My camera has motorized zoom and I can control the zoom from PC without having to climb up the camera and adjust manually. I'm wondering if you can get a Pan and Tilt accessories or unit so I can make a PTZ out of the camera. It won't be remote viewed but just controlled from inside the house so imagine some kind of stepper motor you can control the pan or tilt direct cabled of the camera outside? I know this can't be controlled elsewhere from the internet but at least locally. Thanks.

24 key frame interval? Maybe it's the exposure? What is your exposure value? What is the minimum where a person face can't move fast (even an athlete) past a certain milliseconds? In those 30fps versus 20fps vs 10fps video. So they all can be certain same exposure and the frame per second is just the sampling of those same exposure?

Do Hikvision IP cameras work fully with Dahua NVRs?
aurmol replied to slopolytech's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Don. So is the dome 4300E dynamic range 100% identical with the 4300S? Or could it be just this particular model 4300S with the excellent dynamic range? 4300 comes in 3 forms, the bullets 4300S, 4300E and the dome BW4300E. -
3Mp narrower than 2Mp
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
buellwinkle, max.. or anyone who owns the dahua 4300s with great dynamic range. Is the dynamic range a function of the sensor or circuitry after it? Because there is this dahua model 3Mp WDR Ultra Smart Ip cam http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hfw8301e-626.html It says Ultra (Wide Dynamic Range) up to 120dB. It also uses the 3mp aptina sensor. Now is the 4300S dynamic range also 120dB (just not written but emphasized in the ultra smart model? Or did they further improve the dynamic range of the already good 4300S to make it even greater? What is your opinion? Anyone own the 8301e? How does it compare to the 4300S in the dynamic range. Just the same? -
5mp practical resolution increase over 1080p
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
To continue the above comment. I noticed one great point about the 5mp though. Direct sampling of the sensor is equivalent to digital zoom. So when you set it from 5mp to 1.3mp. It's like you have a digital zoom of say 2x. And when you use the motorized zoom in from 4mm to 9mm.. it's like optical zoom of 2.25X. So total zoom is like 4.5. See the following image comparison. 1.3MP Zoom in all way to 9mm .. compared this to the 5MP Zoom out (4mm) .. What's great of this vari-focal motorized 4-9mm is you can adjust the zoom right in the setup menu and even at PSS. So it's like having the zoom part of the PTZ in the 5mp. This is the only good thing I noticed of this 5mp. Won't this feature alone be worth it? PTZ are 3X more expensive than the dahua 5mp. At least in the 5mp you get some 4.5 Zoom that can be controlled at computer (mobile gDMSS though can't make you adjust the zoom but at least desktop PSS does). But for zoom to be really worth it.. How do you think should be the minimum magnifying power.. like 10X optical zoom? I only need to know your opinion of this zoom point so I can decide whether to return or keep the 5mp. I have less than a day. Thanks all for the tips. -
5mp practical resolution increase over 1080p
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I tested it thoroughly a while ago. The zoom level is the same for all resolutions. Meaning those pictures I shared above are all zoom out (maximum fov). If I set it to say 1080p and zoom in middle. And return to 5Mp or other resolutions. It will remain zoom in middle. So the zoom is the same for all resolution. It doesn't remember. So in the 1.3p resolution where dahua did direct sampling making the image biggest and you use the zoom to 9mm... the image is even closer.. I also directly compared the fov with the sony exmor.. I noticed it is narrower a bit.. so I think it's right when they spec the 5mp as 82 degrees FOV vs the sony exmor 88 degree fov. Now because the 5Mp is only 12fps and you get much narrower fov when set to other resolutions except 720p.. I plan to return it in exchange for one of the famed 4300s.. but what I'll get is the 4300e. I also tested the dahua nvr4204 with 200 Mbps incoming bandwidth. Well.. the 4 channel