Amazing! It must have really been a dream come true. An adventure of a lifetime. It will be amazing in the years to come to be able to take your grandchildren on a journey about an Olympic Event from the "past". I hope you will share your photos with us. You describe your adventure well! We look forward to where we can work with the software that you have described. Thanks! -

What philosophy (approach) to take with selecting cameras?

Try this for a demo. http://www.securicorp.com/remote-cctv-demo.html scroll down to the bottom for AVTech. Here is another brutally honest link. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=65138&highlight=#65138 Have you poked around my website about AVTech DVRs? -
That is a budget verse the job of the camera verses the environment that the camera is going into. High threat situation? Forget the bullet. You can take a broom and smack it in to a different direction so that you can steal what you want. Budget? Bullet is the way to go. Budget with some threat? http://www.avsdvr.com/?s=product&sub=camera&cat=outdoor&p=vnd49ir Low threat, higher then entry level budget? Get an impact resistant dome that has high resolution that provides excellant video.

What philosophy (approach) to take with selecting cameras?

If you read alot of these posts, and threads then you will see that I am a big user of AVTech DVRs, and at the same time I am spell out the biggest flaws of the AVTech. Please excuse my duality. I would have you rethink the AVTech DVR. If you are on a budget then I am the biggest supporter. If you plan on doing alot of viewing over the internet then I encourage you to do a demo of one before you buy one! The webserver that they use is below par. I love the DVR, but the server has got to go!! I would recommend the ICRealtime if you plan on using it for internet viewing. You will also want to test the PTZ with an AVTech DVR. It may work fine without any issues, and then again you may find that it may not work as smooth as you would like. Do you have a storefront close to you where you can take a good look at one? -

Nice one! -
HQ1 is new to us, and we are still learning about it. PC DVRs are having problems with the HQ1 Chipset. Standalones so far have not had issues, but it is possible that high end DVRs that are more PC based may have some issues. You will be testing this on your own. Then again all cameras react differently in every type of environment. There are cameras that I would swear that they would work fine, and then I get embarrassed! There are cameras that I would never install, but I test them for "giggles" sake, and low, and behold they work like a champ!! Who knew?

I doubt you can achieve this. You will need these also. monitor caulk screws wall anchors wall plates trim rings spray foam for attic holes You can do this but you will get stuck with stuff you will regret later. You will really have to shop around to get these prices. Be careful as the cheap DVR might be on a reconditioned status! -

