I know you are hacking my IP address as I type! Stop it!! LOL!! Welcome to the forum! Looks like we might learn something from you!

I have you down in my "know" list! Anyone else?

I agree whole heartedly!

I could always put the DJ WAP on a cable based internet, and I can use the Telephone internet for the POS stations, but then again does this protect me from the evil one with a sniffer? No, it does not, so now I am back to entry level priced ideas. What product did you have in mind that provides "layer 3 switch" with VLAN capability? Give me the product sequence from the main office with two CATs to the Club Office, and provide a parts list if you would be so kind. What has me confused is having one router with two SSIDs. Is this not on the same LAN giving one access to the other, and vice versa once they are logged in, or are the ports separated from each other? Thanks in advance. Also thank you for the "devils advocate".

I wonder if anyone has figured out what the tip, and ring means on telephone equipment? I wait for some posts, then I will give the answer.

The sound track to your post is from Styx! Too much time on my hands? You might be right! LOL! This thread does not have much to do with CCTV, but then again as everything migrates to IP, I am sure the new members would like to be up to speed on the lingo, the specs, and the DIY of IP. I am glad goo gul does not charge by the search!!

How do you feed power to your cameras?
scorpion replied to magicsid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I was curious, what does spur down to a 12v transformer mean? -
Question: What is the value of the item/items that you are protecting? If you have a million dollars in cash then they may take the safe also. Million dollars.....hmmmmm.....What was your address again?? LOL! Depending on the cost of the item/items then that is what I would think about while trying to secure it. I am not going to use a $1000.00 safe to protect a DVR to protect a candy aisle if you know what I mean.

I would not recommend that camera angle if it is the only camera facing this area. It is a good angle if someone were to check both doors of two vehicles to see if they were unlocked, and you can see what items they take. To make this a good system, then have another camera with a zoom lens and point it in the direction of the vehicles. You can mount this by your front door. The second camera will give you facial identity when they step in to this second camera "zone". This second camera will not tell you a story like a wide angle lens, but then again a wide angle lens can give you details at a distance. I was not refering to your knee, (whew! I did not know that was your knee)! For the driveway cam that simulates the picture from above, then I would say use a varifocal camera that can be controlled by Pelco D protocol, and you can change the lens selection as your security needs change. Say you want to see if your children are wearing their seat belts before they start the vehicle. Change the settings, and you have your answer. I cannot predict what needs you have down the road, but you can see what I mean by making your system flexible. It may cost you more up front, but you will save by not having to buy a new camera everytime a new situation comes up.

How do you feed power to your cameras?
scorpion replied to magicsid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Question one: Are you an Electrician? Two: Are you saying that you do not have an electrical socket where you have the DVR? Three: Is this why you need to run a spur? Are you adding an electrical socket? Four: Are you putting a power supply in the attic where it can catch on fire, then set your insulation on fire, then set the whole attic on fire, then destroy the home? Five: Since an attic is an uncontrolled environment, would it not be better to put the power supply in the house where it can have a controlled environment? _________________________________________________________ You will want to run a wire from each camera back to the transformer. This will make it easier to troubleshoot later down the road as you can disconnect one troublesome camera, or you can disconnect all of them. If you run a wire to the first camera, then run from there to the next camera, then you will have problems trying to disconnect the power wires so that you can trouble shoot. We call this a "home run" where all the wires come back. -
Are you interested in hair color, or a bald spot? I am sorry! I could not resist! The point I would like to make is that you cannot see a face. That would be a 3.8, lens from that photo.

