The DVR does not transmit at 10Mbit/s over the internet. You will only receive your video remotely in the Kbit range. What part of Auto Negotiation are you having problems with? Today a number of technologies, such as 10BaseT, 100BaseTX, and 1000BaseT, use the same RJ-45 connector, creating the potential for connecting electrically incompatible components together and causing network disruption. In addition, with the advent of Gigabit Ethernet over copper, three-speed devices now support 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps operation. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE developed a method known as auto-negotiation to eliminate the possibility of dissimilar technologies interfering with each other. Gigabit transceivers at the physical layer (PHY) of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model use auto-negotiation to advertise the following modes of operation: 1000BaseT in full or half duplex, 100BaseTX in full or half duplex, and 10BaseT in full or half duplex. Although auto-negotiation can be disabled for 100BaseTX or 10BaseT connectivity, it is always required for normal 1000BaseT operation. Auto-negotiation enables an easy upgrade path to gigabit speeds by future proofing the server network connectivity with a three-speed network interface card (NIC) or LAN on motherboard (LOM). A server connected to a Fast Ethernet switch or hub can easily be upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet by connecting the NIC to a Gigabit Ethernet switch. If both the NIC and the switch are set to auto-negotiate, the interface will be automatically configured to run at 1000 Mbps. The auto-negotiation algorithm (known as NWay) allows two devices at either end of a 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1000 Mbps link to advertise and negotiate the link operational mode—such as the speed of the link and the duplex configuration of half or full duplex—to the highest common denominator. In addition, for 1000BaseT, NWay determines the master-slave interlock between the PHYs at the ends of the link. This mode is necessary to establish the source of the timing control of each PHY. NWay is an enhancement of the 10BaseT link integrity test (LIT) signaling method and provides backward compatibility with link integrity. Auto-negotiation is defined in Clause 28 of the 1998 edition of the IEEE Standard (Std) 802.3.

Cameras With 4P4C Connectors
scorpion replied to Wolverine's topic in General Access Control Discussion
can you open the cameras to see the color code of the wiring? You can cut off the 4P4C connector, and crimp on a bnc and use butt connectors for the power. Now? Is it AC, or DC?? What product is the system?? -
True True! I think CCTV is becoming the same way.

I am here! I do not have any experience with high def cams so I will just sit here in the background, and learn!

Wow! I read this thread, and I cannot tell you how many jobs popped in to my mind! I have seemed to run the whole gamut of all of the above. I give a best, better, pro kind of quote, and then I treat everything else as line item. I know "about" how long a job should take, and then I will throw in some extra hours for free. When the job runs over for some unexpected reason, then the customer does not have to pay more up to a point. If they start redoing the site survey all over again thats fine. When we go over that magic line the hourly rate kicks back in!! I love the combo quote because it saves the customer money, and it forces a customer to make up their mind fast if they start making changes. If something really important comes up, then I will eat a little labor to get things worked out, as I am not going to force someone in to a situation where it will not work correctly, or it may ruin my reputation. It is amazing when I have people come to the shop, and I show them my back room where the lights are turned off, and when I shut the door, and it is blacked out completely, and then I point to a monitor, and I hand them an upgrade camera for them to point around the room, and then they really "get it". I have upgraded from my cheap asian bullets to better cameras this way! (Yes I know! I sell cheap asian junk, please forgive me)!

CCTV guys are in for a rude awakening! When ever they invent an $80.00 IP camera then most CCTV "mom n pop" shops will close down, (or migrate to another similiar device/system). It is bad enough that people can go to a website, and buy at dealer cost, and lick n stick, and then thumb their noses at us as they saved a "ton of money", or at least until the black hum bars show up, ground loops, loss of video, or lack of transmission over IP, then the CCTV crowd wants these same people to come to them on hands, and knees, begging for a "god" to save them from their misery. My observations are local, and not meant at those on the forum. Those on the forum, are savy, and professional. Come to Melbourne, and let me take you for a tour of every spy shop, CCTV shop that will be closed in a year or two if they do not wake up soon! I can take you in to a spy shop right now that does not have any spy gear on it shelf other then "quick sale", and they have to CCTV equipment. They have an outdated DVR on display, and it is no longer sold by the distributor that they use. There are no displays where you can compare camera types (bullet/box/dome) verses lens type (wide/vari/zoom). This company is hanging in by the hair of its chiny chin chin. It is a real shame! They do not do any commercial, or "high end" installs. They would not know what to do if a casino moved in, and called them for 100 cameras!! I am not joking! This saddens me every time I drive by this place. All I can do is shake my head! I look forward to IT, and Physical Security when they come together with a mutual understanding that enhances each other, and can take each other to a higher ground! Watch out when locksmiths can figure out that they can lick and stick CCTV along with locks, and access!!

