B-connector - Silicone filled
scorpion replied to highspeedphysics's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hey! You found my long lost bag of beanies! Would you be kind enough to send them back to me? This is my favorit connector! Speaker wire, alarm wire, 12 volt wire, telephone wiring (and voip), PTZ wiring, and card access wiring. You do not have to strip off the ends of the wires to make a connection as the beanie will pierce the insulation of both wires to make a connection. I prefer a mechanical connection so I will strip, and twist my wires, then slide them in to the beanies. -
That is a good question. As they are straight pass through devices I would have to agree with you. I truely do not know but I would believe that they are interchangable. I could see where a company that dealt with both products would label them that way to make it easier to quickly find what you are looking for. I would wonder if they are the same part number if you compared them.

Monitor Giving Off Interference

I love finding those "nuggets" of information! It is amazing how you can be at a loss on a project then all of a sudden one sentence can pull back the dark clouds, and let the sunshine in! I do not suggest anyone buy those testers the XPTT, and the XPTR as they are extremely expensive. Great for the Automation full timer, but not for a one up use. -
Boy Have I been quilty of this in the past!! I am glad this information can be a resource to just about any CCTV project that you can think of. I posted this info here as a back up as well.... http://scorpiontheater.com/links.aspx

Fire! Fire! Fire everywhere!! Two arsonist arrested!
scorpion replied to scorpion's topic in Test Bench
No! You are absolutly right!!! The firefighters thought they would finally get some down time today, and get to relax (compared to the hustle, and bustle of running from house to house, and flare up, to flare upl I think a lot of people in Cocoa who kind of "blew off the fires in Palm Bay" have now see the flames, and seen the smoke, and the little alarm in the back of your head starts SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF IT'S LUNG! The local Fire Fighters cannot take anymore. They have been getting relief from the Miami, Jacksonville, and the Tampa Fire Depts! Even the News crews realize where the "story" is. They were pulling up stakes as fast as they could to get to Cocoa. Question is: where is the next tinder box going to ignite? The woods here in Palm Bay will actually benefit from the fire for many reasons. The normal "Mother Nature Spring Cleaning", and there have been some sever issues of all of the fallen trees from the hurricanes from a few years back. -
How many cameras, and what kind of cameras? What kind of DVR? Are you talking about entry points (doors, and windows)? Are you watching job performance issues? Is there a cash counting office? Why did this customer call you? What are they "afraid" of most that they require video surveillance? If there is a theft, how much money (or products) will they lose?
-
What do I personally use, or what do I set up for my customers? My customers are an Entry Level Based Clientle. They may not be able to afford a 500 GB Hard Drive. Most Times they want an 80GB HD based on price. I would really recommend a 250GB hard drive. What would I select? That is a hard one. I have to base it on each individual customer's needs. Do they need long term savings of video? Do they need to see good details (based on an entry level DVR). Will they look at the video on some kind of schedule, or when there is only a problem, or God forbid only after a tragedy such as stolen money, or product? I cannot answer your question, but the DVRs are set for CIF for the most part, and set at BEST. I really do not know! I am interested in this question. I ordered an a Nubix 4BC and I will try that out between some projects. This will be really interesting. My Customers never have asked about this, so I am caught off guard on this one.

Do not forget a generator as they turn off power during fires so that dropped wires to not spark another blaze, and so the Fire Dept can work in saftey. Electrified house with streaming water is not too good of an idea! -

AVTech 785 with 2 hdd - some critical questions
scorpion replied to jayzap's topic in Digital Video Recorders
HDD in the search menu is a question: which hard drive are you choosing? If you want to see video on both hard drives you would just go back in to the menu, and choose the opposite HDD to view the next one. Are you being "blocked" from seeing one of your hard drives? Do you use the time search? -
I cannot remember off of the top of my head. That should be the lowest setting. 12 is a PAL setting. Is this correct? I think you should change it to 100 if you want less of a "snapshot" look to your video. If you need to have a long "storage" time then pick a number in the middle range. If will give you less snapshots, and not fill up the hard drive as much. I think you are recording in CIF mode? Is this correct? The highest number for Frame Recording is 25. Would you prefer to use Motion Detection instead of recording 24/7?

Fire! Fire! Fire everywhere!! Two arsonist arrested!
scorpion replied to scorpion's topic in Test Bench
The fire is to our south, and we are fine, and good to go so far. If the wind comes from the south then there might be in issue with floating sparks. These fires were set by an arsonist, or a group of people. We are fine, but then again if the arsonist lights one in our area then we could have issues as well. We are over 70 to 75 house burnt down at this point. Florida Today Local Newspaper http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=NEWS01 Channel 2 News http://www.wesh.com/news/16236548/detail.html Channel 6 News http://www.local6.com/news/index.html Channel 9 News http://www.wftv.com/news/index.html Not to make light (groan) of the situation, but it is amazing how video crews can take a simple little flame "scene", and make it look like a raging inferno from one coast of Florida to the other coast. Then again I see video that is not "alarming" on national news, and I know this area very well, and I am thinking "Oh my goodness" as it is worse then what a chopper can show. -

See if there is an X10 Guru near you who can help you with a test. This may not work, but then again who knows? X10 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X10_%28industry_standard%29 Plug In http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/xppf.pdf Wire In http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/xpf.pdf Identifying and Troubleshooting Powerline Noise and Control Problems http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Identifying_and_Troubleshooting_Powerline_Noise_and_Control_Problems Protocal, and Interface PDF http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/technote.pdf Troubleshooting X10 Camera Switching http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_Camera_Switching ____________________________________________________________ For those that are not familiar with these devices: X10 is an old technology that has been surpassed by new technology. X10 is used to switch on lights, and devices remotely. If you have a light that you wish to turn off from the comfort of your bed at night then install a light module on the light, and put a controller by your bedside. The controller sends "signals" through you house wiring to the module telling it to turn on, or off. There are things that you have to know. There are two "branches" of 120 power in a USA house. You have to put a device so that the signal "transmits" from one side to the other side. If you did not then you may have a controller on one "branch", and a module on the other "branch" and the contoller will not "talk" to the module to tell it what to do! -
