  1. So the offshore fishing trip has now become suspect??? Here have some koolaid! It's delicious! Hey FRY!! You can have your thread back now!!!!
  2. The DVR is 150. If you cannot see this on the LAN then we have to resolve this issue first. As we are not familiar with this DIY device then we will have to rely on your observations. What is a disavantage for us is we know without "thinking" what we need to do to make things work. We might assume you have done something that we expect you to do, and in reality you have not. You may have done something that we would not do, and we are "blind" to your action. We will have to figure a way to create documentation where we both can compare notes, and both be on the same page. _____________________________________________________________ Please go to http://ipchicken.com/ and give us this number. Please do an IP config on the local computer to the CCTV device, and give us the list of information. This will be the start of our "documentation". Lets roll up our sleeve, and have some "mental" fun!

    Greetings from Shenzhen China

    Hello! Welcome to the forum!
  4. I am sorry. I am not familiar with this device. It will not record on quad 2 while watching quad 1, and I have never looked at this device further. You can hook up motion detectors to this device to get it to record on the quad 2 cameras. I have never been able to find any documentation on which ports need to be opened. If you have it in a DMZ with all ports open then I do not see what is causing your problem. Can you see your cameras on your local lan?
  5. You got that right! LOL! You were given a LifeTime Memebership prepaid. You must have missed the memo. My what? With purchase then tech support is free, (with some limitations). I try to figure things out over the phone, and then I will drive out to the location. If the DVR is not recording then I am out there right away. Without purchase, then I will give you 15 minutes of free time to take a look at "it", but they have to bring it to the shop themselves. If it can be worked on then I will quote a price for repairs. If I fix it, I may not charge so that I can gain a customer. If I have to drive out to a location then it is $50 for residential, and $100.00 for commercial. I try not to charge $100.00 just to plug the power strip back in. I try to explain that you cannot unplug the cord from the wall to make room for another plug, and that the power strip will not work when it is plugged in to itself. If a stranger with a product comes in with an attitude, and it is not a product that we sold, then I may not help him/her at all!
  6. I do a lot of "Gentlemen's Clubs" and I was afraid to ask! I think he meant to camp with a tent?
  7. I do not know why, but this quote kept "ringing" in my head. As I thought about it. I remember in the old days as a kid where I would be standing at an open window, and I would be looking at a TV, and I would be screaming out the window "right there dad! No, you went to far! Turn it back a little! No, the other way!" My dad would be up on the roof reorienting the TV antenna after it blew "off course" from the wind. In those days didn't everybody do their own antenna? We used any kind of pipe we could find! If it was in a garbage pile, and it was long, then it was gone!! As that quote went through my head I think about today where I call a cable company to come out, and resolve my issues. They used to run a cable for free, but now they charge for that. Will there be a company that rents you CCTV equipment in the future, and we just call them to resolve an issue?? In the future will everyone stop looking for those "long pipes in the garbage" and rely on a company to do it for us? In the future what CCTV company will have the JD POWERS trophy to claim number one in customer service? As I see it, down the road the DIY will probably go by the way side for the majority of us. I see a day where the mega corps will be buying out every mom n pop CCTV business, and forming a giant consortium. HMMMM. Food for thought!

    Pinhole vs actual lens question

I do alot of enty level installs. As long as you are aware of your limitations then you will be fine. You will want a bullet camera. Measure where you are going to mount it to the area where you are going to view. Double this distance for your infared. If you buy a 30 feet IR camera then it is going to be effective at 15 feet. If you measure 30 feet then you will want a 60 feet IR camera at a minimum. Do not put a powerful IR camera for short distances, as you will wash out the person you are watching. Put a 10,000 candle power search light in your face at 10 feet, and you will not be able to make out a face. Lens selection is the next step. I recommend a vari focal. You spend more on it, but then you get flexability.
  9. Cameras in billboards gather data http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser?Action=UserDisplayFullDocument&orgId=563&docId=l:800140637&topicId=13717&start=2&topics=single Copyright 2008 International Herald Tribune The International Herald Tribune May 31, 2008 Saturday FINANCE; Pg. 21 1149 words Watching the watchers: Cameras in billboards gather data Stephanie Clifford - The New York Times Media Group NEW YORK In advertising these days, the prize goes to those who can measure everything - how many people see a particular ad, when they see it, who they are. All of which is easy on the Internet, and getting easier on television and radio. Billboards, on the other hand, are a different story. For the most part, they are still a relic of old-world media, and the best estimates about viewership numbers come from foot traffic counts or highway reports, neither of which can guarantee that the people on hand were really looking. Now some entrepreneurs have stepped forward with a technology to solve the problem. They are equipping billboards with tiny cameras that gather details about the passers-by - their gender, approximate age and how long they looked at a billboard. These details are transmitted to a central database. Behind the technology are small start-ups that say they are not storing actual images of the passers-by, so privacy should not be a concern. The cameras, they say, use software to determine that a person is standing in front of a billboard, then analyze facial features (like cheekbone height and the distance between the nose and the chin) to judge the person's gender and age. So far they are not using race as a parameter, but they say that they can and will soon. The goal, these companies say, is to tailor a digital display to the person standing in front of it - to show one advertisement to a middle-aged white woman, for example, and a different one to a teenage Asian boy. Last weekend, a Quividi camera was installed on a billboard on 8th Avenue near Columbus Circle in New York that was playing a trailer for the ''Andromeda Strain,'' a miniseries on a cable channel. ''I didn't see that at all, to be honest,'' said Sam ****s, a 26-year-old attorney, when the camera was pointed out to him by a reporter. ''That's disturbing. I would say it's arguably an invasion of one's privacy.'' Organized privacy groups agree, though so far the practice of monitoring billboards is too new and minimal to have drawn opposition. But the placement of surreptitious cameras in public places has been a flash point in London, where cameras are used to fight crime, as well as in the Manhattan borough of New York, where there is a similar initiative. What do you think?