It will only get worse!! First: To be a really good IT "guy" you have to hoard all of the information. This is called job security. Second: Supervisors, and Managers do not understand IT, (or CCTV for that matter), and they automatically delegate IT stuff to the IT guy. This is great for job security as well. Third: Supervisors, and Managers know that there are standards, and that there are certifications. As long as IT people have the certifications then that is the end of discussion. There is no testing to see if the IT people meet the standard of the certification. Fourth: If the IT section can take over Physical Security then this will enhance said job security. This will also add to the IT budget. Will PHY SEC suffer dollar loss if the money is transferred to IT projects from PS projects?? Fifth: What will happen to the "traditonal Physical Security" if it migrates to one "office" with IT? _____________________________________________________________ IT guys are in for a rude awakening!! You do not need to know piston travel distance verses cylinder size verses compression ratio to know how to drive a car. IT guys have to know a lot of "things", and it changes quickly, and rapidly. Even "old world" IT guys get left in the dirt, as each "generation" of product is issued, or a standard is updated, or a new standard is added. There is a day coming real soon where IT guys will go the way of elevator operators, switchboard (phone) operators, gas pump attendants with a pump key! (Did I just age myself)??? IT will become plug, and play, and simple to understand, and a system can be reconfigured via VNC from some large conglomerate security company. In house IT offices will be gone!! Yes there will always be an IT guy, but in the future he will be ranked on the chart next to the janitor staff! Do you want to challenge that thought? Help Desk: Skilled, highly trained, certified, and lots of "OJT", and an understanding of various programs, and program languages. NOT ANYMORE!! $8.00 AN HOUR, AND YOU DO NOT EVEN NEED A COLLEGE DEGREE!! Am I wrong??
-
Well said from everyone!! It guys will only do a lick, and stick system!! You are right there is no way they are going to learn how to fish, and get sweaty up in a false ceiling!! Every system that they install will be the "everything in a box" solution from some website, and it will automatocally come with wide angle cameras, and some IT guy's butt is going to be in a sling when they cannot get the facial recognition after an event!! They will come to this forum about: ground loop problems power problems lens failures cat 5 video install problems Hey anybody can install cat 5 right??? Hell then an IT guy can run cameras!!

Interference on cheap cctv cable
scorpion replied to ronbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If the camera is mounted to a brick wall then that rules out ground loop issues. From the camera to the groove where you added pebble dash from here where does it go? Can you solder the rca style wire to a proper RG 59 from that point back to your dvr? -
I agree that there is a problem. AVTech is the manufacture, and they sell to distributors, and resellars. Where are the distributor's tech support systems? Where are the resellar's tech support systems? Anyone that says that they cannot afford tech support is full of it, and I can prove it!! I know of a website that has the majority of the AVTech manuals, and they have them in various languages. There are pdfs on how to crimp on connectors, or to compress connectors on to cables. There are pictures of the products. There are other distributors model numbers for cross comparison. There is a discription of each model type of the 4 channel DVRs, and what specs go with that model number. There are links for networking pdfs, and information links. How is that for tech support, and this is not a manufacture supported webpage! Now that is tech support! I realize that there are more companies then I can count that order in bulk to get the discounted wholesale price then turn around and sell them at price points that go against the manufactures price request. There are CCTV dealers that cannot buy at these prices through their distribution chain!! Is this fair to storefront CCTV business? People who circumvent the storefront CCTV business, and buy at or below distributor pricing have become their own tech support, and they are responcible for all tech support that they need. They just do not have a business license that they are supposed to have. When they buy it cheap they are not complaining! They think they won the lottery! These companies sell the products to anyone, and everyone, and there is no tech support what so ever, or it is so limited that it is not worth it. The manufacture should police these website, and businesses that do not perform to a standard. AVTECH did not answer your call? Give me your phone number, and lets have a million people call you on a daily basis. Boeing builds airplanes, and they sell them all over the world. Do they repair every plane owned by every airline? No they do not. Boing's job is to send out bulletines of maintenance issues, and to set repair standards for the airlines to repair their own fleet of aircraft. Everyone has heard of delegation. AVTech will support the volume dealers with tech support, firmware issues, production issues, and corporate logod products. Distributors should delegate to their own tech support. The new guys answer first then delegate up the rank to Sr techs for elevated trouble request. Having one tech who graduated electronics school does not make a tech support team! They should love the product, they should breath the product, and they should live with the product. If your company cannot have a tech support system because of floor space or whatever excuse that you come up with then fine, set up a deal with a sister company where you can delegate your tech support to them, and pay them for their services. Scream at the guy where you bought it from, (unless you ordered it directly from AVTech, and it was shipped to you from taiwan). What is the bill for one DVR from Tawain via Fed Ex??? YIKES! If someone would front me the money on a loan I could buy 200 DVRs in one bulk, and my shipping charge by boat would be $2.00 per device! Front me, and I will put a tech support system that would knock your socks off!!

Is it possible to attach new siamese wire (coax, and power) to the old wire, and pull it through? -
No! You got that wrong! I am old school! I still use 8mm!!!! LOL!

I am still in CCTV denial stage!