This is the perfect one for buying cameras! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy Skepticism Skepticism is a philosophical attitude that questions the possibility of obtaining any sort of knowledge. It was first articulated by Pyrrho, who believed that everything could be doubted except appearances. Sextus Empiricus (2nd century CE) describes skepticism as an "ability to place in antithesis, in any manner whatever, appearances and judgments, and thus […] to come first of all to a suspension of judgment and then to mental tranquility."[15] Skepticism so conceived is not merely the use of doubt, but is the use of doubt for a particular end: a calmness of the soul, or ataraxia. Skepticism poses itself as a challenge to dogmatism, whose adherents think they have found the truth.[16] Sextus noted that the reliability of perception may be questioned, because it is idiosyncratic to the perceiver. The appearance of individual things changes depending on whether they are in a group: for example, the shavings of a goat's horn are white when taken alone, yet the intact horn is black. A pencil, when viewed lengthwise, looks like a stick; but when examined at the tip, it looks merely like a circle. Skepticism was revived in the early modern period by Michel de Montaigne and Blaise Pascal. Its most extreme exponent, however, was David Hume. Hume argued that there are only two kinds of reasoning: what he called probable and demonstrative (cf Hume's fork). Neither of these two forms of reasoning can lead us to a reasonable belief in the continued existence of an external world. Demonstrative reasoning cannot do this, because demonstration (that is, deductive reasoning from well-founded premises) alone cannot establish the uniformity of nature (as captured by scientific laws and principles, for example). Such reason alone cannot establish that the future will resemble the past. We have certain beliefs about the world (that the sun will rise tomorrow, for example), but these beliefs are the product of habit and custom, and do not depend on any sort of logical inferences from what is already given certain. But probable reasoning (inductive reasoning), which aims to take us from the observed to the unobserved, cannot do this either: it also depends on the uniformity of nature, and this supposed uniformity cannot be proved, without circularity, by any appeal to uniformity. The best that either sort of reasoning can accomplish is conditional truth: if certain assumptions are true, then certain conclusions follow. So nothing about the world can be established with certainty. Hume concludes that there is no solution to the skeptical argument – except, in effect, to ignore it.[17] Even if these matters were resolved in every case, we would have in turn to justify our standard of justification, leading to an infinite regress (hence the term regress skepticism).[18][19] Many philosophers have questioned the value of such skeptical arguments. The question of whether we can achieve knowledge of the external world is based on how high a standard we set for the justification of such knowledge. If our standard is absolute certainty, then we cannot progress beyond the existence of mental sensations. We cannot even deduce the existence of a coherent or continuing "I" that experiences these sensations, much less the existence of an external world. On the other hand, if our standard is too low, then we admit follies and illusions into our body of knowledge. This argument against absolute skepticism asserts that the practical philosopher must move beyond solipsism, and accept a standard for knowledge that is high but not absolute. -
Yes. er no! Ok. How about a flash light. two AA batteries. It can shine up to a distance. If you stand in front of the flashlight your face is washed out, and if you move back a bit you are illuminated perfectly, and if you move out to the outer range of the beam the light is there, but you are not illuminated properly as we can see your form, but not the details. Take the IR range, and cut it in half at small distances. If it is rated at 30 feet, then it will be effective at 15 feet from the camera. What you really need to do is to measure from where the camera will be mounted out to where the "target" area is or where the camera is watching. Take this measurement and double that for your IR distance. IR works better when there are things to bounce off of (just like the umbrella at the photographer). If it can bounce off the ground, and the underside of the canopy of large trees the better. The worst place for me is watching a boat on a dock. There is nothing for the IR to bounce off of! Yes! This is great for trouble shooting also! No glow no power! Get a varifocal lens. This will help to get the right shot! But! There is another benefit. Later down the road you may have a new "event" that you will want to capture. You will not have to go out and buy another camera. You can adjust the camera, and point it to another area, and when you are done you can turn it back, and adjust the varifocal back to where it was till the next new "emergency". At a minimum you will need a 60foot IR range. The IR LEDs have to match the lens. You will need long throw IR for zoom lens (or varifocal that is set for zoom), and you will need wide dispersion LEDs for wide angle lens, or better is to have both LED types on the camera, or the illuminator. Paint the camera black, or green or what ever the color of the tree is. Do not forget about winter time!! When the tree is bare the camera will stick out like a sore thumb! Take some hot glue, or some silicone, and glue bark to it, and glue on a branch, and some stems to get it to blend it. You can wait till winter to get this effect, and then you can just LEAVE it that way!! LOL Sorry! I could not help myself! Yes. It will trigger motion detection. You can cut down by getting a DVR that has motion masking. Cars driving by at night will do the same. You will have more than 2 - 3 trigger per week. The camera is outdoors. You might, might be able to achieve this inside of a dwelling, but not in the open. 2 triggers is sun rise, and sunset!! Does the shed have power? Does the place have internet? Does the place get a cell phone signal? Is there a corporation such a "Tennessee Gas" or some such business that would have a wi fi connection that you could pay to use?

