WHAT?? Give up the bubble gum, and duck tape too!!

This sounds like it is the camera. Your troubles follow the camera when you change ports. It could be: Power Supply Cable Cable length Camera Since we are not there to take a look with our own eyes, then we can only guess. There may be an issue where your camera is not getting enough juice to make it happy. Is it a 12 volt DC, or a 24 volt AC system?? It could be that the cable run is to long, and there is too much of a voltage drop. We also have to take in consideration the size of the wire, as well as the length. You can measure the 12 volt DC at the camera, but there is a trick that you have to do. You have to measure the voltage witht the camera plugged in with the system. This will allow you to test the voltage while under load. What do you measure? How far are the cable runs? What kind of power wires are you using? I had a mysterious problem once before. A customer called saying that their camera worked fine except at 3 O clock in the afternoon. Anyother time the camera worked fine! It would go out for about 2 - 3 hours every day! It turned out that there was a BNC to RCA adapter between the camera, and the premade cable that was wrapped in electrical tape. The sun would beat down on the west side of the house, and the electrical tape would heat up, and the connection would warp, and the video would go out until the sun went down enough where the roof line was not as hot as it was. Are you using a box power supply, or are you using 12 volt wall adapter power supplys?? See GENERAL DISCUSSIONS http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12437

camera freezing and freezing another camera
scorpion replied to cmarin's topic in General Digital Discussion
If I get this right, you say the camera freezes up, and in turn freezes up the VIDEO of the PTZ. When you move said camera to another port, then it freezes up again, and in turn freeze the newer camera as well. If this is right then I would say it is the camera as your troubles seem to follow the camera. Take this "bad" camera out of the system. Put a camera where the "bad" camera was freezing the PTZ. QUESTION? Does the replacement camera freeze up? If it freezes: will it freeze the PTZ like the other camera? If this is the case then there may be a problem there to look at. _________________________________________________________ VIDEO FREEZE: As we are not there to take a look with our own eyes then we can only guess at what might be the problem. The freeze can come from many sources. CAMERA DVR POWER SUPPLY CABLE There may be an issue with the camera getting the voltage in a range that makes it happy. The power supply may not meet the requirements, or the cable may be to long from the power supply to the camera, and there may be too much of a voltage drop, and the camera is very angry at you. You cannot take a multimeter at the camera, and just test the power wire for the 12 volts DC. You have to test it under load, which means while the camera is plugged in, and operating, and then this will give you an accurate measurement. Is there a particular time of day that the camera acts up? I had a customer who called about a camera that would go in to failure at a particular time of day. Very mysterious!! What it turned out to be was that in Florida it gets hot during the miday (alright! Shut up all of you in Texas)! The sun would beat down on the west side of the house where this camera was located. There was a BNC to RCA adapter between the camera, and the premade cable. It was wrapped in electrical tape to keep it water tight. When it would get hot the tape would warp, and the connection would bend, and poof there goes the video. Replacing the BNC adapter, and leaving off the tape since it was located in an eave solved this "mysterious" issue. What is your camera using? 12 volts DC? 24 volts AC? AC handles longer distances then the DC, and you have to take in to consideration wire size with the distance, and the quality of the copper wire. You need to have good copper, not a golden colored fake copper wire. I was not much help was I? It is still broke! SEE POST IN SECURITY CAMERAS http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=78951#78951 -

I am really surprised that you cannot log in with the cross over cable!! Is this intermittent? Have you tried freeze spray / heat gun? This may void your warranty!!!
-
I am not there to take a look, so I truely cannot say. It sounds like you have an individual machine problem. Is it under warranty? Can you take it back?

Not much you can do except turn on a radio, as it must be very quiet in this office if it bother him that much. It needs a lot of air, and therefore that is where your sound is coming from. It could be that it is an older unit, and the bearing on the fan are creating noise. If this was the case then you could buy a fan, and swap it out. You can swap out a fan on a new DVR, but call your tech support about the warranty. You do not want to void a warranty!