I have never measured the loss as I need a solution to a problem, such as a short shelf for a deep DVR, or in hidden applications. http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-1050_connector.html

Need to monitor a group of trees 300' from my house...
scorpion replied to Scruit's topic in System Design
If he is just in a particular spot then I would use this as the detector is powered by a 9 volt battery. You can use up to 4 detectors with this. http://www.optexamerica.com/productpage.aspx?l1=2&l2=&id=38 For perimeter protection then this might do the trick: http://www.optexamerica.com/productpage.aspx?l1=2&l2=&id=9 Yes! I would do the paint ball land mine. If you spot him, and call the police, then he could deny it when they knock on his door. The paint could be UV paint so that it could only be seen with a hand held black light. -
DVR manufacturers moving away from DVR appliances?
scorpion replied to jhonovich's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Nice article!!! I loved this part! You pretty much hit that on the head! -
On camera one. What is shining on the wall? Is that IR from the camera? On camera two. Why is it so dark. Lack of IR? On camera four. Why does it looked so washed out? How come there is no image at 20:14, but there is at 20:27? What are you doing? Flipping lights on, and off?
-
I would have you hook your cameras to a video server, and then set this up to your website. If you hooked up a video server to the DVR monitor out, I do not think you would really get what you want unless you wanted to have the quad picture look.
-
When you were on my website you would have seen your DVR. The DMR16-RT is an AVTech AVC 787. It would have been the 2nd, or 3rd down. http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx This was probably sold by SuperCircuits. They no longer carry these DVRs. Over the internet this DVR is not going to give you D1 resolution with crisp, and clear pictures. It was not built to do so. If internet viewing is of the essence, then I would install the ICRealtime product. Others may install another brand. ___________________________________________________________ What kind of camera do you have? Let's look at the video monitor on site. Go to a channel where you will see someone. To cover their face do you use a fingertip, or do you have to use your hand to cover their face? Let me know! If you use a finger then you have the wrong lens for that application. If you have to use your whole hand, or perhaps even better you have to use both hands to cover the face on the screen, then that is great! What you should be looking for is the 6 O Clock news. You just need a "talking head". Wide angle cameras are the worst for facial recognition. _____________________________________________________________ Forget about what is looks like over the internet. If you are watching over the internet, and something catches your eye then you have the actual video stored on the DVR. When you retrieve that video you will get what you want once you change your camera lenses to give you a better view. The DVR was never intended to go on the internet. As the market took off they slapped on after thought "IP Server" on the tail end of the DVR. Now they can take a stand alone DVR, and provide the internet connection. The technology ran right over this product, and left it like a dinosaur in a tar pit. You are familiar with computers. How would you rate an entry level computer from 2 to 3 years ago?? Yes! Thats what I thought you would say. What cracked open the door for these kind of DVRs were the "average Joe" who makes $20,000, to $25,000. Once they could buy a device that they could afford the market went hot. Small business owners were snapping these up as fast as they could as well. Now that the demand has leveled off, there is now a learning curve. Those that can afford a better system will upgrade. Those that cannot afford anything will keep what they have. I do feel that this company is going to get left in the dirt if they do not create a new product that sets a new standard for the industry in the entry level priced market. This product is so popular that there are manufactures who are producing knock offs of this product. Suv's are the car to have on the open road, and the interstate. Right now the market is demanding Geo Metros. Would you really put your family in a Geo Metro, and go cross country if security is of the essence?? The market wants subcompact cars, and they want it now. You are doomed if you have an SUV, and you want to sell it right now. Is the SUV a better vehicle than a Sub Compact Car? _____________________________________________________________ You cannot just open the DVR, and swap chips around to get what you need. You can do it if you are patient, and can solder with a microscope strapped to your head, and you now how to "sink" heat away from sensitive parts. Then again will it work with out having to reprogram the DVR to work with you mod chip? Are you talking about internet viewing, or live view straight off the monitor plugged in to the video out of the DVR. This DVR puts out a pretty decent video if the site survey was done, and the right cameras were installed. If the video is bad off of the monitor right off the DVR then you have more problems then you think. You will have to bring it in for Warranty Repair. I assume you are not the original owner as you did not know where it came from. Do you know where it was bought, or who installed it? If it is that bad, then you will need to replace it right away if security is of the essence! FPS over the internet is different then the FPS of the DVR. It is a bad server "bolted" on to the DVR. Yes it can show you real live time feed, and identify people if you have the right camera hooked up to it. Recorded history should give you that information as well. I think you have a lense problem that needs to be worked on. The problem is with the built in server. _____________________________________________________________ You can only ask this of people who have the same DVR, or similiar to yours. A $3000.00 DVR is going to have a good internet view. You need to do the opposite. I would have you take it down to the minimum frames per second (or is that IPS). This will keep the DVR from having to "stream" video constantly. Now it only has to deal with snap shots over the internet. I would tell you to keep the DVR, but buy a high end video server, and put it on a camera output of your choice, or on the monitor output. _____________________________________________________________ This should get you a better internet view without breaking the bank. _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ What do you think?
