It's a 4 channel dahua NVR4204 with alleged 200Mbps bandwidth. I tested it for 2 hours a while ago. 3 ip camps of 1080p and one 960p were connected to all 4 channels at 30fps. Recording seems to be continuous as well as viewing thru vga (the dealer I bought this from never tested it at more than 2 1080p). But when viewing thru network connected to lan. There is a delay of about 20 seconds when viewing mainstream but only a few milliseconds when viewing substream. When I changed the fps to 10 and all 720p. The delay is about 10. It seemed the nvr can't handle network output (as live monitoring connected to the vga or hdmi has no problem). Now my questions to sort out the situation. When an NVR sends out to network. How CPU intensive it is. Isn't it the stream is just send out to the Ethernet. Why is it slow? How much cpu power contribute to this versus just recording it? Also dahua reported 200 Mbps incoming bandwidth for all 4, 8, 16 and 32 channels. Now why is that there is a 4 or 8 channel limit when the incoming bandwidth is the same (in other brands too). Is it because the decoders needed for vga/direct monitoring requirements? If so. Can you record more than 4 channels in a 4 channel NVR with the rest unable to view via monitor? Others?

manually changing unused lan pins into power over ethernet
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yikes. Why would you not simply deploy a POE injector? Because the ip cam is not POE capable. One must plug a separate 12 volts adaptor into its power.. so it's not theoretically impossible to use 2 of the pins right.. before I used to install internet café lan network system so very familiar with pins and had crimped over a hundred lan cables and even have tester for each pin.. -
For those dome camera with IK10 or Vandal proof rating... how hard is the glass cover? Would it still break if you hit it with hammer? How hard is it really?
-
Even using a long stick, you can take out the ball at center.. and the base all plastic with very thin screw hole and plate. I think it's supposed to be used indoor only? I have a bullet cam and the base is metal.. I think this is what those vandal proof dome camera with metal body is all about.. because it's metal? But they are bigger...

I think I know why downloading even small file failed in PSS.. because the GUI itself use up a lot of bandwidth (due to lots of features). Compared this to Nvr with very simple menu and function (my initial nvr without alarm out).. remote access of playback is easier because of less GUI bandwidth overhead. Anyway. I just returned my unit because it has some firmware problem. It can't show yellow during motion detect even when schedule has it checked. Second unit can show yellow. So even firmware has factory defect. Reconfiguring everything. I noticed something in Smart PSS. You can only change the Video Detect (Motion Detect) setup when logging in as username admin.. you can't access the setup even if you created many accounts and use them to login.. pls. verify if this is really true or another firmware defect of my Nvr4204. Thanks.

I got this Dahua NVR4204-P (manufactured in July 2014).. and have problem with Smart PSS. It always starts in mainstream.. when switching to sub stream.. the video disconnects and says "Failed to switch substream", it never got successful... how about yours? did yours switch successful at all even one time? Also the Encode page has only General written and can't adjust any setting of the Mainstream and Extra Stream. I'm using P2P. Maybe the NVR doesn't have complete feature compatible with the Smart PSS? Please response asap as I stil have 3 days to return the NVR. Thanks.

Did anyone notice the 1280x960p can show more vertical than even 1920x1080p? 1280x960p has 4:3 aspect ratio 1920x1080p has 16:9 aspect ratio (same view of 1280x720p but higher resolution) Supposed they have the same field of view. The 1280x960p can show more vertical. In the 1280x720p mode, they just cut the higher and lower part. Someone says most manufacturer uses 1280x1024 chip in producing 720p and 960p. So 960p can really show more? Note 1080p is just more resolution at same field of view of 720p. To make the 1080p show as much as the 960p. It should become 1920x1440p. I am not talking theoretical.. I'm comparing the 960p vs 720p of the dahua ip cam and noticed the 960p has more vertical field available. Is this really true all 960p cam have more vertical field (pls. don't confuse this with the 960h of the analog).

I finally know why playback download failed. When I put the NVR4204-P directly in my LAN network. It can download even 300Megabytes for 3 minutes. While using 1Mbps mobile internet connection at cctv source.. it can't even download 5 Megabyte. It seemed the Smart PSS connection to NVR needs minimum speed. If it detects slow speed, the download just failed.. it doesn't buffer it while sending slowly... isn't it that when downloading any file and even if speed is slow.. it should still continue but slowly, the Smart PSS just disconnects it. What is the phenomenon called?

Settings such as? After trying straight 4 days.. I can't download the recorded file in the Playback section after cutting the portion. Did you encounter this problem using P2P? any idea why it couldn't download? were you always able to download all the time?

960p larger vertical
aurmol replied to aurmol's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
In typical 1080p ip cam which you said have 2048x1536 sensor.. there is no option to use it in the menu? how do you access the 2048x1536 and get 50% more extra pixels? -
Thanks. When it is offline I couldn't right click on the channel. I found out when I logged in using admin in P2P. It gets locked out within a minute after viewing the feeds.. so the video feeds got disconnected or reported "offline". Is this a rule one musn't log in using NVR admin account in P2P using Smart PSS? Anyone can clarify?
-
Where in the menu of the Smart PSS is the option where you can connect substream without opening the mainstream? I've been trying it for 2 days and can't find the setting.. how did you do it (in the typical port forwarding and not a P2P)?
-
Why does Smart PSS always default to main stream when opening the program? You can't open extra stream without it first displaying main stream, correct? Is there no setting where you can save viewing in extra stream and it would start this way?