I have never heard of the term shotgun cable, but I will make a mental note of it. Are you running new wire, or is this existing wiring? For the DIY you can take one of these and cut off the end. Attach an inline fuse to the transformer wiring, and then attach it to you cable. Take the "pigtail" that you cut off, and connect it at your camera end of your cable. http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-12400R_power_supply.html This is for one to four cameras. If you are doing more cameras then you will want to get a power box. Just imagine 8 of those wall warts! You will need two power strips for all of those wall warts, and your DVR, and your monitor. Note on power strips, and wall wart transformers: Get the power strips with the sockets that sit side saddle so that the wall wart can sit "sideways" on the strip. The more expensive power strips will give you spaced out sockets to fit transformers better! If you are an installer then these are nice to have in your work van! http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-PLUG21_power_plug.html If you are mixing 24 volt AC cameras, and 12 volt DC cameras then this is a nice product to have in your work van! http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-A2D_power_supply.html PLEASE use one of these in a 4 channel version: http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-PS4DC_power_supply.html _____________________________________________________________ Cable connectors: Click Here! Scroll down till you see a picture of connectors. There are two PDFs that will show you how to install the two different types of the three types of connectors. Click on CRIMP ON, or COMPRESSION. The twist on is self explanatory. On the upper right hand corner of your floorplan: Do not use wide angle lenses. I would use 6mm lenses. The other cameras can use wide angle cameras. You did not tell us in what area the cameras are watching. For example the driveway cam: Is it watching the driveway up close, or are you watching the entrance way where the gutter is? Big difference in lense selection, and IR selection for night time use.

What MFR Hard Drive do you have Installed?
scorpion replied to magicsid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
IDE Yes. Enterprise Drives are SATA drives. For those that would like to learn more read this thread. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8928 and here: http://www.storagereview.com/guide2000/ref/hdd/hist.html -
You can get a 2.0.1.1 firmware here: http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx This is a Do It Yourself Information Page. If you are not technical to perform this, then perhaps you may want someone to do it for you in case some issue pops up, and you need to make corrective actions. I do not forsee anything happening, but some untrained individuals may have difficultly due to inexperience.

What MFR Hard Drive do you have Installed?
scorpion replied to magicsid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
When it comes to hard drives, then I would say what kind of DVR, or what brand of DVR? I use a lot of the AVTechs because the majority of my customers earn in the range of $10,000 to $20,000 a year. Based on my customers I am selling entry level DVRs. I use what ever the distributor provides when I order the DVR with the hard drive installed as there may be a day down the road when the hard drive fails, and for some unforseen reason it may destroy the DVR. Since the distributor provided the hard drive, and sold the DVR as a system then it is their warranty that will fix the situation. If I have a really budget clientele then I can save some money by buying the DVR without the hard drive, and then I can install my own Western Digital Caviar Hard Drive. I am not saying it is thee best hard drive. I am saying that I have a local source 5 minutes from my shop that gives me a really good price as they buy in large bulks. If the WD fails, and should it injure the DVR, then what would I do? Would the hard drive "crash" void my DVR warranty?? HHMMM?? Food for thought! ICrealtime DVRs: Here again! I go with what they install at the time I order the DVR. There are some distributors where I can dictate what kind of hard drive I wish from the selection that they provide, and that would dictate the environment the DVR is going in to, or the budget of the DVR that the customer is willing to pay. What do you think? -
I wonder if Vista has something to do with them dropping that line?
-
As I am a retailer, and not a wholesaler you might want to try another source as there are other companies that buy in large bulks, and I cannot compete with their pricing. If tech support is of the essence then I will be more than glad to be of assistance. I would recommend a Geo Card. There are other cards out there. I used to use a distributor that carried Digi flower cards rebranded as EclipseCCTV, but they no longer carry those cards. I am crying in my milk!! What kind of camera are you going to use, and describe the environment that the camera is going to be installed? Residential, Commercial, Goverment? Day time use only, or night time use only, or both day, and night use? Do you want an excellant quality picture where you can count every leaf on a tree in the video where is gives you a series of snapshots, or do you want less quality, but more of a fluid motion like you are watching a movie?? I will not ask you what computer you are going to put it in as you should be selecting the computer after you select the DVR card, after you have selected the cameras. I will PM you, and this will allow you to PM me.

What kind of cables are they? RG 59??

If you write your own then you can get some ideas here http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9599 and in the articles section: http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_articles.php Here are more links: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12156 What do you think?
-
You are right it could be anything. It could be the individual connector on the cable. I ruled this out when you said that you connected another camera to channel one. How long is the coax? Unless both cameras have bad bnc connectors, or you have bad cables. I suspect the DVR is giving you issues for some reason.

When watching that video I get a big kick out of how long the on coming buses are. The must be about 200 feet!!!! This is a good video to explain the wide angle distortion about objects at a distance will appear farther away!!