    Cameras in billboards gather data

NO. I cannot take claim to that website. _____________________________________________________________ I was going to buy www.scorpionsecurity.com, and I was doing a search, and it was available. I was going to buy it the next day. Low, and behold this jerk is aware of it somehow, and he goes, and buys it out from under me!! I contacted him about selling it to me, and he wanted 6 figures! I did not mind that someone beat me to the punch, but really gets my goat is that he is not using the domain!!! He just has it parked so he can make money off of it with advertising! Now that really stirs the bees nest. It makes me feel the same way when I see a high performance antique sports car, and it is being driven under the speed limit, and it is only used to buy groceries once a week, and the carb/injectors never get to open up, and breath. You do not give a greyhound a desk job! I think this guy pays a fee to see what domains are looked up. I believe he buys them to see if he can flip them. I do not know what service it is, but it has to be through sedo somehow. I started searching all kinds of crud domains, and I had my friends do it to. The domains are only $8.00, but if he bought half of what we searched then he has shelled out some serious cash! Now he is down to $1500.00!! I guess no one wanted it, and he is stuck with it!! I want it, but maybe I wait till it gets down to $500.00 just for spite! LOL!

How did you go from an Astak dvr and four cameras to a G4 RTA 4 ch?? Kind of two different selections from polar opposites????? Did the Astak come with wireless, or wired cameras? Did you have 3 DVRs, or 3 cameras fail? Sounds kind of strange?

    Pinhole vs actual lens question

Please do not buy a camera based on whether it is a Pinhole, or other kind of lense camera. What you need to do is decide on whether you want a V8, or an inline 4 cylinder engine. Will you be towing trailers for commercial construction? Will you be towing your recreational boat? Will you drive 30 miles one way to work, and back another 30, and gas conservation is of the essence? Do you care about resell value? Will this be mounted to an automatic transmission, or to a manual? Is this a weekend race car warrior? Do you gamble your pink slip? If you loose can you afford to part with your car? Will this be used for deliving mail with lots of stop, and go? Will you be driving long haul? From coast to coast? I know I sound sarcastic, and I do not mean to. I just want you to put some thought in to your selection. Let me give you a sample installation. I have a beer pub with a tight budget, but they are having issues. Here is a worthless DVR, but it is "OK" for viewing over the internet. http://eclipsecctv.com/comet9_security_DVR.html For the front door, and the back door, and the office door I will use this camera. http://www.avsdvr.com/?s=product&sub=camera&cat=outdoor&p=vnd49ir OK! It is not God's gift to CCTV, but for the budget this will work. It is varifocal so later down the road when he has a new issue, then he can point it in a new direction, and change the lens setting to solve that problem, and then it can point it back to where he needs it. This can be taken outdoors for a new problem, and then brought back inside. For the pool tables, dart boards, and table, and chair areas then I will use something like this http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-374.html The bar ceiling is painted black. This will hide very well in the club. If you need something covert then I use these! YES! I USE THESE IN VERY DARK CLUBS! Believe it or not! This is great for the office, or in a store room, or a liquor storage area! http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-PIR.html OK! This is not the reference standard for installing a CCTV system, and I do not recommend it. If a bar owner is on a budget, and this is all that he has to work with then that is fine. I will have him sign more paper work than a mortgage to get me off the hook for everything! Now the bar owner can watch a cash register, or an ATM machine, or watch the manager counting cash in the office from home, or from a vacation hideaway. He can watch what is going on around the pool tables, or the dart boards. If something is spotted on one of those cheesy one inch by one inch mini camera then you can always go to the front door camera to get the facial shot of the guy. Notice that the system is flexable. Indoors/outdoors, wide angle, reg angle,or a little bit of zoom! Move the cables to the left, or to the right with the minis, and use them where ever you need them! _____________________________________________________________ Lense selection is important also. Do you want a 4mm, 6mm, or a 12mm lens?? There is a distance distortion when you use wide angle lenses. Something at 20 feet will appear farther away in the video compared to reality. You will not get facial recognition with wide angle cameras! Match the camera to the job. Do not match the job to work with the camera! See what I mean? What do you think?

