Note that the MPEG AVC 760 is now discontinued, and H.264 AVC791 is the standard. http://scorpiontheater.tech.officelive. ... l_V1.1.pdf -

In the years past I always thought they were one step behind the market, and their low price point allowed them to "dominate" the market once they caught up. Does it still seem like they are playing catchup? -
Any Inconvenience in Running Surveillance Security Systems??
scorpion replied to suky's topic in General Digital Discussion
I run mine 24/7. I mostly have to buy new sweat bands, and tennis shoes quite often! -
Do you have a camera? Perhaps you can take a picture of the inside. There might be two pins that are close together. IF it had a hardware reset then you would pull the plug from the DVR till it is completely powered down. You would short the two pins with a screwdriver, and then you would plug the power back in, and you would hold it till the last beep when it is starting. This is only a wild guess on my part as I cannot find any info about this DVR.

Do you have a hard drive straight out of the packaging (do not format on a PC) that you can test with?

Anyone know about Quality of Avtech camera?
scorpion replied to Sophie A's topic in Security Cameras
It would also depend on the model number of the camera. There are "kits" in a box that only come with one model of camera. These are usually bullet cameras. They will be wide angle, and great for watching a large peripheral area such as a yard, or drive way. If you need to watch something more than 20 feet from where the camera is mounted such as a street side mailbox then you will need a larger number millimeter lens. The wide angle cameras will be 3.8mm, or 4mm. To watch a mailbox you might need a 12mm, or higher. I order "self made kits" where I can pick and choose types, and styles of cameras. My favorite camera to order is a varifocal lens 4mm to 8mm and it can be wall mounted, top mounted, or ceiling mounted. You may not be happy with the entry level model bullet camera. You can throw the bullet cameras on the ground and they will still work (but I do not recommend that you do so). They are tough cameras. Make sure the kit comes with an H.264 DVR. You will be very happy! The older MPEG models are great! They are bullet proof, and run forever if you keep them plugged in to a battery back up with good line filtration. I have AVTech DVRs from 2005 still running! They may need fans replaced, or hard drives replaced every so often to prevent a total breakdown. Most problems with any brand DVR will be with power supplys, or hard drives. These things are working 24/7 and they absorb what ever abuse comes across the power lines if there is no filtration. Any questions? -

AV Tech DVR 760 (i think) Software (AP Software?)
scorpion replied to ittim's topic in General Digital Discussion
This is odd. You are using Dyndns so that should take care of any ip changes. You had it working, and now it is not. This is requires troubleshooting on the client side. Using log me in, and getting a connection tells me that everything was set up correctly. Can you ping from your home, or via logme in? -

Avtech 796 lack of email / ftp image or video
scorpion replied to Davedvr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
a picture with in the email is a lost option. I do not know how to send a picture with H.264. JPEG being a series of "photos" would allow one to be sent with a full picture. H.264 is only a change in motion, and it "updates" the new "snapshot" with the new movement, and it leaves out all of the details. This is how the compression is so tight. Less information, and better storage, or bandwith. I do not have a solution for your DVR. The newer DVRs are catering to the "Iphone" crowd, and Eagle Eyes from the Apple store will proved live viewing on the IPhone. Do you know any programmers who work with H.264 that can create something? -
AV Tech DVR 760 (i think) Software (AP Software?)
scorpion replied to ittim's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hello! You can use the PC to set up the DVR, or you can connect the monitor out of your DVR to the yellow video input on a TV with this: http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-1030_connector.html Here is where you can download the AP Software. If the DVR has an IDE hard drive then it came with Video Server E. If the DVR has a Sata hard drive then it came with Video Viewer. Video Viewer can be used on both DVRs as it is backwards compatable. Video Server E then use 1.0.6.9 Video Viewr then use 144. Any questions? -
To truely answer your question you would need to call a local computer / networking business to have them come out, and look at your system. Most residential, and light commercial businesses will have a modem. A wire goes from the modem to a router. The router will allow multiple computers, and netorked DVRs to plug in to the router. The DVR will need to be setup in the menu to match the router that you are using, and you will need to take the port number that the DVR uses, and you will need to perform a portforward in the router menu to allow the video to travel on the LAN, and the WAN. http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg

Avtech 796 lack of email / ftp image or video
scorpion replied to Davedvr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I miss understand. If someone stole your DVR you said that you will wanted to have video remotely stored. Email photos require JPEG. Your DVR is an 8 channel DVR using H.264. ____________________________________________________ I needed clarification on this. Are you saying that you would use a PC based surveillance card instead of a stand alone DVR? If someone stole this PC then how would you maintain video? Perhaps you are making a request, and I do not have all of the information to provide the proper advice. I guess I have failed miserably! Any commercial DVR can provide your requests. Perhaps you can trade in your residential model for a commercial product? How is your DVR stored? Do you have it in a lock box? http://www.middleatlantic.com/enclosure/wall/dlbx.htm -

Set up Video Viewer on a remote PC and enable recording. You can click on the film reel icon. You will want to use a good computer, and you will need to upsize the hard drive in the PC. -
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm Scroll down to your brand, and then click on your model. Click on the top right to get past an ad.

Mac and iPhone support for AvTech AVC760z
scorpion replied to fisics's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The Z series is the older version DVR. This has JPEG and MPEG. This model is coveted for the JPEG as it can send snapshots via email. This model has the old IDE style hard drives, and the costs of those hard drives are going up, and up. Over the internet the video does not look that great. You can set the DVR in to MPEG, but the built in web server transmits in JPEG. This version comes with Video Server E If you have a need for JPEG integration then this is the model to get. The newer version DVR is MPEG only. It cannot send snapshots via email. It transmits over the internet in MPEG. This model comes with Video Viewer. Video Viewer is backwards compatable with Video Server E model DVRs. Video Viewer is actually made for the H.264 model DVRs. The Eagle Eyes and Security View E are for the newer version Sata HD model. The MPEG version DVR has been replaced by the H.264 model DVR. I would suggest getting an H.264 model AVC 791 DVR. -
Any brand will do. There are plain jane hard drives built for desktops, and then there are hard drives that are built better for the 24/7 use of DVRs. You should not need to do anything. Tear open package, and bolt it in, and hook up the cables.

Your power company gave you a spike, or you had lighting near by, or you have improplery wired electrical system. You just need to replace the hard drive, and contact the hard drive manufacture for warranty, or go back to the place where you bought the DVR if it is under warranty. After you put the new hard drive in you should be good to go!

What kind of DVR is it? Is it possible the screen says "requested URL not on server"? If yes then it is a sign that you need to change your active x settings. Tools > internet options > security tab > Custome settings > download unsigned active x controls (change to prompt). You may have to get out of your browser, and go back in to a browser, and try to connect with the DVR. Did that work?