can take one 5mp and three 1080p resolution ip cams. The supplier told me the maximum is only two 1080p and they told this to all customers. No wonder no one buys their ip cams and instead get their hdcvi... The problem with the hdcvi is the fov is narrow.. almost the same as the 4300s aptina at 72 degrees. And the image paler than the aptina. But the cleanliness of the hdcvi at wdr set to 50% is close the sony exmor except if you see really close at the shadows and more noise in the hdcvi. So it seems I'm stuck now getting another sony exmor at 88 degrees and a 3mp aptina to test out its famed greater dynamic range but at only 72 in exchange for returning the 5Mp. HiKvision are double the price of the Dahuas. And Avtech is expensive but don't have any P2P. Is there no other brands that are good enough. The 2Mp Jovision have horrible dynamic range. What else good enough with large fov and great dynamic range. Is there a 3Mp Hikvision model that meets this requirement? -
5mp practical resolution increase over 1080p
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Is it in the aptina technical literature or other references that it has wider dynamic range than the sony exmor.. or is it your own deduction? Because if the Aptina has really greater dynamic range on spec sheet and the 5MP dynamic range is not as good as the aptina (any theory what sensor the 5Mp use?).. then the aptina may even resolve more.. and I have only 6 hours left before I can exchange the 5mp for two 1080p aptina. What you think? I found out 64 gig micro sd is expensive.. you can get a 2 TB hard disc with two 64G micro sd. And saving 5mp takes up space time. it will take 1.5 days to fill up the 64G at 5Mp 12fps. So the built in Sd lot and even on menu Playback may not give much of advantage The only think I like about the 5Mp is its zoom can be controlled inside the setup menu because it is vari-motorized.. so it acts like ptz zoom (4mm to 9mm or 2.2 optical zoom.. better than nothing) It can accept microphone and audio input too. Is this useful to record sounds at roads. Is there evidence the 5mp can show much more detail than the 3mp? Haven't tested it side by side with the 2mp/3mp because these are already installed on top at another location and the 5Mp is heavy to climb up and put side to side. Please share what you got so I can decide whether to get the 3mp aptina instead or even the hdcvi. With the price of 1 5mp, I can 3 1080p hdcvi complete with recorder. -
5mp practical resolution increase over 1080p
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you will analyze the following pictures (which I erroneously posted in another thread in the reply) the 1.3MP, XGA, and D1 version of the dahua 5mp being 4:3 have about 60 degrees fov compared to the 5Mp resolution 87 degrees fov. The 3Mp, 1080p and 720p version have all different sizes. It's as if dahua just zoom the 3mp and 1080p part of the 5Mp frame.. and only the 720p has the same fov as the 5mp. Maybe the designers think since the cam can zoom from 4mm to 9mm and you don't buy a 5Mp to use 1080p, then they just mostly do zooms except for the 720p. So the correct term for the former is direct sampling and the 720p picture scaling? Why.. in other brands.. they have same field of view for the 16:9 and 4:3? And why would anyone use 1080p when they bought 5Mp? Here are the images and field of view taken with the 5Mp fixed in position and target (distance of 1 meter). All resolutions taken 5mp, 3mp, 1.3mp 1080p, Xga, 720p, d1. So from the way dahua cuts them in each resolution.. how do dahua implement their resolution algorithm? 5 megapixel .. 3 megapixel (here dahua just cut the right side) .. 1.3 megapixel .. 1080p (dahua seems to cut it right from the 5mp frame) .. XGA .. 720p .. d1 .. Note in all shots, I didn't move the camera or target a single inch. About how the 5mp compares to the 2mp/3mp in low light. It appears to do better than the 2mp sony exmol which as buellwinkle stated, has too great a contrast and some details loss. I don't have the 3mp aptina so not sure how it compares to the 3mp. I still have one day left before I can exchange it for others so I'm wondering if the 3mp aptina has greater dynamic range. I can get two 3mp aptina with the price of the 5mp. -