DM Sprite II Network Problems ( Resolved)
scorpion replied to scorpion's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Here seems to be the problem. I can log in with the regular viewer and everything works fine. I then use the Admin selection to go in to the menu pages of the DVR. I was creating a fuss with the DVR by logging in with video. I should have been logging in to Admin view without video. I could access the DVR menu then it would appear to lock up. Here is what I have to do. I need to log in to the admin viewer without video then select the menu button. I then get out of the admin viewer, and I still have the regular viewer. I go back in to the Admin view where now the Password is being requested. I enter my password, and everything works like it should. _____________________________________________________________ Note: If the DVR has the menu page up, and then you remote in to the admin viewer you will be locked out until the DVR is out of the menu page. I kept locking myself out during some testing. -
I have a DM DSII I been having problems with the viewers for menu access. The Network viewer on several computers is working fine. I can remote access the video, and I can add/delete users, and change camera names. Where all chaos hits the fan is when I activate Remote Network Support (RNS). It does not matter whether I use the click on option in the Network Viewer, or if I hit the icon from the desk top for Network Admin. I can press menu on the RNS, and on my live view monitor I can see the menu come up, and on the computer monitor I can see the same (with time lag). While I am pressing the menu button on the RNS it will freeze up at some point in time. On some screens I have to wait for it to "load" such as cameras. This will show which channels have video, and it will highlight which channels that do not have video. This screen never finishes loading. Right away I can close out the viewer, and log back in, and click the menu button, and watch the changes, then it will lock up again. If I am not fast enough to get out of the viewer once it locks up then I get those "send to Microsoft error messages" on the screen, then I get a lot of error messages right on top of each other. (this is a fun game to hit "ok" fast enough before the next one comes up. If you are accurate with you targeting, and you are fast enough you can close out all of the messages, and if you can get to the first one posted then you can clear the desk top of these messages. If you let it run away from you then you have to restart the computer. The port for the DVR is set for 8234. In the Netopia Modem 3347 I opened pinholes (ports) 8234 8235 8236 8237 8238 This is when I could first access video with the Network Viewer. With the Remote Network Support V2.0 I can see video, but with Remote Network Support V2.1 I could not see video on this. I opened port 8233 8232 This allowed me to see video with Remote Network Support V2.1 Now all I have to do is make everything function! I am assuming (yes, I know what they say), that I just need to open the right port to make things smooth. Any ideas? _____________________________________________________________ For the curious: I have two Remote Network Support versions on different computers, (not to be confused with Network Viewer which is just the plain screen for only watching video where the RNS lets you in to the DVR menu remotely). RNS V2.0 RNS V2.1 Here is the question that I have: Will the Network Viewer have Version numbers? I have one that gives me the tabs in setup mode Password / Email / System The other one has an extra tab Password / Email / System / Camera I will assume the first one is V2.0 like the RNS, and the second one is V2.1 such as it's RNS. _____________________________________________________________ For those of you who are looking for DM links there are some posted here http://scorpiontheater.com/dm.aspx

AVC760 Video Server E recording -> converting to avi blac
scorpion replied to AnD's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Now that is interesting. I do not know if this can be done, but later after 5 pm or so I can try to take just the viewer, and "zip it" and see if I can email it to you. I do not know if you could delete the player, and then add the "new" one to the file or not?? Do you have the disk that came with the DVR? What do you think? -

I do not know what situation you may have in regards to the video coming up black. It appears that you are able to connect remotely, and that you do not have any router or port issues. My guess is that there is an issue with your computer. Have you tried other computers? Take a look at your internet option ADVANCED TABS and see if there is anything that may prevent your video from playing. Unfortunatly that is only my guess though. You should not need to add any other programs to make it work. -
I am looking at a night club that is doing some renovations, I was asked to do a little networking help, and some CCTV maintenance, and upgrades. 1. Add a wireless access point for the DJ booth. Through this access point there should be no access to the bars POS stations. 2. Add a wireless access point for the office. Same as above. 3. Add a backup dial up to the ATT DSL for the POS stations. ( I did not even know they had dialup as a backup anymore)! DSL starts in a stand alone office/building. A modem is connected to a router, and a single cat 5 is ran in to the second Main (Club) building to another office. This cat 5 is connected to another switch where the main pos is in the office, and 3 bar pos are attached, and there are no ports left open for expansion. I need to run another cat 5 from the main office to the bar office to provide internet, and wireless internet, and have it isolated from the pos side. What entry level ideas, and designs would you all recommend? I like the idea of having one device that provides a 4 port switch, Wireless G (802.11G), PC Card slot for a Mobile Broadband Data Card (cellular backup for the DSL), and some kind of feature that monitors your cellular usage and can alert you when you reach a predefined threshold to keep expenses in check, or somekind of dial up connection such as with the P-662H-D Series from ZyXEL. I doubt the owner would spend over $1000.00 for an everything in a box router. How would I set up a "double back bone" system where the POS stations are isolated. OK. I know a true hacker could probable get in to any system, but I just want to keep some pissed off DJ from accessing the POS, and creating some kind of havoc. If the POS goes down then the bar cannot make money, and to the owner money is of the essence. What are the pros, and the cons of the following? Who has worked with this equipment? http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&cid=1160093298732 http://www.buy.com/prod/linksys-rv042-router-4-x-10-100base-tx-1-x-10-100base-tx-1-x-10/q/loc/101/10373797.html http://www.zyxel.com/web/product_family_detail.php?PC1indexflag=20040812093058&CategoryGroupNo=EDAB97AD-4B8D-48E0-A5E8-859212B362CB http://www.proxicast.com/products/lc2features.htm http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/kr1-router/ http://www.rfwel.com/shop/product.php?productid=1034&cat=105&page=1 Thanks for your input!

I would hate to be a manufacture and have the public think that RS stands for "Really Sucks"!
