The 720P is just the area I copied. They have 1080p as well. Is there a FAQ or write up about TVI / CVI on this Forum? It is good to hear that the technology can't be locked down to a reseller. Thanks.

All, I apologize in advance if I've posted this in the wrong forum, or if this was a question asked somewhere else on the board. I wasn't able to find my answer while searching the forums. My Analog DVR is failing, so it is time to look for something new. My budget does not allow me to buy a completely new system, so one of the Tri-Mode Hybrids are what I am looking at. There is a business that I have used in the past and I am happy with them. The problem is, it looks like all of the their HD-TVI and HD-CVI cameras only work with their DVRs. I understand that the DVR's are rebranded clones of another major DVR company, and all locally sold DVR's are in the same category. My question is, is this a standard in the industry now that HD-CVI and HD-TVI's can be paired only to equipment sold via a particular outlet? Why is it not like an analog system where any box can record any camera? I will not buy a system tied to reseller A and it does not give me the option to add equipment from reseller B? Or is it just this one reseller doing this and I should take my business elsewhere? Or should I just buy the direct "Name Brand" boxes and not the rebranded boxes sold via US Distribution? If anyone was asking, I haven't made my mind up yet between HD-CVI or HD-TVI, and minus the big companies behind both, I'm not sure I see much of a difference either. Thanks.

The September 14, 2014 release of gDMSS Plus immediately crashes my Dahua clone dvr. I've tried to log in with two different mobile devices, both with the updated gDMSS Plus Release. While watching the CCTV output, when I attempt a connection, the clock drops from the screen and all front panel buttons no longer respond. A hard reboot is required to bring the DVR back into service. I wish there was a way to roll back to a previous version of gDMSS.

You were able to go back a month? How big is your HDD, and how many cameras are you recording with? How much time can you typically store? My 1TB drive only handles about 10 days at D1 compression for 12 cameras.

All, I've had a cheap condenser microphone located in the gable vent of my attic "looking" down at the street below. It was good enough to hear car passing, horns honking, or the occasional kids yelling as they walk down the street. Example of what I had, not the exact same: Lately the condenser microphone has been flaky. It hasn't always been working, and I believe it is because the unit isn't supposed to be out in the elements. The microphone is behind the screen in the attic, but I'm afraid that the moisture has gotten to it. So, I decided that now was a good time to think about an upgrade. I picked up a 10watt passive speaker pa horn. Those $10 all weather plastic coned shaped speakers. I was planning on using it as the microphone. I'm not hearing anything other than background noise. I can't even pickup the wind blowing past the screen, something the condenser mike had no problems with. My questions are: Has anyone used one of these cone speakers on their CCTV setup, and do they work as a microphone? If so, how many watts was the speaker capable with the one you used? The speaker I have is an 8ohm version. If I hold the speaker and talk directly into it, I can barely hear myself. Something is telling me I probably need to amplify the incoming sound in order for it to work properly. Maybe I should just get one that has a build in amp and run it off my CCTV 12v panel? Please keep in mind, this is a question on the speaker/mic itself. Not how to setup the DVR to include audio on the encoder. I have that enabled for the proper camera. Like I said, the old condenser microphone would work whenever it decided too after a few months of perfect service. Thanks all for the help.

My HDD light is red on my DVR when the HDD is full. It doesn't really matter because the way I have mine setup, the new files overwrite the old files. So, in this config, the HDD will ALWAYS be full. Maybe that explains why your HDD light is on too.

I have a basic question for those who have installed cameras in a drop ceiling environment. When you mount the cameras, did you just screw them into the ceiling tiles. If so, did you use the platic 'mollies' that came with the camera? OR - did you screw into the metal cross framing that the ceiling panels fit into? This is a brand new ceiling so the fibers are still fresh. I'm just worried in a few years that the cameras might start coming loose. What is the common practice with this type of install? (The cameras will be dome style cameras without the covers, not PTZ or anything with much weight)

I had the same problem a few months back. My Chinese 'brandless' dvr crapped the bed after a few months of use. The Ebayer had a warranty when I bought it, but he was long gone when I needed him. Coming to this website, asking the same question you are, I was pointed to a reseller. I now buy most of my supplies from them. Great company! I have coworkers and family members who now purchase from them as well.

I save my files in 5 minute "chunks". Each morning before work, I turn on the monitor and start the playback from midnight on just the cameras that I am interested in. I then use the "next file" button on my DVR's front panel and I am able to easily see what happened on my cameras in 5 minute snapshots. If something catches my eye, I'll then let the video play at 4x speed (the fastest option on my DVR). I can usually pan through an entire night in just a few minutes.

