also sell a 'DVR' style solution if you are interested. -
Hi All, Been searching up and down for the documentation that has the proper URL string to look a the RTSP video from an Qvis / Dahua 16 channel DVR. I would like to grab one of my cameras and use ffmpeg to grab an image every minute or so for my weather station page. (maybe even get creative and do a time-lapse video over the last 24 hours). If anyone can pass me the RTSP URL, that would be great. I have a port defined, but just need either the main or sub feed. Thanks

Thank you both.. I got the e-mail, and searched for the website and found the website that is 'banned'. A great write-up over there. Just what I was looking to do too! Thanks again for the help!

Thanks Sean. E-mail sent your way with my order number. I figured I would ask here on the forum before bugging you on e-mail.

Wow - looks like you got lucky on that one! Better to see him lurking around your perimeter than to see his ankles sticking out of your window -

I wish I had audio. I would have loved to heard what my neighbors had to say to the lady that was blocking the driveway. Looks like a few of us are into scanning. I think both the CCTV and Scanning hobby go hand in hand. Always have to know what's going on in the 'hood lol -

I've only had my system online for a year. In that time, I've captured: Someone hitting a stop sign A Verizon worker sleeping in his truck Someone letting their dog crap on my lawn Numerous people using my street as a motel room (think about it) Someone using the street as a bathroom I love my CCTV system Here are two videos, but probably not the two you want to see 7zCa2SZQVWk IjiDl0pcz2w -
Video- telescoping rod for cleaning spider webs
Liquid_Squelch replied to shockwave199's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Nice idea. I get pissed actually watching the spiders create make the webs while I am looking at the video. Just curious as to what you were putting on the lens to keep them off? You mentioned somethign about that in the video. Was that a regular painter's pole? -
I've been trying to capture motion activity on a camera I have on the front and back doors of my house. The problem is that if a shadow moves, or a bug flies into frame, I'm getting "false positives" in my e-mail. Some days, my e-mail account is flooded with images of nothing important. My question is, what do you recommend I use as far as a PIR? I notice some of the PIR sensors are over $100 and I think the price is a bit much. My front door is next to a mailbox and post. I am sure I can mount the PIR low and point it across the walkway instead of down the walk. This way, when someone comes up to my step they are triggered. OR - would the best thing to do is mount something over the eve of the front door opposite my camera (located in the corner) and run it that way? I don't have any type of overhang by the back door, so I will need to get creative with placements. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

Can live video capture be stored to a cloud or other offsite
Liquid_Squelch replied to niceguymr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If you can code using BASH and rent a VPS for $50 you can do off site storage pretty easily. I have the FTP feature on my DVR upload to my VPS. The VPS runs a script that deletes files older than a set number of days so I don't run out of storage. As discussed above, and and easier solution, would be to have an external drive hidden someplace, or a 2nd computer in the house with additional storage and an ftp server. -
Need Replacement DVR ASAP, current model DOA !
Liquid_Squelch posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi All, I have an SOS here. My "nameless" Chinese eBay DVR went toes up overnight. This DVR was purchased from eBay last august and now refuses to boot. I pulled the HD, back panel (with BNC Connectors), front panel and CR2032 battery out. I can not make it beep 3 times if I try and power it up - assuming it means battery is missing. I also swapped out the power supply. The last camera I added was a PTZ camera, and it seemed to work fine until last night. So, my SOS here is - I need a D.264 16 channel DVR that will allow me to watch the system via my Andriod Phone. It needs to have motion sensor, alarm inputs/outputs, RS485, and the ability to e-mail events out (Picture preferred if alarm is tripped). I also need to be able to define the recording length. What would your suggestions be? I spent close to $400 on this door-stop DVR, so I guess I got what I paid for. I need a replacement device as soon as possible. Any thoughts / suggestions as to what I should replace it with? I am now running my old Q-SEE dinosaur, and it SUCKS.. Can't wait to have a 'modern' H.264 controller again. Thanks for any input, I need to order a new one ASAP. -

Any thoughts on this one here? The price is better than the Chinese brick I purchased, and seems to do about the same functions. Even the GUI is very close. This is a Qvis Zeus. Any thoughts on this model or seller? Thanks! -
I run two cameras from www.thevideocopilot.com in my truck. I use the VC-250 up front and the VC-128 in the back window. I could have gone for the in vehicle DVR, but at the time, I only wanted the front window covered. I've since decided to cover the back window and it was just easier at the time to by a second unit than to upgrade the entire system. I am very happy with both units.

I have a crazy idea, and wanted to know what I'm getting myself into, if anything at all. My house is located on a corner, and we get cars parking on the blind side of the house at all hours of the day. I would love to know when there is someone parked outside the house, and have my DVR log an alarm at that time. My thought was to go out and get a pair of those sensors you put in an automatic garage door install so that you know if there is anything in the path of the closing door. I was thinking that maybe I can put the beam side on my fence, and the 'bounce' side of the sensor across the street (or maybe a small mirror across the street so I can peg two locations on the side of the house by bouncing the beam across the road). Does this sound like something that would work? Of course, I would need to set the alarm so that the beam would need to be blocked longer than x seconds to flag parked cars and not passing cars. Has anyone attempted this yet, or am I just better off going with an outdoor PIR ? Thanks for the help.