Ok. Thanks for the tips. Well. I just got the cover of this unit that I used indoor http://jovisionuk.co.uk/jvs-n81-na-2mp-ip-camera/2161825 and put it over the top of the 4200E (like 4300E). It is sufficient? Do you know how to reset the 4300E.. or your 4300S? Because this morning I was testing the 5mp and I pulled out one of the poe port and after the original dome got back, I forgot the password. Good the one in the port is an eyeball dome (rest bullet) and had to climb up to reset it. I realized I forgot all passwords of all ipcams so how do you reset the bullet? -

Dahua dvr/nvr Mail, totally unable to work
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in General Digital Discussion
Maybe it's better to get those separate security systems where upon pir detection, the system would dial your phone. CCTV pir and email notification doesn't seem to work reliably. What separate security system do you know or use that can dial the cell phones right at the moment of pir detection? And does it work reliably? -

Did you remember reading the angle of view they are providing are diagonal and not the horizontal or just a guess? The angle of view is the only thing stopping me from getting the 3MP. In the square parking driveway. there is still a 5 degrees hidden area where the robber can hide so 90 degree seems critical. Also I assume the 4300S has similar sensor characteristic as the 4300E (the one available in my country in another package but all specs the same). http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products_category/3-megapixels-325.html I didn't read it anywhere but they like to flex their numbers by using the diagonal only instead of listing both the horizontal and vertical; same concept as what sellers do when advertising a TV. The only Dahua IP cameras that exceed a 75 degree horizontal are the ones using the Sony sensors, and I went through some pretty painstaking efforts to be able to say for a fact that those Sony sensors tap out at 80-82 degrees. Having said that, I've never known any camera of any type to claim a true 90 degree horizontal with a 3.6mm lens. I've had to drop in 2.5mm lenses on a number of occasions to achieve a full 90 and that's much easier said than done in some cases. Like you said, the specs are the same between the 4300S and 4300E. I've never tested the 4300E so I have no room to talk about it with any authority. I will say that I have tested other cameras with that body style though and they did just fine as long as you kept them out of the sun for prolonged periods of time. But my 4300E is under the sun whole day... are you saying the sunlight can destroy the lens coating? or what damages can possibly occur? I just got the 5Mp dahua in exchange for the hdcvi and the field of view of the 5mp is almost close to 90 degrees.. maybe 88 degrees because putting it at corner of room can make me see the two adjacent walls. See full descriptions of the 5Mp at viewtopic.php?f=19&t=43946&p=261759#p261759 -
5mp practical resolution increase over 1080p
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I finally got the 5mp dahua bullet. Here are some points. 1. When you lower the resolution to 3Mp, 1.3Mp, 1080p, D1, the images keep getting smaller and smaller as if they use only the exact corresponding pixels of the 5Mp sensor.. However in 720p, the vertical are cut with the same horizontal as the 5Mp, but the all the rest of resolution are severely cut in the horizontal and vertical. 2. The motorized Zoom and Focus button is not so responsive, it's better to adjust in the setup menu than directly in the unit. 3. The colors are very much like the sony exmor, very contrasty. Does it use exmor sensor too? What does it use? I'm not sure of the dynamic range compared to the aptina. 4. The field of the view of the 4mm lens is almost close to 90 degrees. Putting at a corner, you can see the adjacent walls... but there is barrel distortion due to the wide angle. 5. It has micro sd so not only can you record but you can Playback just like in NVR. But why the 64 Gig limit. Why can't one use 128 Gig or more. Is there data line differences between the 64 gig and 128 gig? 6. It has Alarm output and input too and the relays work.. but only accessible via the mobile gDMSS plus. Say, is it possible to port forward and access ip cam directly over the net without using any nvr or dvr? 7. In my country. Even banks use camera less than $75. The dahua 5mp costs a whopping $250. No one crazy here to buy them.. so I may return it last minute and get the Hdcvi since my target is not long distant but room size only and the Hdcvi and 5Mp can not be far off in performance.... don't know.. but the need to avoid NVR may make me keep it. 8. I'll test it tom how well can my Nvr4204 handle it. The Nvr4204 has incoming bandwidth of 200Mbps. So I wonder if it can do 1 5Mp and 3 1080p.. what do you think based on what you heard or read? -

In the following thread, you will see the difference in angle of view between the aptina and the sony exmor. You will see the difference is really about 16 degrees. Maybe you didn't center each of them vertically. Most vendors quote the field of view as horizontal.. because if 72 degrees is the diagonal then the horizontal is 60 degree and this is too small. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=33328&p=240519&hilit=sensor+or+a+different+vendor+for+the+3.6mm+lens#p240519 I also justed tested the 1080p cvi fov by putting it at corner of a room, the angle is 70 degrees or less. So the 88 degree sony exmor still win over. However the 5MP is 82 degrees and I may just get it in less than 5 hours in exchange for the hdcvi. So if any have any last word how good or bad the dahua 5Mp, let me know now. Thanks. -
Dahua dvr/nvr Mail, totally unable to work
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in General Digital Discussion
I tried gmail. Didn't work too. Did you have to match the primary and alternate DNS in the TCP/IP to that of the router isp? Someone tried this and it worked but my router isp DNS are all 0. My NVR is connected to a relay that is connected to high power siren that can be heard over one mile. I don't want the NVR to enable it whenever it encountered critical motion detect. So I want to receive an email first to confirm if there is intruder and hit the siren button at gDSSM to scare him off. Is your gmail realiable and send message without any delays (maximum of less than 5 secs)? If 3 minutes late, the robber can disable the NVR and siren. Or have you heard of GSM alarm system where it rings your phone at detection of intruder? It appears this is more reliable, isn't it? CAn you or others recommend any brand? And please others give more email setup suggestion in the dahua to make it work. Thanks. -