Dahua user account system badly designed?
aurmol replied to mroek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks for this info. You just saved me from returning the product. I thought the entire NVR is locked from any user (all 128 possible users). So I can log in another account and trigger the air raid level siren and save the day -
Dahua user account system badly designed?
aurmol replied to mroek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Are you saying if you use other accounts to log in to remote view that doesn't use "admin".. even if someone use the username admin with any password? the NVR won't be locked in? This would be good if there is such option. Also I wonder if Smart PSS has a bug. My Admin and password is saved correct in the P2P Device Config and I can live view feeds but everytime I tried to access the Video Detect and Motion Detect, the Smart PSS would report the remote NVR as locked in and I'd get offline even when I didn't enter any wrong password. Any idea why this happened as it happened 6 times already today and I was offline for 3 hours total.. can't even log in using mobile Dmss since the NVR was inaccessible for 30 minutes (even without password mistake.. what else could produce this?). Thanks. -
Dahua user account system badly designed?
aurmol replied to mroek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Then if I know someone's P2P SN or port forwarding ipaddress.. I can log in with "admin" name using any password and he would be locked for 30 minutes enough to effectively disable his security and remote monitoring. So if the robbers know your unit serial number (P2P) or ip, then you are vulnerable. Dont you agree? Is there no way around this? This defeats the purpose of remote monitoring. -
Dahua user account system badly designed?
aurmol replied to mroek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
But you can't change the username "admin".. even if you create a new account with different username and password, the "admin" is still there.. any attempt to log-in into it with incorrect password will lock remote access for 30 minutes.. My NVR is connected to an isolated warehouse. The alarm outputs are wired to relays that would power higher amperage sirens that can be heard for one kilometer. So if the robber lock out the cctv, how can I even view or sound the alarm (manually). Is there a way to change the "admin" name to a unique one that can't be guessed? This is last chance before I return it because I have 4 days exchange policy. Thank you. -
Dahua user account system badly designed?
aurmol replied to mroek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So how can you disable the locked account feature of the dahua dvr and nvr when you log in incorrectly (I know waiting for 30 minutes would make it back online)? This is security vulnerability because what if you are monitoring at remote location and the perpetrators purposedly log into your account incorrect and lock it to avoid your remote monitoering and 30 minutes is enough time to get away with any crimes. Do other brands have this account lock feature too or only dahua? -
I finally bought this supposed dahua 200Mbbps 4 channel bandwidth 4204-P. Both Smart PSS and gDMSS plus has difficulty connecting to other camera brand but only quick to its own brand. But the NVR locally saw both them at same time. I connected via P2P to the NVR. Is Dahua doing it on purpose to make it connect erraticly with other brand camera.. anyone else encounter similar thing?
-
This is to clarify. I saw the test of the $150 Dahua "200 Mbps bandwidth" 4-channel NVR 4204-P. It can accommodate only 2 1080p or 4 720p. You can't add another 720p to two 1080p so only 2 channels can be used. The one that can accommodate all 8 channel 1080p is the $350 NVR 4208-p8.

Can anyone summarize the different file formats of different brands of cctv? Some use proprietary, some use standard mp3 container (h264) that can be played in any player without conversion. For example Dahua use *.dat where you have to convert to avi.. but isn't it avi is low quality so would there be further degrading or limit in the conversion? Jovision which I own but doesn't have alarm outputs use *.mp3 that can be played directly in any players. What about Hikvision? Geovision? Axis and others? What file formats did they use? What are the advantage and disadvantage of different file formats. I need to get a second nvr to take advantage of alarm outputs so may as well not missed out the file format feature and advantage. Is it true only proprietary formats are admissible in court? Is this true in all countries?

They tested that new model 4 channel NVR 4204-P. It can't do more than 1080p on more than one channel, the rest 720p. It makes sense. Think of it. 5MP using H.264 and 30fps would consume 20Mbps. 4 Channel would be 80Mbps. Why would they put 200Mbps bandwith in 4 channel with each having 50Mbps (equal to maybe 10MP). So the 200Mbps spec is only for 32 channels. But they put the 4 channel model in the same description making people think it can really do 200Mbps. Anyone who actually own an NVR 4204-P, pls. clarify. I'm thinking whether to buy it later.. if it's worth it to get just 4 channel with 1 1080p only or wait for at least 8 channel with 2-4 1080p simultaneous record.

monitor can't continuously display multiple channels
aurmol posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Have anyone come across this? When I set my NVR to 4 channel multiple views in my monitor, it would display it for a second then it will switch to alternate full screen from one channel to another. There is no setting for such choice. Why can't I view it 4 channels in one screen? Is there a minimum monitor requirements for display multiple channels? -
http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr4204420842164232-p-639.html Shockwave, let me ask you something rather than start a new thread. Months ago I read in archive you said it's a mystery how can the dahua nvr 4204/8 series with 200Mbps throughput (see details above) can be so cheap than higher models with lower throughput and something's not right.. what have you found out after all these months? My local dealer insists the 4 channel 4204 can only record 1 channel of 1080p and 4 channels of 720p. What's the connection between the 200Mbps throughput and recording? It can support 128 simultaneous users so maybe the thoughput is really the login?

for example.. you saw remotely in your dvr or nvr something such as certain action and you want to trigger an alarm, strobe light or even siren remotely at will (without using motion detection or the alarm input/output of the dvr/nvr).. what device do you use where you can toggle the trigger device remotely on and off?
