Individual power supplies for the cameras and/or active baluns at the head end. Doug

I'm not an expert in this but, from everything I've read and heard regarding digital video evidence, its possible that it won't get admitted into court if the video has been converted from its original or native format, even then MPEG4 may have some problems. The prosecutor would or should know more about this, and to be honest I'm surprised that you still have the DVR in your possesion, I would have thought that the DVR would be tagged and locked up in the evidence room to be taken into court. If the video is to be converted let the prosecutor and/or the PD handle it, and since this is a criminal case it would seem that the chain of evidence has long been broken. Doug

Best type of crimpable BNC connector?
Doug replied to RichTJ99's topic in General Digital Discussion
In my opinion, the four choices, in order of preference would be Three piece BNC crimp on Two piece BNC crimp on Electrical tape and chewing gum One piece BNC twist on Doug -
I haven't used Geovision for a while, but we always used to disable the blinking eyes by editing the GeoBrand.Ini file ( in the windows directory), changing the Brand=0 to Brand=1 would remove the blinking eyes. Don't know about the the later versions but it worked on the 6.xx versions Doug

I'll be there

Oops, that supposed to be parts & labour for 1 year Doug
-
We guarantee parts 7 labour for 1 year, but it has to depend on how much you are building in to the price to cover any warranty issues. Too many companies don't appear to take into account the very real cost of providing an on site warranty when pricing their systems. Doug L

If the pole has enough room in it, then drop 1/2" aluminum flex down inside the pole to keep the low voltage seperate from the high voltage lighting circuits Doug

To clarify, these are 16 channel - 120fps cards

watchdog is shotting down geovision, how can I disable that?
Doug replied to mysticav's topic in Geovision
Its been a while since I've used Geo, but I seem to recall the Geohealth.ini in the windows directory contains the switch for the software watchdog. Doug -
There are a couple of adapters on this page that may be what you are looking for http://www.adtek.net/OBSaccessories.html Doug L

They send me literature periodically and maybe call me about twice a year trying to sell their products, but thats nothing unusual, I personally wouldn't describe them as desperate but I really don't know, what I do know is that the only product I have used of theirs is the 'camera master' and that pretty much does exactly what they said it would.. Doug

I don't know about any salespeople they have or had, but I went to their facility a couple of years ago to pick up a "camera master" test meter and they certainly manufactured that at their own facility. From the look of their fairly small place I would say that they design, test and at least manufacturer the initial product runs in house, some of the equipment they may send out for manufacturer and some they may buy and rebrand, who knows for sure, but from what I saw I would say they do most work in house at least for the test equipment anyway. I think they do much more business in broadcast and cable TV than they do in CCTV Doug L

So could a standard IDE drive could be installed as a replacement in the GE/Kalatel and the machine will format the disk without any special preperation before installation?, if so do you know what is the maximum hard drive size that could be installed in a GE DVMR ? Doug

The fact that you can see video on a composite monitor in no way guarantees that the video will appear on a digital system, a large number of cheap (and some not so cheap ) cameras on the market put out signals greatly exceeding the recognised standards. Most analog devices will accept the out of spec signal without any problems, not all digital systems will. You will probably need to attenuate the signal or replace the cameras For further information you could take a look at http://www.fmsystems-inc.com/articles.htm and select DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER PROBLEM SOLVING Doug L

I've seen this on several occasions using passive baluns and DVRs, it can normally be resolved by using independant power supplies for each camera. Try using four plug in transformers on a power strip instead of the multi camera power supply. If that doesn't work then try using active baluns at the head end. Doug

I've used a couple of 16 channel webgate machines, I wasn't too impressed with the local video, but over a LAN it was OK. If I recall correctly, the default frame rate over the network is very low and if you want it higher then you have to adjust each cameras rate individually every time you log in over the network as the settings aren't saved Doug

I have several genuine Geo 800-16 cards, they are all used but in perfect working order, some of them are almost new. I would be willing to swap 3 of them for the V7 cards (if they are genuine Geo cards) I am also looking to sell the other cards and it will probqably be easier to sell V7 cards rather than V6.. I removed about twenty GV-800-16 (some of them are older versions) cards from a customer who didn't like a couple of the characteristics of the Geovision. All of the cards have D connectors and pigtails for the BNC connectors Doug

I get the feeling that you could ask ten different people and get ten different answers, I could be wrong but I have always taken images per second and frames per second to be the same, the only confusion I have seen is where the term FPS is used to describe both fields and frames per second. One frame (or image) being two fields. Its entirely possible that its me thats confused and that my understanding of an image and a frame being the same is wrong. Doug
-
Its not how I understand it, my summary would be 1 Frame per second = 1 Image per second = 1 picture per second = 2 fields per second Doug
-
GPS=Geovision versions per second Doug
-
The confusion isn't so much between IPS and FPS, its that FPS is being used to describe both fields and frames per second. If you ask someone who has used the term FPS if they mean fields or frames per second, for the most part they have a puzzled look on their face and say "whats the difference" Doug

If I recall correctly it was cat 3 twisted pair cable Doug

I've used active NVT baluns over existing PBX telco cable between a golf clubhouse and a hotel, the distance was about 3/4 mile. The picture quality was very good, but they were only b/w cameras. If I recall the cable was cat 3 but if I was laying new cable I would use direct burial cat 5. Doug