GT_Cameras I agree with you 100%!! Both!! As buyers become more aware of the product then they will buy it. As buyers become more aware of price points then they will buy it. As sellars try to make the investors happy, then they have to move the product as fast as they can, and keep the headroom down low, and cut out the money that should have been spent on tech support, and a help desk. When the investors see another market that will give them the high return on investment that they look for, then they will get out of the CCTV market, and go elsewhere. Right now product went from 100s of unit sold per year to millions of units sold per year. Are we at the top of the apogee? What happens when the investors get out? Has enough research and development been accomplished to sustain the CCTV business? Will the investors hang in there until the market becomes so oversaturated that it will cause a price crash, and high inventory levels?? I saw this with the CB market as a kid. Everyone was making CB, and everyone was selling them, and then boom! I saw this again with the coin operated amusement machines. There was a Mrs Pac Man in every restaurant, coin laundry, and the 7-11s! I owned 3 game rooms in the very early 80s, and I saw the writing on the wall! I closed my lowest earning place, and concentrated on my big one. I got out of the game room business, and sold my route, and went into the icecream business. Just as the coin op crashed I was sitting pretty! I sold the stand up games a couple of years ago, but I miss my Robotron among others! I am for that! If it was not for technology (mass production) then we would not be able to afford to drive cars! Now everyone in the US has one! Once everyone has a system it will become a commodity just like a washer, dryer, refridgerator, and a microwave. Can you remember when only the "rich" had microwaves?? I remember my dad when he came home with this gadget in the early 70s. He was all proud of himself because he could afford one finally! It could add, it could subtact, and it could multiply, and better yet it could divide!! Price?? $70.00 in 1972. Guess how long the batteries lasted!! LOL!! OK. There is still a calculator market, but then again you can go to Wally World, and you can buy one for $5.00. If you are an accountant they have $300.00 units that are commercial grade, and they have printers, and other features. When will Sears sell DVRs next to plasma, and LCD TVs?? There is a sucker born every minute! Once the consumer becomes more aware of these products then they will demand better quality! There will be a "Crazy Al's" CCTV world, and they will sell junk at cheap prices, and there will be one on every corner! Come on down to Crazy Al's CCTV World!! Come on down to CCTV King! They will be on the other side of the corner!! LOL!! Then there will be a serious store that will advertise, promote, and they will become the defacto standard for quality DVRS. Their grandkids will still be rich long after all of us have died. DVRs will be called by that name, and they will loose the name of their business like Frisbee, and YO YO, and other names we all have become accustomed to. There are no "high profit margins" when they are sold at low prices. Your profit comes from the margins. You will have to sell in volume to survive. Wally World will crush a few manufactures in the process, but everyone will have a CCTV DVR in every room!! This is why there are recalls on baby chairs, baby cribs ect. Well, yes of course I care for my kid, but I did not know that the crib would trap his/her head, and choke them to death? I am not a bad parent!! I am just cheap! I use these for license plate recognition!! LOL!
  20. You both got it wrong!!! I was looking for cougars!!!! RRRRRRRRRRR!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_disparity_in_sexual_relationships
  21. This is the best sales pitch I have ever heard in favor of a stand alone DVR! I think I am going to use this in my flyers, and my website! LOL! Yes! They do! They put on hats, and sunglasses before they walk in to a bank, and they make a request written on paper!!
  22. I just got back from lunch at 1:45, and I was feeling sleepy. I think my alter ego wrote the post! Hey Rick, First time I have never heard any complaints about my "novels"!!! LOL!!

    Say Hi

Hello! Welcome to the threads! Thank you for the picture! We are really devastated to hear of the news! Our prayers go out to the families. Children dying needlessly! I think people can feel this pain no matter what ones religion, or way of life. Tragedy has a way of bringing everyone together. I hope this brings us all closer together, and I hope we can become friends rather than two opposing forces in the world.