The 4200S is listed as having 88 degrees fov while the 4300S is listed as 72 degrees, so the difference is 16 degrees. Since I need close to 90 degrees to image the square parking entrance by putting the camera at a corner. The 4300S 72 degrees seems a deal breaker to me. If your target views are bright or where constrast difference between neighboring parts are high. You won't notice much difference. But at areas of low contrast like tire markings or even the tires themselves or how smooth the skin of the person, the two can show differences.. at least according to buellwinkle. I already have two 4200S and colors saturations seem to lower detail as I tested again last night. And since the 4300S has narrow fov and the 5MP has only 12fps limit. And the HiKvision 3MP costs more than the dahua 5MP here. I seemed unable to get any clear choice.. maybe I'll retain the HDCVI as the 1080m camera and 1U smart recorder are one half the price of a single 5MP and the same as the price of the 4300S. Need to make decision in 24 hours or I can't exchange anything anymore. I notice the noises in the hdcvi are more suppressed when you set the WDR to 50 as if the dynamic range allows more signal over noise... I wonder if you have tested the aptina vs the hdcvi side by side.. you may notice their colors are similarly dull compared to the sony exmor. But which is even duller, the aptina or the hdcvi? And how's the dynamic range? Could the hdcvi sensors be bleeding signals between neighboring sensor unit because the factory is not intel quality... in ip cam, there is analog to digital converter right at the sensors.. but in the hdcvi.. is it possible it is all analogs from sensor to cable without any A/D conversion? If so, maybe the bleeding of signals is caused by slight radio frequency interference before the cable. I used RG-59u solid copper core with total internal reflection so the cable is not the problem. -
For those who own cellphones like the Samsung. You know you don't use 5mp anymore.. it's either 8mp or 12mp because 5mp are such lower resolution. Our cctv 2mp is just like de ja vu to the olden days of low resolution camera. And d1 resolution seems to be 1980's era tech. I just need a snapshot of the surrounding. Has anyone come across any cctv where they can take 1 frame per second or even 1 frame every 3 seconds of a more than 10mp image still? Some of us don't need continuous motion. Why doesn't there seem to be cctv more than 10mp that takes stillshot or snapshot every 2 seconds or 3 seconds and viewable by remote.. or maybe there is some still camera that can do it? How do you view it remotely.. it can still be considered cctv, won't it.

Anyone tried these Q-see HD Analog systems yet??
aurmol replied to jazzgtrl4's topic in Security Cameras
No. the above image are just sample of image noise I found in the net. What I was saying was at low light the image of the hdcvi are noisier than the ip. At very low light, you can see noise artifacts and these are the distortion I was talking about. My 1080p hdcvi is http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/hac-hfw2200d-b-516.html Anyway. I spent some time around the city looking and buying other RG-59u cables. There is no improvement in the low dynamic range of the HDcvi. After more testing. The following is my conclusion. 1. Don Stephens comments about HDCVI being faded and ip cam contrast being better has basis in reality. He is the only one I found in the net commenting about these and I thought i'ts just his bias. 2. The HDCVI images are just so faded. But remember buellwinkle reviews that the ip cam aptina is more faded than the sony exmor but has greater dynamic range. This is not the case with the HDCVI. It has more faded image and yet the dynamic range is worse than the 1080 sony exmor ip cam. The consequence being that in low contrast image such as shadows or even surface features, you can see less details in the hdcvi. 3. At daytime, the image is faded.. but at nighttime.. at low light.. it is darker... and there is more noise than in the ip cams. 4. In the 1080p version. There is some latency about 100ms. Compare to pure HD-SDI, the 1080p hdcvi has some very very slight delay (why is this?) 5. I wonder if Dahua did this in purpose or the limit of analog technology. But it seems it has to do with market strategy. Because if their HDCVI images are equal or better than the ip cams. Then they may cut their ip market. So they have to put the hdcvi images or quality in between the 700tvi analog cam and the ip cams. But could it really be just poorer sensors. How about Hikvision HDtvi. Are these as bad as the HDcvi.. could it be analog transmission related or really the sensors and marketing strategy? In asia, many people are poor so can't afford ip cams. So maybe they made the hdcvi for them. 6. I'm now debating myself whether to get the wider 88 degree fov 1080p sony exmor, or the narrow 3MP aptina sensor ipor the 5Mp ip cams. The sensor of the 5MP is unknown. Anyone got an idea what this is? Maybe another dahua in house invention with poor contrast? If I get the 5Mp, I may not be able to return it. I can still return the hdcvi package tomorrow and I will get rid of it asap. 7. Thanks for the help. -
3Mp narrower than 2Mp
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
No. The FOV of the 1.3MP dahuas are 89 degrees while all their 3MP are just 72 degrees. These use aptina sensor. While the 2Mp or 1080p uses sony exmor and are 88 degrees FOV. And because I need about 90 degrees FOV. Im hesitant to get the narrow 3Mp. The 5MP are 82 degrees fov. So are the 4K (8mp). -