What program are you using to FTP to the DVR? I tried ports 21, 22, 23 and was unable. When I telnet in, my images are located here: /usr/data/Data I have no images in /tmp

You both missed the question. The question was, how does his router know there is a CCTV box on the other end to talk to? The simple answer to that question is the router could care less what is on the other end, or what is plugged into it. As long as the software on your computer knows how to work with the packets sent by the DVR, all is ok. It is the same no matter what you plug into it.. Plug in a playstation, xbox, netflix device (boxee, ruku, etc), as long as packets in can talk to packets out, the router just routes the raw traffic.

Is there anyway to do this from one of today's LCD TV's? Specifically I have a Samsung TV with Composite, HDMI, VGA, and RCA connections for Video. As far as I can tell, there isn't any SCART socket on any of my TVs. I'm in the USA.

First, I would try something other than port 80. Many ISPs block that port. 2nd, does it work internally on from a computer on the same LAN? If so, continue, if not, you'll have to find out why. 3rd, Did you set port forwarding for all ports to the DVR through all the routers it is behind?

Here is the real question, Are you typing in your DVR LAN IP from within your own LAN, or are you at some remote location, typing your Public IP Address into your browser and hitting your CCTV system? If your in your own LAN, typing your DVR's 192.168.x.x IP and Port, then your network doesn't care what is on the other end, as long as your software can talk to it and work it's magic. Now, if you're external to your lan, and putting your Public IP address into your Browser and port, then maybe your firewall is disabled in the router.. I'm guessing your asking this specific question from within your own LAN.

I'm looking to schedule my PTZ camera to move to certain presets at set times of the day. I would rather not move it when required, and then assume the idle time kicks in on the PTZ and places it back into the default preset. Has anyone setup their PTZ to move to specific presets at set times through the day? If so, how do you do it? Do you run external alarm triggers set on timers? If so, what make/model do you suggest. Or, do you run a RS-485 interface on a PC and set timers via software (such as Linux CRON), or do you patch a computer to the serial port of the DVR and send serial commands to set preset, again using software or Linux CRON to push the commands out the serial cable? My PTZ camera is currently receiving commands only from my DVR via local console, PSS for remote viewing, or my mobile device. Thanks for the info.

I need to tell my PTZ camera where to move at certain times of the day, on a schedule. You said your PTZ does it internally, mine doesn't..there is no clock or calendar built into my camera. That is why I need to control it via the RS485 data line using an extra timer/calendar device or via the DVR alarm inputs or DVR RS-232 console if possible. Example: Watch the first bus stop every weekday morning from time A to time B Watch the second bus stop every weekday morning from time C to time D Watch my car in the street when I am normally home Go on Patrol or go to another preset on all other times of the day. I can send the PTZ to presets during alarms over the RS485 interface. The camera communicates with the DVR just fine. I can currently control the camera ONLY via the dvr GUI. It should be a simple concept. I was just wondering if anyone else has done this, and if so, how..

I need something that will work through the RS-485 bus or use the DVR as the controller. I'm sure I can get a Serial to RS-485 interface on fleabay and hopefully run a script at set times to send the preset commands to the camera. My DVR has 16 alarm inputs, a Serial Input, and RS-485 bus (obviously) .Something that will work off those 3 options would be what I am looking to achieve.

Is it safe to assume that the DVR is setup on 192.168.1.108 and hasn't moved to another IP address in your network? You may also want to try other ports to play it safe. I know some ISPs block certain ports on their network for some customers. Ex, locally we don't get port 25 and 80 forwarded into our homes unless you pay more.

You most likely want to connect to your TCP port (unless you have a dedicated mobile port). My old "Chinese Knockoff" had a dedicated mobile port, but my new Dahua 'clone' uses the TCP port for mobile connections. I normally set my devices so that the HTTP, TCP, and UDP ports are consecutive ports so I can just open the range on my firewall and point them to the DVR. Are you logging into the DVR from your mobile using the same user/pass ? Does the user have proper credentials to view the mobile stream (if needed)? What if you set the secondary stream to the lowest encoding rate and see if you can still log in? Also, see if there is any information in the logs on the DVR.

Are you logging into the DVR with PSS with a PC on the same network? If YES, is the android device on your home network as well (via wifi), or is it outside your network using a Cellular network to connect to your DVR? I suspect your using the Cellular network and your internal router isn't setup properly. There is a good thread on here on how to setup port forwarding, as well as one on nellysurplus.com You will also need to use you PUBLIC IP address assigned by your ISP and not your internal IP (such as 192.168.x.x). Find your Public IP by googling "what is my ip address" If you are using your Android device, and you know you are on your home network (behind the firewall), make sure you are using the same port number. I use 'gDMSS', a free app, on my Android Devices.

I would think that you could run ffmpeg or vlc on the PI to watch the video. I had planned on using ffmpeg to log a rtsp stream from my dvr and upload a 'stop motion' or 'time lapse' loop of a camera on my weather station for my website. My Pi has been delayed another month, so I won't be able to figure this out until October. I don't know if it has enough horse power to run ZoneMinder or not. Best of luck!