Using Garage Door Sensors as alarm sensors
Liquid_Squelch replied to Liquid_Squelch's topic in System Design
I am interested in knowing when cars are parked along my curb line. From my fence, the curb is 13' away. So any car parked along the line would be 13' - 20' away from the sensor. Anything greater than 20' would possibly be a car driving along the street, so I am not interested in catching those events. I wonder if I can just run the Analog out to my alarm contacts with a resistor that will only pass enough voltage to latch the alarm at 13' or more. If the sensor cuts out at 21', I should worry about anything above that. Thanks again for the help -
Using Garage Door Sensors as alarm sensors
Liquid_Squelch replied to Liquid_Squelch's topic in System Design
I am all for building my own solution. I took digital circuits in college and have basic knowledge on electrical circuits (would need to dust off some old info ) The Ultrasonic Range Finder looks great! I think that something that would sense an object at X distance away or less would indicate a vehicle parked outside. If the sensor is at max range, then there is no one parked. There wouldn't be a need to add a timer circuit or power the far end of the sensor, which would be required to operate any other method. Anyone try these ultrasonic sensors for alarm triggering? Low voltage, low current, and I should be able to load up enough resistors for a Normally Open or Closed position when the voltage is just right to indicate an object at curb distance. Here is the kit from sparkfun http://www.sparkfun.com/products/639 And one from MaxBotix: http://www.maxbotix.com/tutorials.htm Now I just need a way to make it weather proof! The weather proof items from SparkFun are $99US, not cheap. -
Using Garage Door Sensors as alarm sensors
Liquid_Squelch replied to Liquid_Squelch's topic in System Design
Soundy, can you point me to one of these designs? Even if I need to talk to a neighbor to borrow power from her house, it might still fly. As long as the alarm contacts are in my yard I should be ok. I can't use motion for this because the cars come up to the curb and stop. There are cameras installed. I found just how many people decide to sit on my curb by look at playbacks. I need something that shows there is someone there, not moving for an extended period of time. I figured if a beam was broken, then there is someone out there. I'm also figuring if I can put the transmitter and receiver on my property, and bounce it of a center point across the street, I will be able to cover 2 areas where a car may be waiting with the same two sensors. Maybe I am Googling the solution wrong too. What should I be searching for? Thanks again for the help. -
Adding features to Stand-Alone DVR with PC Software ?
Liquid_Squelch posted a topic in System Design
If I posted this in the wrong group, I apologize in advance. I am trying to design a system that includes a PC and a stand-alone DVR. I purchased a "ebay" DVR for a good price. I have several coworkers who purchased these products from this seller in the past and they are solid and reliable. That is why I upgraded my old Q-See to the e-bay model. (If anyone wants info on the DVR please PM me and I will give you the info. I don't want this to seem like a promotional thread). Service and sales were great! The DVR is H.264 and has 16 channels. With HDD I paid $348. Anyway - the reason for the post..... The DVR is a Linux based system that encodes in D1. It has both software and hardware alarm in and outs. I need video snapshots when an alarm triggers and this isn't built into my dvr. What I would like to do, is run software on my Windows or Linux PC (both run 24/7) that will stay logged into my DVR and watch the set channels for an alarm event as defined in the software's "local config". When the alarm trips, have the software send out the video or the JPG snapshot to e-mail (or sms). Is there such software? And if so, what are we looking on a price? FYI - the device shipped with software called CMS. It gets the basics done, but it doesn't have all the items on my above wish list. I'm have seen a lot of software for CCTV called CMS, so mine is version 1.x and it looks like the image attached in this thread. Additionally, is there software out there that can take one of the defined channels and create a "time lapsed" video of the camera throughout the day? I would like to add a 24hour loop to my weather station's future website. And shifting gears - I am looking for ANDROID software that will allow me to monitor my H.264 system and have local alarms as well. Simple beep and chirp type of alerts and maybe pushing the camera to the main screen when it has an alarm would be a nice bonus. The Android app must keep the current screen active. I'm using mEye now and my android follows the devices energy save mode and I lose my screen if I don't manually adjust or keep pressing the screen. Thanks for the help -
Hi, I purchased a Q-See 16ch DVR with 4 cameras for a very excellent price. It was basically from some one that installed it for a client, and they decided they didn't want it. Neither did the installer (who I know, so I know this is legit). I think I understand how these things work, and I am pretty good with home networking, so that isn't a problem. I got the unit last night, and I was wondering if I could do the following with it: I am going to setup all 4 cameras to the DVR. The DVR will be on the network. I would like to be able to feed 2 of the 4 cameras to the internet as a webcam for my weather station (to give a live visual of my yard.... eye candy!) Is it possible to just pull 2 feeds and make them public, while keeping the other 2 private?? Do any DVR systems do that, or would I have to move to a PC based system. Is it better to just pickup an outdoor webcam? Since I would already have the CCTV running outdoors, I'd rather just use those cameras, instead of feeding the same thing 2x. Thanks!!!