I truely do not know what is happening! I do not have any experience with a Fedora Box. I have seen this problem that you are having, and it has been resoved by replacing the router. I do not know if this will work in your case though.

http://www.fastaccess.drivers.bellsouth.net/documents/ITguide_Cayman_3346.pdf Page 73 Pinholes Call ATT Wait 5 hours while on hold Live person finally answers, and wakes you up from your nap! Ask them what call center they are in. There are two places. If you have to call back because a phone battery dies then you know where to call, and who to talk to. Ask for a direct number. They will not give it out, but at least you can ask. Have them walk you through setting up your static IP on port one, and setting up your portfoward 88.
-
Yes! ATT blocks 80. Do you have the static ip address, subnet mask, and gateway entered in to your DVR that was given to you by ATT? The Netopia should have a 4 port if I am not mistaken. Put the DVR on port 1. You should not need to use an external router. If you have other computers, then you can put them on the other ports for DHCP. (or you can plug your router on port 2, and go from there with your other computers. You will need to set up portfoward 88 on the modem. http://www.dslreports.com/faq/bellsouth/3.12_Cayman_Netopia_Info#14024 I do not see the screen shot that I wanted to show you. You need to go in to the advanced tab. That should get you going.

If customer service is of the essence, then you have my vote! Please feel free to send the tool the cheapest method available. I can wait 5 days to receive it. This is not going to bring a project to our knees. The club that we are working on is also doing some construction for new signage, and stucco work. We have been running new wires for the cameras so we have some time to play with. I will have to sing the praises about your company! Thanks! -

I honestly thought that I would never hear from this company again!! _____________________________________________________________ Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2008 09:25:18 -0400 From: cwe4lan@aol.com Subject: Re: ORDER 000406 To: sales@scorpiontheater.com I am sorry, I thought that was what happened when the inventory showed the regular plugs and not the offset were deducted. Ok heres what we'll do: 1) I will replace the tool and plugs 2) The tool and plugs you received just keep them This should get you taken care of. On the Cat.5 this is a round solid/stranded wire. The DEC MMJ Offset was not designed for this cable. I have seen installers get the plugs on by working with the cable and plugs but the connector plug is not Cat5 rated. I will have your order reshipped and be sure it is correct. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Best Regards, Tom Friedmann Cleveland Wire & Electronics Tel: 1-330-241-6020 -

Please give me the information that I need to send it back. RMA number? Do I need to ship it back via UPS using your account number? I do have a request. I need the offset 6P6C for cat 5 (or is that round cable verse flat)? Thank you very much! -

Installer monitor that's worth the money?
scorpion replied to sinbad's topic in General Digital Discussion
I agree with Rory! If you want one for trouble shooting, or camera aiming, then I recommend this one. [edit by mod-store link removed] Let me describe the abuse this has taken!! I have fried the internal 12volt power system!! It will no longer recharge the AA rechargable batteries! I now have to insert regular batteries for operation. I have dropped it from a 6 footer a couple of times. What I like about it is that I can take a bundle of unterminated wires that have a video signal, and I can shove in the center lead in to the bnc input, and press the braid against the ground to get a video signal. I know this sounds strange, but last week I had a 16 channel system that was cut by an employee, and I had to quickly get this system up, and going. I was able to separate the working cameras out of the bundle, and what was left was old cameras that were broken, or they were part of the loop out that went to another area. Once I got "something" going I was able to take my time locating the loop out wires, and what was left were the out of order cameras. If it was not for the monitor I would have been toning wires all day! -
LOL! True, True!

CONGRADULATIONS! DON PARDO, TELL HIM WHAT HE WON! I see alot of people out in the "field" that have not a clue what tip, and ring means, and yet they know how to hook it up a system to the old phone lines. It is amazing the words that we carry to this day when they are obsolete, such as "hit record". I notice on space ship movies that they carry the old sailing words, and traditions of the Navy.

Not so bad if you are a dreamer. I wonder if he allowed the video to be released to evoke sympathy from a potenial pool of jurors? When did that happen 1999?

Integration at it's best!
