I have a CCTV system from Speco Technologies. I'm having an enormous problem with their older DVR D4VXV2. I'm on my 3rd unit and if it isn't one thing it's another. Most of this seems to center on the PC software. Right now the communication between the desktop and the DVR is almost non-existent. Looking in my Routers active client list, the DVR's static IP address is not there. The only way it ever shows now is with a reboot of the DVR and that only holds for 20 or seconds, then it drops. I have reset the Router to defaults twice and updated the F?W with no change. The only thing I haven't done is a direct connection between the DVR and the Windows 7 Tower. The other two units had other issues, the 2nd also had a connection issue, but not like this. Anyone out there that has similar model can chime in? I have contacted the manufacture, but no luck or solution there. I opened a command prompt and typed in 'ping' w/ the address. It returned 3 lines, then closed before it finished the process. I did it 3 times with the same result. The Speco cameras are NOT IP, but coaxial. The access is LAN (local) not remote. Any questions, please ask.

Speco tech CCTV system connections issues
videobruce replied to videobruce's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Since no one replied, the problem was/is the software. I went back to the old version from a year ago, and that seems to run fine. There are far more details than that, but that should suffice. -
I wouldn't touch them with a 10' pole ! 3919 Secure Equipment Act of 2021 requires the FCC to no longer approve or review applications for equipment that pose an unacceptable risk to national security. This follows an earlier FCC intention to ban five specific Chinese manufacturers including Hikvision, Dahua, Huawei, Hytera, and ZTE.

Both Speco Technologies and Hanwha Techwin/Wisenet are using .exe as a choice to save recordings. .exe is an MS executable, not a media format. Why on earth are they doing this? The other choice is the 31 year old, grossly outdated Windows 3.1 .avi format which I understand was a good recording format quality wise at the time.. Now it's not and the files are reported to be HUGE! Why aren't they using .mp4 or even .mkv which is open source?

.exe file extension for recording backup

Software? .mp4 and .mkv are codec containers for recording formats. Anyway, what does that have to do with the recordings being used or not used in court? -
Narrow angle long distance IR spot light
videobruce posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I have a nighttime specific situation. I need a IR spotlight to cover a area around 12-15' wide at a distance of 45' from the camera. The IR light would be mounted on a front porch directed to the area just past the sidewalk. This involves vandalism of a sign at the curb. Also, I would be using a Bosch analog camera as of now. Are there any IR spotlights (as opposed to 'flood'lights) out there, I haven't found any with initial searches. -
Not to make things worse, but as soon as I saw the unit in their spec sheet, I knew it wasn't a PTZ camera due to the lack of it's size. I was surprised that it had a motorized varifocal zoom according to the specs. It does list it as "simple focus" whatever that means. The other questionable 'function' is; "Pan / Tilt / Rotate Range Remote adjustment (Max. 200cycles) ±175˚ / 0~85˚ / ±175˚" This is a strange animal.

Thank you for the reply, I would of responded sooner, but I didn't get notification of as reply. Let me ask this; is it because the IR spectrum is out of the visible range, the camera has to be changed over to the IR range from the visible range? Doing so electronically gives the same results as a IR lens filter or is there a trade off between the two methods?

My cameras are Bosch analog. I need to provide nighttime illumination for one of them. Will a IR light fixture work?

Narrow angle long distance IR spot light

Of the ones that list a degree spread (probably less than half of them) the two common + & - spreads are 60 and 90 degrees. I was looking for more like 45 degrees. -
Are all BNC cables compatible
videobruce replied to Pres's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
As long as it is 75 ohm cable. Those colors are usually used for RCA 'phono' plugs analog audio & video. You are familiar with a BNC type of plug vs a RCA plug? -
That was the problem or the solution? Come to think of it, a poor ground with the coaxial cable feed from a specific camera can do that also.

Stand alone, internal memory, programmable outdoor camera
videobruce posted a topic in Security Cameras
I need a camera for a specific area due to vandalizing. as follows; Dome or turret (perfer dome) camera with a white enclosure, Clear 'bubble', Zoom lens (4-6x ok), Internal easily removable memory card (I perfer SD), Stand along operation, doesn't have to be tied to a system, Programmable record times & duration (at least 12 hrs), 1080p, but 720p is probably fine, Nightime use, but no IR's unless defeatable, HD-TVI, no wireless or 'IP'. The stand along is paramount where it will record either continuously over at least 12 hours, or take 'stills' every (say) 10 seconds. This won't be tied into an existing analog system (that are only cameras, not recorder). If & when a occurrence happens, I can reach the camera body to remove the card to xfer to a PC for a printout. I started looking around and it seems IP dominates the market. I see some do have internal memory, but it looks like they have to be tied into a IP system. I can supply separate power ok as this will be under a front porch facing the front lawn which is around 30' x 30'. Input? -

Separate power feed from a nearby outlet (something I normally don't do, but I need this to be separate from the existing analog cameras). -

I have seen plenty of posts of connectivity issues and I'm not referring to wireless. My point was and is, you don't need IP cameras to access them remotely as long as you have a DVR, or NVR if you prefer. -

Then how is a IP camera different? It's still another 'format' (for lack of a better term) since it needs electronics to convert that signal to something that is recordable?? Yes there is. First, for the reason I'm looking for this; recording from a single camera, separate from any other camera(s) as in stand alone. And, when I upgrade, I plan on using TVI. Using a IP camera would be a waste. UP cameras are overrated, too many issues with them. As long as the DVR has a IP connection, remote access is there. Correct me if I am wrong, but when one access a IP camera it's done thru the DVR, correct? You don't go directly to the camera bypassing the DVR, correct? -

There are no TVI cameras with internal memory??? -
You hit the nail right on the head. " title="Applause" />

Are there any TVI DVR's that use memory cards, at least as an option so a HDD wouldn't be required? I only need short term recording 24 hrs (maybe 48), 4 cameras now, 8 max (maybe).

No idea what a "game camera" was until I clicked on your link, but I would of known what a wildlife camera was. Interesting, but that would never blend in where it would be placed by a long shot. The house trim is white. It's not practicable for a fence for numerous reasons and it wouldn't of stopped what happened. The zoom function is for initial setup. Once set, it's done. I would access the camera directly by pulling the card if there was a need to do so. This supplements an existing analog camera which has no DVR (not that, that would matter). -
I think you need to read the 1 star reviews; https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1VXGP3TOKJAE9/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B015121KH8 That is the FIRST thing I do when I shop Amazon, I only read the 1, 2 & 3 star reviews adding those percentages to make a judgment call. $200 is nothing for 4 cameras & a DVR. That should buy 2 decent cameras.

Could be a ground loop.

It called overshoot (white outlines) & undershoot (black outlines) due to excessive analog enhancement. A age old problem with analog video. If the camera has a 'sharpness', detail or aperture setting tine that down a bit. Also, the same goes for your monitor (especially if it is analog) if it has a similar setting.

I always look for a zoom lens. It's worth spending more for the flexibility. -
Looking to buy outdoor wireless IP security cameras
videobruce replied to diitto's topic in Security Cameras
1. Forget wireless. nothing but a problem!! 2. Have you considered TVI? No IP hassles. Less headaches. You can still access the cameras remotely thru the DVR (if equipped).