I'll get the best RG59 tom even just a meter to test whether it's just cable. The distortion is when you zoom it say 50X (the large object doesn't have distortion).. so when you zoom at the noise, it's vibrating like in the following pic: -
switch or router that uses pure poe power without adaptor
aurmol posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I finally able to test running two NVRs on 1 ip cam. It works. What happens is that second NVR setting overrides that of first so whichever power on last will dictate the ip cam setting used (such as resolution). Now that I see one advantage of IP cam over the analogs. (Hdcvi, Hdtvi, Ahd). I have one question. I have 2 ip cams on a floor without any power supply. Is there a poe switch or router where the power supplied doesn't come from any adaptor but from the lan cable itself? My ip cams is only between 5 to 6 watts.. Assuming the cable can supply 12 watts. How do I use it to power the switch or router and have 2 ip cams plugged into it? I want to use the second cable for my second backup NVR so need to split it. So called POE splitter still needs adapter power. I can no longer add any wires because I have to remove all wires from the pipes and it is very costly. -

I bought a 1080p hdcvi and recorder to test as it can be exchanged for other items for two days. The image seems to be faded. At night. Dark object would look so dark unless you set WDR to 50. In the ip cam. Dark object seems to show more contrast even without WDR enabled. Remember the aptina ip cam are more faded than the sony exmor.. but has greater dynamic range. In the Hdcvi, it seems it is more faded than the exmor yet has poorer dynamic range than the exmor. I don't know. Maybe it's the cable i'm using. It's just one foot long. Tomorrow I'll get gold plated coaxial and see if it would improve. What cables have you guys used and how long? Another. There seems to be more noise than the ip cams. And in horizontal lines, the image seems to be boiling like when you see image on top of boiling water. What is this phenomenon called. Does noise cause boiling lines? My main use is at nighttime monitoring doorway. If good cable shows the same thing. I'll exchange it for the 5mp ip cam. It looks like ip cams images are cleaner. -
Hdcvi vs ip vs HD-Sdi 1080p samples
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Who the hell told you any of this? The concept of dropping SD analog or IP from the market is ludicrous. There is always going to be a customer base looking for the cheapest crap out there to get them by, just as there will always be a customer who demands the very best money can buy. Anyone telling you that anything is HDCVI is better than IP has clearly not examined all of the benefits that IP has to offer. We've been working with HDCVI since 2013. It is a fantastic upgrade to standard analog systems, but in no way does it compare to the quality and benefits of a good IP system. As has already been mentioned, the only reason to consider HDCVI over IP is if you already have good RG59 cable in place that you can't, or don't want to, replace...or if you're being cheap. +1 I live in a third world country. 99.8% of our cctv uses the 600 tvl analogs. Only 0.2% use ip cam. I am one of them. Suppliers told me they would migrate their customers to hdcvi (many brands use this now) for greater image quality at fraction of cost. No one buys their ip cams anymore (except me and very few you can count with a hand). Well. For many folks here, ip knowledge is complicated. Imagine a 80 year grandpa who needs to spend 1 year to learn ip technology to install an ip cam, while you just plug the analogs (700tvi or hdcvi) and it's done. Many here loves ip because they are installers and it is their specialty. That said. I will still get an ip cam. Because I was able to test running 2 NVRs on 1 ip cam and it works What happens is that second NVR setting overrides that of first so whichever power on last will dictate the ip cam setting used (such as resolution). All my ip cams are 1080p. I plan to get 5mp to make ip cams even more worth it. Now is there someone who owns or have tested the dahua 5 mp cams? How is it? The supplier has one stock for the whole 5 months and I'll be the only one to get it if it is good enough. Will wait any review here. Thanks. -

So it explains the bad contrast of the Hdcvi not because of the analog transmission but because the sensor itself is not of sony exmor or aptina quality. If the trend will continue. I think I'll just get an ip cam.
